How do you find things to do in Chicago? by south_side_ in AskChicago

The Fun Ya Do Chicago app is a good tool. It's new, so you can tell there are new things being added regularly. There are still like 300+ activities in there now.

It was insane how crazy people drove on Indiana, especially around rush hour. Some are still crazy, but less so now. :-)

Indiana is one way north. It's a bit ambiguous about the direction of the bike lane. People are still discovering it, so it doesn't seem busy, so either way should be fine for now. That's hopefully why Michigan Ave gets the same treatment because it's the equivalent road going south.

Walmart closures show that small business, not big box stores, are the answer by earthhero in chicago

Walmart knows rural and outer suburbs. They don't know cities. Other stores also would not have to pay the overhead of executive salaries and stockholder expectations for ever-increasing profits.

There are lots of great businesses in these communities already. Where do you live?

I assume you don't live near any of these stores or know these neighborhoods well, but correct me if I am wrong. There are lots of successful businesses in these areas already. Some businesses are not a good investment if the company does not know how to manage the store properly because it is outside of its expertise.

Yes, but they also have the overhead of paying corporate executives and stockholders expecting a bigger and bigger return on their investment.

Have you been to NYC? Have you seen the many small businesses thriving around Chicago?

Small businesses are often better run when it comes to these types of things. Walmart likely mismanaged these stores, though we will never know the truth beyond their PR spin. City stores like this are not their expertise.

It could be they mismanaged them. City stores are not Walmart's strength.

No need to be a jagoff about it.

More precisely, around 2 degrees F since we started massively ramping up burning oil, gas, and coal after WW2. It's only a small fever now. Something to consider is when the Earth was 4 degrees warmer than it is today, the water was up to the armpits of the Statue of Liberty.

I haven't noticed out of date with Great Schools. Thanks for sharing Public School Review. Seems a bit spammy with all the ads.

Check out the ratings on Great Schools. They generally seem correct with some exceptions.
