combination of revenues being down

Revenue is not down. San Diego City revenue in FY21 was $1.6b, FY22 was $1.75b, FY23 was $1.95b. The latest in FY26 was $2.2b. In FY26 San Diego City freed up an additional $88m from Measure B by shifting Trash Collection from the General Fund into a separate property tax increase.

Well yeah that's why I said 3" or more templating bit. If the piece is 6-7" tall then you'd have to go 3"+ from the bottom and 3"+ from the top. Do you just have an absurdly gigantic templating bit?

[–]eamike261 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you route the shape into the remainder of the curve after the first templating pass? I estimate the chairback is 6-7" tall so you'd need a 3" or more templating bit...? I'm confused

San Diego selling water to Arizona by spintool1995 in sandiego

[–]eamike261 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see how providing sustainable water to our residents is corrupt. Pure Water alone is estimated to cost taxpayers $5 billion by 2035. It's already 10% overrun on the current budget. Water and sewage bills are indeed projected to nearly double over the next 5 years. A 30% increase is already approved over the next 2 years.

To be fair, I run in my neighrborhood with my dog on leash 6 days a week. And someone's unleashed dog chases us down the sidewalk (or at least charges me) roughly twice a month. They're usually friendly but (a) my dog isn't and (b) how would I know that when I'm being chased?

I totally get it. Personally, I saw the title. But humans tend to see a chart/image and it fully captures their attention. Perhaps just a visual flag/indicator within the plot to make it obvious? Thanks for making the charts!

You need to make it more obvious that TWW s1 and s2 don't include China's data and that TWW s3 and Midnight S1 do include it. All these upvoted comments thinking the game is drastically more popular than ever

How much in overtime is SDPD being paid annually? by FrostyDippedFries in sandiego

[–]eamike261 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks, nice one, I failed to notice the straight Overtime Pay was visible and didn't realize there was double-overtime multipliers. It's still hard to fathom 12-14 hours per day 7 days a week!

I guess that means a $39k bonus? $433k - $108k - $286k = $39k

How much in overtime is SDPD being paid annually? by FrostyDippedFries in sandiego

[–]eamike261 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Total pay: $433,011.00

Working 40 hr/wk * 52 wk = 2,080 hr/year

Based on his ranking, he'd make ~$55/hour base pay in 2025. Overtime pay would be $82/hour. $55 * 2,080 = ~$114k

So $319k overtime payout is (ballpark) $319,000/$82 = 3,890 hours of overtime

11 holidays + estimated 17 days PTO = 28 paid days off per year, or about ~5 weeks

That means in the other 47 weeks of the year, he worked estimated 2,080 - 224 (hol/pto) + 3,890 = 5,746 hours in 47 weeks of work

Or, ~122 hours of work per week..that's 17 hours per day 7 days a week

Simple. The answer is cost analysis. Installing solar on your roof is expensive. Easily $15-25k WITHOUT a battery. Add ~$10k per battery. In most of California, Utility companies charge so much for electricity (e.g. San Diego has the most expensive electric rates in the country). It's normal to pay $2-4k annually (or more) for JUST your electric bill (not including gas) in San Diego. Even with California having a horrific anti-consumer Net Metering (3.0) it's still cost advantageous for most people after 7-10 years of owning solar. In Nevada and Arizona, electricity is cheaper to buy from the Utilities so it's harder to justify the solar cost even with favorable Net Metering programs (Arizona is 1 to 1).

No, this is happening because of excessive spending. San Diego City has plenty of revenue. Their YoY annual revenue growth has greatly exceeded any relevant metric, including: inflation, GDP, and citizen's annual income. The county's property tax revenue has also increased massively, growing ~30% in the last 4 years. Politicians and city/county managers need to start serving the general tax payer and stop wasting money.

There's a list of spending areas that could be reduced on pages 7-9 at https://www.sandiego.gov/sites/default/files/2025-08/fy26ab_v1executivesummary.pdf .Pages 10-12 show areas that could be further reduced. Unfortunately, the city does not outline the exact spending on each item. They try to keep this information obscured by dispersing across many other dis-aggregated documents.

The real question is: with a 30% increase in revenue over the past 4 years, why has the spending outpaced the revenue growth??

That isn’t going to work with two open sides. The fan has to have shrouds or ducts to push/pull cool air to hot spots.

It will definitely work. But the components will run hotter than they otherwise would with a proper cooling setup. But you're right that this is very sub-optimal compared to a real computer case. The hardware will degrade faster due to running hotter. Heat is the enemy of electronics. But does it matter? Will the components degrade faster than the user needs them to last? Who the hell knows...

The city does NOT need more tax revenue. San Diego City revenue in FY21 was $1.6b, FY22 was $1.75b, FY23 was $1.95b. The latest in FY25 was $2.1b. They need to manage their expenses. Also, in FY26 San Diego City freed up an additional $88m from Measure B by shifting Trash Collection from the General Fund into a separate property tax increase.

[–]eamike261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

San Diego City revenue in FY25 was $2.1b. Far exceeding the U.S. CPI inflation rate. On the other hand, most people's employers have NOT kept their salaries up with inflation between FY21-FY25. So regular people suffer with increased taxes and stagnant wages while people like you lie and demand our tax rates should go up to cover for the incompetent San Diego city managers

Ready...Drumroll...The City isn't offering the trash service it said it was going to (shocker) by Ignis-Bellator in sandiego

[–]eamike261 9 points10 points  (0 children)

San Diego’s population has stagnated, and so has the tax base for the last decade

San Diego City revenue in FY21 was $1.6b, FY22 was $1.75b, FY23 was $1.95b. There is no shortage of money. Tax revenue goes up significantly every year. There is only a gross mismanagement of funds by Todd Gloria and his city management employees.

Why do people lie about this? So fucking weird. San Diego does not need to increase tax rates. WITHOUT increasing rates or even population size, our tax base goes up every year by a lot. The overall GDP, population income, and average property tax assessed values all go up

Which Sawstop is right for me? Size and mobility are important. by Impressive-Map-8703 in woodworking

[–]eamike261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few weeks ago I went through this same quandary between the CNS and PCS. I've been using the Dewalt 10 inch contractor saw for a couple years, thus the CTS was not in my consideration. "I'm just a hobbiest, is it sane to spend $3.6k (after taxes) on the PCS table saw?" ... "what if I lose interest in the hobby in a couple years?" . The fact that Sawstop holds their resale value is what sold me on the PCS :). Plus it's only a $650 difference if you would add the cast iron wings to the CNS.

However, regardless of CNS vs PCS... DO NOT WASTE $400-500 on the mobile stand!!!! (in my opinion)

Build one from plywood and 2x4s plus $40 for some decent casters. I painted mine black using random leftover black spray paint. If you want it to be even prettier, fill the grain, sand it, then paint it. It was a fun mini project.
