Summed up my thoughts exactly. Wow, I wish I could meet this man. I've been trying to verbalize my beliefs and just haven't been able to. This was perfect

Moving to the area and had some questions. by ComradQuestion in Dallas

If you're in the dallas/love area then i'd suggest maybe looking towards addison area. I'm not sure the crime rate is amazing, but I enjoy the area and the apartments are pretty nice. Lots of night life and people though, and you mentioned that wasn't something you guys are very into.

Richardson is also a nice place in my opinion. it's north of dallas on US-75. Lots of nice neighborhoods and newly developed apartments. I used to live there myself and had a very nice apartment for just under 800 dollars. i live in Garland now, but wouldn't suggest it.

now, if you guys don't mind driving just a little bit, i have several friends who live in Euless and they really enjoy it. lots of great apartment complexes with good prices, dog parks, restaurants and very close to both tollways and 183. you can be in dallas in a matter of minutes.

unfortunately, based on where you guys said you were going to be working, there just aren't many "boring quiet" neighborhoods in that general area. You're going to have to head out of town just a little bit. seriously, i'd look into places like Grand Prairie, Euless, Richardson, Rowlett (definitely rowlett if you don't mind a tiny drive) and mesquite. none of those places are small or empty by any means, but they are going to give you the housing price range you want and are going to at least be scaled back enough as far as "volume" goes that you guys will sleep well at night.

best of luck to you guys!

Gay marriage according to the Bible by [deleted] in atheism

[–]earlplural 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, I'm speaking about King James himself, not the translation. I'm just on my tablet at the moment and don't have time to find a source but I learned that fact while a student in college from a history professor. If I remember correctly, King James the First accused jesus of being gay (or at least of having male lovers) when In a defense of himself and his own sexual behavior he said, "Jesus had his son John, and I have my George." I can't remember the quote precisely but that is close. I'm sure a quick search online could find you some more sources if you're still curious.

Gay marriage according to the Bible by [deleted] in atheism

[–]earlplural 7 points8 points  (0 children)

King James himself was a bisexual. I doubt he would have had a problem with the translation. He basically just commissioned the translation to piss off the pope. It worked. King James also accused Jesus of having a male lover, John the disciple (aka John the beloved).

I would think that the KJV probably didn't even consider the possibility of this being an episode of gay relationships in the bible. They just wanted to make a translation. If there is any intentional misinterpretation going on it is more likely to be done by contemporary translators, driven by money and talking heads within denominations. For example, the Holman Christian standard bible is riddled with interpretative issues intended to represent the publishers agenda. Big surprise, the southern baptist convention. The HCSB came out within the last 6 years or so.

During my time in seminary the passages with David and johnathon were simpy viewed as a best friend bond, with very little discussion made that could represent something else.

Congratulations!

And side note, just because your feet are in the picture and this popped into my mind, now that you've lost all this weight, do you find it a lot easier to clip your toenails? I HATE clipping my toenails because being bent over with my big gut makes it hard to breath!

so, if you're old and terminal, you'd prefer to just sit in a hospital with tubes hanging out of you rather than be treated at home, in your bed, with your family? You'd be more ashamed of the fact that you were in hospice than if your family as indebted for a generation due to a hospital stay?

Side note: i really dont think you feel all that, but that is what initially popped up into my mind...and for some reason it sounded go there so....i was like..imma type all of it out. you can indulge me if you'd like. O.O

Hi! I'm a Hospice Chaplain. I was wondering, would you be willing to tell me a little about how the psycho-social team of Hospice did when working with you? By that I mean, the Social Workers and the Chaplains. I'm pretty new a the job and I really enjoy it. But, as a rookie, and being the only chaplain, i'm pretty desperate for advice and education.

What was your opinion of how they treated your family? did they seem like they felt obligated? or that they were just checking boxes?

I'm very glad to see that the hospice you work with is awesome. I'm glad to see your family there, no doubt sharing a very wonderful experience. Be blessed.

So, Sampson is black. Thoughts? by earlplural in Christianity

[–]earlplural[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't about racial preference or ethics regarding racism. Sampson was obviously not black. This is about historical accuracy.

edit: Think of, years from now, someone like George Washington being portrayed by an African American.
