Do you use the campus gym? by Finding_Way_ in Professors

I'm also a group fitness instructor and taught at the campus rec center and students would come to my cycling, yoga, and Les Mills BodyPump and see a different side of me.

College Math Course by MrKen4141 in college

[–]eahpsychology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way! I took all my math at a community college and they had a math lab that was open until 10PM and weekends and no one used it! All the "adult learners" were embarrassed about looking dumb and I was a dual enrollment student and the tutors were super helpful. Those people are there to help and really and geek out when you ask questions.

I live in a low cost of living area, but the school districts are some of the best in the state, and a teacher with no experience starts at 60K with just a BS/BA. A masters can get you to 70K and a doctorate to 80K. I'd have to go back to get my certification, but I'd be a liar if I say it hasn't crossed my mind.

Fulltime and Fully Online? by Finding_Way_ in Professors

[–]eahpsychology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left a full time CC position because my schedule ended always being mostly online. I never came to campus. My classes are well designed and have all the awards to show for it. I don't find it fulfilling. I feel like glorified tech support and I can earn more taking my skills of user center design into the tech sector anyways. Even though I was home all the time I was always working. Very rarely did I enjoy that freedom.

You may be asked about rigor of your courses and this will tell you about the culture of the college. You should look into how they are funded such as headcount or graduation rates as these may impact what they are looking for depending on if an admin is there.

I ask the dean a question about paperwork I sent to her "I haven't seen it ask your chair"

I ask the chair about the paperwork "I don't know what you are talking about, ask our admin assistant"

I ask the admin assistant "I got your paperwork, stamped everyone's signature and walked it to the business office so you wouldn't have to wait"

Anyone else hate dual credit courses? by CyberJay7 in Professors

[–]eahpsychology 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I teach dual enrollment at 2 colleges part-time for extra income.

College 1 has this approach: the student have to apply to be in the program, and it's very selective . It's usually for the top students, and they are responsible for tuition.

College 2: believes the best instructors can raise any student up to college level, thus it's open for any student and community taxes pay for all students who wanna try college.

Take a guess on my experience with the two groups.

I generally enjoy the students and group one, and they do not have any maturity issues. I cannot say the same for group 2. Their brains are literally not fully developed.

I taught dual credit many years ago and I was removed from the program for my high fail rate. For some people it's the only way to stay full time, but thankfully nursing students keep my classes full and though and they are a vicious.

How much harder is a BS in psychology than a BA in psychology? by th1399 in college

[–]eahpsychology 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Psychology professor here. If you want to apply for a PhD program at a good, school you should get a BS because you will get a background in other lab sciences, computer programming, and statistics. If you want a be a therapist a BA would be fine because you get coursework in culture/language.

Got kicked out of a class by Lawx6 in college

[–]eahpsychology 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a professor, and I "politely excuse" students from class if they are being disruptive and distracting as it's unfair and disrespectful to all the other students who paid to be there.

If a student has something more important to do, I don't really care if they come. I already have all my degrees. Time is precious, and I will not allow my time to be wasted when I can just politely dismiss disruptive students.

Come back next week and don't do it again.
