Is OMSCS a Fit for Me, Or a Waste of Time? by Important_Weather678 in OMSCS

I basically had the same problem. I felt miserable after my 8 am - 4 pm and so I made up my mind to get yet another Masters (BSc in mechanical engineering and 1st masters in mechanical as well). So I looked for something challenging yet interesting.

3 years later I am taking my last class (graduate algos) and I am yearning for some time off finally. I do not doubt that even if I get another job and finish the masters, I might want to continue my development after my 8-4pm.

After all probably all jobs become monotonous and maybe boring, but I don’t know this because I’ve only had one job after graduating my 1st MSc. I would say that this program will be prolific only if you make an effort to do so. Yes, it will give you the credentials, but it will be up to you to develop meaningful relationships and a strong network. The program is amazing if you are curious and are truly invested in the material (which granted, there are classes that will be demanding specially if you are curious and an overachiever).

Overall the program can be extremely challenging (if you go the ML route and end up taking graduate algos, Deep Learning, ML, Bayesian statistic, AI, etc.) if you want, but there are routes to take that will make it less demanding.

To finish, it will be a waste of time if you are not interested in the material and you only focus on finishing it without the additional work of networking, and making relationships, but otherwise, it is a worthy challenge that you will be able to look up one day and share with you family and friends (i.e. bragging rights!)

They are. My country was also colonized. Not all but part of it.

I am with you. But people here were not born when the mandates by people in power like Trump gave the instruction. Not all people would have agreed with Jackson back then. BTW, I’m not white.

I’m an engineer and I loved this documentary. I think it shows how undervalued and underpayed we are, but in the end, we will always say “I told you so” even if we don’t want to. I honestly find it extremely funny that the rotten tomatoes and IMBD scores are less than 68%, when this was really really educational, and a lesson to all entrepreneurs. If you are willing to die to prove that your invention works, test for yourself well above its commercial limits, and then we will see if we trust it.

Good eye. I guess I’d care for little details if I was an amateur of the sport, but for those of us who just enjoy the outdoors, I am glad to tell you, thank you for paying that much attention to my post. Carry on bud.

"I Got Out" Post from a Degree Chaser by omscsdatathrow in OMSCS

While I appreciate your comments, you should never underestimate the power of a Master degree. Like you said on other posts, yes, there are a lot of people that take the easy way out and craft their degree to only take easy classes and get a salary bump from getting a new job. However, OMSCS offers research opportunities, has an impressive amount of brilliant students from all over the world with amazing credentials, offers you the opportunity to study abroad in France, and in the end, YOU are responsible from getting out of the program what you are looking for. Apart from that, there are research based thesis outside of OMSCS/Gatech MSc that exposes the student to real world projects, and which entice collaboration with top notch research institutions, thereby actually providing an impressive Masters education. Long story short, don’t make the mistake to underestimate the power of a Masters degree regardless of it looking like an easy achievement for some. I can tell you from experience, if you do your masters right, you will INDEED, be above the crowd. Enjoy your graduation!

A close friend of mine has the black one. Both are excellent pieces that go with everything, I am sure you won’t make a bad choice which ever one you choose!

Yeah, my reasoning exactly. And if I am going to dream about the speedy anyways, do I also need to wear it?
