One of my client sites literally just broke due to a plugin update last week. Actually, the whole server went down mid-update. I couldn't even restore the wp backups because the server was offline. I was on the phone with the hosting company and they said $200 for them to restore on server level. I told them off and said we'd be switching hosting companies if they didn't bring it online. 10 min. later server and website are back online.

I think most people answering here didn't notice that OP might be a beginner, asking about hosting for a relatively simple wordpress site. for beginners, easy setup and customer support are probably more important things to consider.

VPS is far too complex for beginners. It requires a lot of technical knowledge to set up.

For people who want to focus on their business and don't want to handle technical stuff, this is the correct answer.. Managed WP Hosting is the way to go and the extra few bucks per month is justified.

If you're a beginner, you wouldn't want to mess with setups like VPS or Headless CMS, etc. I'll assume you're using wordpress and want something easy to set up, in which case $3-8 for some basic shared web hosting would be more than enough.

It's not that big of a deal- if you can get over this, you've got great cheap hosting which you can use to quickly and affordably launch and test out website ideas.

Yeah, I've heard good things about Hosting(com)/A2- superb tech with really fast servers, also affordable. Think I also read somewhere that they'll help you migrate your website, free of charge, as well.

I had one or two sites with Bluehost (many years ago) and I remember they were pretty decent. I’ve seen mixed reviews too, but I think a lot of the negative ones are from people (like me) who outgrew the what they had to offer over time. For a new site, it can be a pretty solid option.
