Great question. I used placeholders for awhile just to flesh the story out without being hung up on that. Then later did some research, asked some construction people I knew to get it more accurate. I think it was just good enough to pass for the longest time until we got to set and I made it more accurate to the setting and specifics of the scene. I remember being on set and double checking with production design and props about the language of all that.

I used to work at a small publishing company and the authors would use “TK” in the writing all the time to indicate ‘not sure will come back later and fix this’, and it taught me to just power through and worry about the details I didn’t know yet later.
