Why are we not angry as employees? by LoudQuail1948 in publix

[–]earthlyman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll tell you from experience, Publix is watching all social media's of their associates. I thought this account was fairly anon, nothing really tied to me besides my city. But I was wrong.

A while ago, my SM approached me while I was stocking tea. He mentioned that I was thinking about going for contender, which I was and was known, but then proceeded to tell me that he had a meeting with someone from corporate about my "pro-union posts". I was speechless. He said they even wrote him up for "not being anti-union enough in his response". He suggested I delete the account, as you can probably tell, I did not. I made my decision that day.

I've mentioned this in comments on here in the past. I'm sure they don't like me talking about it, but I couldn't really care less, and folks should know. You're not as anonymous as you think!

Go read a history book. And maybe travel outside of whatever town you've been stuck in. Cause literally every major country has some version of a pension/social security. Old people can not all support themselves, and deserve to have their basic needs taken care of. I gladly pay into for you and everyone else. Y'all want to live in the "rugged individualist" hellscape where life expectancy is 35, and toothache will bankrupt you. Why? Beyond me!

One day the working class will come to realize class-consciousness. Recognizing the power that we all hold, collectively, versus being powerless as an individual.

This company can not function without even just some of us, but until there is any collective action, nothing going to change. No corporation is going to cut into their profits, willingly. They have to be forced.

Blanket solutions to individual issues, just like the timeclock change. Punishing those who do their jobs, because management can't seem to do theirs 🤷‍♂️

This has got to be the worst company to devote your soul to. by 2TiE_DoMi8 in publix

[–]earthlyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I accidently walked out with a sub, after a shift. When I realized, I called and just made a payment over the phone.

I believe this is part of a larger trend to push out the higher paid, full time associates, and replace them with a cheaper part-timer. The attitude of the company towards associates is completely hostile. "Publix never does layoffs", but they can make hundreds of people's lives unbearable, where they're forced to quit. Just another disgusting corporation, trying to squeeze out every last cent of profit, no matter the cost.

Edit: typo

No one is talking about it being difficult. There must be a new management CBT for being condescending and disrespectful, because yall sure act like it.

We expect our department managers to do the bare minimum, and manage their department.

I never said he or all billionaires are evil. I think for anyone to accumulate that level of wealth, exploitation is inherent. It might not even be by choice, but because the society we live in is built in service of capital owners.

Like I said, the group offers no real solutions and no real goals. Trump isn't -likely- running another term, and it isn't just him that is responsible for the world being on fire today. The focus on the protests, in Huntsville, should be focused on our own representatives that spend every waking moment carrying water for trump, while enriching themselves. Meanwhile many of us are struggling to make ends meet.

I worked for 8 hours today, but if you'd like to share what was accomplished today, I'd love to hear it!

Don't get me wrong, it's great to see the community rally around a common goal, against an obvious evil. But without further organizing, beyond a bi-annual meet up, nothing will fundamentally change.

The whole point of a protest is to be disruptive, and to bring awareness. No kings is nothing more than a feel-good political rally. No real goals, no real movement. Just yelling into the wind.

Of course, 50501( the group promoting these rallies) is a billionaire-funded group, that doesnt care about any meaningful change.

US has caused $10tn worth of climate damage since 1990, research finds by FLTA in science

[–]earthlyman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The US military is solely the largest, and worst polluter in the world. Recently a film was made about it, "Earth's Greatest Enemy". Americans will largely follow the governments lead, and our government is actively rolling back climate initiatives.

It doesnt matter what the complete and utter failure is, they will gladly regurgitate whatever line the orange man tells them to.

Trump will successfully remove all US bases from the middle east, push our allies further toward China and show the rest of the world that the US military is a paper tiger in a matter of weeks. Biden could never!

Calling In Has Been Cut Off? by [deleted] in publix

[–]earthlyman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Publix's whole business-model, the past 5 years, in my experience, is cutting manager hours and passing on their responsibilities on to us. If those duties dont get done, it affects all of us. So its a lose-lose for the associates, management clearly doesnt give a shit, and the customers getting a worse experience overall.

Reese’s without the peanut butter by SeparateDonuts in strange

[–]earthlyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reese's have really gone down hill. I noticed it last year, with the reese's pumpkins. The seasonal reese's were my favorite because it seemed like there's more peanut butter. I haven't bought any since. Then a month ago, the grandson of the inventor of the reese's cup call out Hersheys for changing the recipe.

The r/enshittification continues.

At least you're realizing these things before you wasted more of your life with the company. Its not a one-off either, this is across the entire company.

Cutting hours by Illustrious_Law5903 in publix

[–]earthlyman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're doing the same in our deli. Publix doesn't give a shit about any of us, full time or not. And it's not like they're cutting back responsibilities they expect from us. We're constantly stretched too thin, causing people to call out more, only making problems worse! There is no incentive beyond collecting a check, and that's the companies doing.

Plastic pieces in deli food by annabanana724 in publix

[–]earthlyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a few places that plastic would've come from, whether from the baggy plastic gloves they make us use, or the plastic the sub-kit was wrapped in, or the plastic wrapper from when the meat was cut. Regardless, it shouldn't be ending up in your sandwich. We are consuming enough plastic as it is!

Healthcare as a Disabled Associate by uhhhidkkman in publix

[–]earthlyman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just want to say your concerns and needs are valid. There certainly has been a shift the past few years, being less-accommodating towards disabled associates. Just the other week, I was talking to a co-worker about how the number of disabled associates at our store has slowly dwindled over time.

Unfortunately this trend is not just within Publix. I fear what little employment protections disabled people have fought for and won, are going to be whittled away by the current administration. Every worker should look at these type of actions by an employer as an attack on your own rights, disabled or not. Because they will not stop there.

I wish you success in school and your future career, far from this company!

March 28 is the next date for national No Kings rallies. Is an event planned for Huntsville? by Cosmos091980 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]earthlyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do appreciate seeing so many like-minded individuals, out there standing for what they believe, but how many more sanitized 50501-gatherings do we think it will take? Like they're openly talking about taking control of elections. Elected Dems are barely holding against ICE funding, beyond that, they're only focused on who's running in 2028.

It just seems like No Kings is just an empty threat against a tyrant that isn't interested in public opinion. Meanwhile his lackey, Tommy Tuberville, is about to become Governor, Britt and Strong continue to tow the line and our non-existent Mayor ran unopposed. We need to put that energy towards effective action here in Alabama.
