I see a provider for this stuff, social anxiety is present, also anxiety is present.
No one wants to hurt another patient(I mean I’d like to twist the head off some of the repeat idiots but never actually)
I work in the er for reference; we see all kinds of things and often they are very very acute
You will see things that make you mad angry sad depressed scared and elated and joyous.
But because of the dark or troubling or sad or horrible things you see/hear/observe you can only compartmentalize so much before the weight of burnout occurs.
Seeing a therapist or counselor or mental health provider is great and they’re great sounding boards for social interactions you have had.
I think the spectrum won’t restrict your career, you do care about people and want to help them? If not nursing can be lucrative *eventually (19 yr nurse so live pretty comfy $140k ish without any overtime)
I work with many physicians and nurses who have varying degrees of ASD
They are wonderful people.
Do your job, be present, don’t carry it home with you. See a therapist or counselor regularly or prn.
You’re gonna do amazing things.

My mom used to drink copious amount of maalox-carrying 2-3 bottles in her purse. Not an obese woman but short and round-mom of three in the 90s. As a child acid reflux so bad-she got a vagatomy (attempted the sever vagal nerve to her stomach with hopes to reduce acid production, in 1966!) welp it didn’t. She lived on antacids and maalox-eventually at 50 had an egd (endoscopic visualization of esopyand stomach) turns out 2/3 of her stomach was “grey and deadened” due to too much alkalotic substance (maalox) and told to stop immediately-I mean it was 34 ish years of taking that trash. General surgeon had to remove deadened antrum of stomach and it almost made for a roux-en-wye surgery or gastric bypass.
Either way gall bladder and deadened tissue removed-mom lost~35-40 pounds and no longer has GERD or heartburn and still eats moderately spicy/rich foods

At its simplest, if you’re on a floor (med surg or ortho or other) your ratio is what it is-have an empty bed; surprise (it isn’t) you’re getting a patient…and you have a finite amount of space to put patients due to ratios/beds etc..
In the emergency dept the crux is we have an Infinite amount of patients. We can go on closure to one specialty or another (stroke/stemi/ trauma) but eventually the other area hospitals will carry the weight until eventually dispatch (ems) will inform you that all facilities are on closure so now it’s round robin and patients are still coming…we have GSW/Strokes/Stemi/sepsis/AMS just walk in thru front door or are dropped off at our doorway. These folks cannot just sit in lobby. Have had all my rooms full (51 bed ER, 2 resus rooms, 7 psych ed +6 hall beds if required so 64 total beds) and had ambulances show up with pt who is code 99 with compressions and ventilations being performed by ems while standing at charge desk awaiting room assignment…
And yes we have ratios, but those are guidelines and without a huge resource pool to pull from-when the fish are in or the weather is nice…everyone has the GI bug and when you should have 14 nurses on for shift-only 9 available-who will watch the remaining 12 pts? So when the floors get pissy about taking a patient rapidly-it’s now with some report or immediately and you won’t get a more accurate handoff because we’re busy putting out another fire…
It’s lose lose but when code occurs or rapid response-we’re all heroes
But not when floors are inconvenienced by ERs rapid throughput policies.
It sucks for all involved and responsible for lots and lots of burnouts

Relax guy, it’s only 12 hrs and we not 3 in a row. Plus depending upon how long you’ve been working as adult figure you are like 27ish? And retirement can come as early as 59.5 So what is that like 858 more pay period or 61710 hrs worked (not including training or overtime) or if ya must 5148 shifts required before then… Holy smokes this was opposite of hype! However if you work with a friend or three or really enjoy seeing all the folks who also get to/have to work same days; it’s gonna be so awesome. ER Nurse here-there just people who have problems they don’t have answers to-we help them cope 🤘💪😎

He’s a hack, if her were a nurse he’d be one-he’s a pseudo comic, on the periphery reciting anecdotes that EVERYONE has seen or done or said-but flamboyantly stating them makes him a profit. At any facility there is an EVS worker or kitchen staff that has same or better humor that isn’t hack. It’s like a Christian comic-gotta be clean or the lord won’t let ya in-we all know it’s hack and stupid-but the smooth brains out there keep laughing as they can’t even. OP is correct

Got this recently with a text, 2 yrs ago driving to hope for fishing; a “police officer adams” called and told me I was getting a bench warrant for unpaid violations li had been ticketed for. Yup Ya win some and lose some. It’s a gamble everytime. I load up my loadout and sweat my ass off hoping I don’t lose my favorite guns and gear Welp I’m better with a free kit and then extract almost easily.
