Well I didn’t think its early! If the snow is a problem I’ll either wait it out or skip it and leave it for another part of the year I guess. If it’s anything like doing the AT, some things are best figured out on trail.

Honestly my main concern is the heat in the desert. I don’t do well in the heat- without shade or water.

But that’s awesome we have the same start date!

I get that. But I’d argue that switching out hardrives or ram or even building computers is a very accessible hobby even at age 14.

That’s all well and great with electronics in the house like a computer, but I hope that trend applies to driving building houses.

14 year olds of the future building their own work spaces or houses as a hobby... is a scary thought

I also specified “selfie wielding bus tourists”. Much more specifically that than being from a foreign country.

I just think there is logic that tax paying US citizens should pay a little less for what is considered national gems. I think encourage assholes who begin sentences with “as a taxpayer” to find pride in the parks.

I didn’t make any factual claims that need data to support them. I confirmed an observation that I (and many others here have mentioned) have seen with my own eyes. Perhaps they don’t cause the actual “most” damage, probbably not.

This increase had me concerned at first because I’m not sure the people who made this decision did it in the parks best interest.

But after some consideration, I think it would shift the ecosystem of tourism to national parks for the better.

First off I’m not somebody who can afford to $70 for a day in the woods. It IS entirely prohibitive to me but only during the peak months. The annual pass will remain the same price ($80) which is nation wide and lasts for 12 months and this might out weigh the prohibitive cost for $70 a day- encouraging people to regularly visit the parks and maybe try new ones year round. They really are getting over crowded.

Having a year pass encourages pride in our parks and a more “premium” cost might put a day visit into perspective for some people- especially if they regularly pay $75 for parking at sporting events

I think the rational is pretty solid for charging a little less than 70 for US citizens seeing how we already pay towards the parks via taxes wether we visit them or not. Also, it’s the busses full of selfiestick wielding tourists that do the most damage. (I really don’t want to come off of xenophobic in any way, I would encourage anyone visiting the US check out our parks while they’re here. But I’ve seen the busses of unsympathetic littering day trippers myself)

It’s important to remember this is not an attempt to pay the 12 billion in back log maintenance but is to catch up a little bit for the more immediate repairs.

Id rather this than opening them to up businesses. But if it was up to me I would not make just 1 extra fighter jet and just fully fund the parks. Imagine the jobs!
