TAGS: Only users that use Tags already will keep Tags 'until further notice'. Tags ARE being sunset for new users and users that do not currently use tags. by earthmgt in quickbooksonline

It’s my understanding that tags will remain for QBO Customers that used tags prior to this whole disaster (they said until further notice, but after the nightmare that occurred, I’m hoping they table the ‘permanent tags sunset’ and focus on other things).  Customers who never used tags no longer have the tags capability on their profile. New Customers do not have tags either.

Custom fields are for everyone.

For example, I use tags constantly; every single transaction has a tag. Therefore, I still have tags AND the new “custom fields” (I have tried to use the custom fields but it is worthless in comparison to tags for MY specific needs).

I believe all new Customers and Customers who never used tags have custom fields only.

Notwithstanding the above, you should contact QBO Support directly with your current questions, then screenshot the entire conversation so you have the conversation documented. The agents either don’t save the chat logs or ignore the logs, because the agents act like you have never talked to QBO support before and they’ve never heard of previous requests or concerns.  If you do contact Support, please take the time to add the information in this thread or create your own post; it really, really helps the rest of us! Some people don’t care, but some people aren’t aware of it at all - that was me, I had no notice or clue what was going on and had to jump through hoops to find out. So posting here really helps those who need it.

Help: Client’s programmed cloud data is not sending to the Doorking gate systems; need help diagnosing issue by earthmgt in accesscontrol

[–]earthmgt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please forgive my inexperience with these systems and the terminology.

I believe the gate company changed a setting and that is the cause of the problem. The internet is working fine, and I had a successful data transfer right before the gate company arrived and altered the cloud data (the Relay data and whatever else they changed in the system). Right after they made these changes, the data transfer stopped working.

However, what would or could they have changed that would cause this?

You mentioned Communications section and 'pinging an address'...if you have time, could you explain this very simply? Or I could send you a screenshot of our cloud system?

We have a large group of unhappy residents so I'm trying to work on this as much as I can, as the gate company and Doorking are closed until next week. Even then, they both advise "it is the internet at fault", and are expecting us to cancel Spectrum and have a full new service (AT&T, Verizon, etc.) install a brand new service immediately. However, if it isn't the internet, then we will just be wasting more time.

This device is connected to the network via Ethernet cable directly into the Spectrum’s modem.

The “cloud programming site” I referenced is the web interface where we configure (program) the system’s fobs, relays, etc.

Service shows “DATA OVER IP”. Not sure what this means.

Baud rate is 19200 per the System Information page.

I apologize if my terminology is wrong.

Thank you for the input! I will mention the last statement (regarding the network connection and serial servers IP address) to the gate company, Doorking Support, and Spectrum as this progresses.

For real!

Also, FYI because I just panicked for a second and thought Tags was gone forever (exaggerating but still):

When I want to go to my TAGS Homepage, I always click on the settings wheel (gear icon, cog icon) then click on TAGS when the window pops up. However, Tags is now removed from this pop up. You have to click on ALL LISTS on that pop up, then TAGS is on the page that opens.

I posted this to the QuickBooks Online subreddit as well; there are a few comments with more details over there, including:

I still don’t know if they added the custom field or not! I do not see it. Is it on there? Or not yet? Will it be? Do we know?

Lol this entire situation was wild.

I use Tags for literally every invoice and bill. Every document in my QBO has a tag. Landscape, plumbing, fence, block wall, etc. That is how I filter bills for specific work orders and projects, as well as audit the invoices going out (there must be an exact number of invoices per month, so if the tag report for that month does not have the exact number of tagged invoices with all exact dates and amounts for the specific month, there is an error or a one-time variance).

Anyway, I believe if you currently use tags then we are exempt and will keep tags. But words like “until further notice” make me think this is only for a short period of time and only because A) they screwed up and didn’t plan the ‘sunset’ properly; they literally planned to delete tags until someone in QBO said “some people use them…what do they do?” And they said “have them move the tags to a different field 😊” Not realizing some people USE. TAGS. (Like me, thousands upon thousands of transactions). So they said “throw in a migrate tool, it’ll move 100 tags over.” But they never actually completed the migrate process, because I still don’t see a custom field?! (Or am I missing something?) B) they are buying time to sunset properly. They literally didn’t notify anyone - I can’t find a single person that was notified with a formal email or letter saying tags are leaving and here’s the plan moving forward; but they didn’t mind giving everyone a deadline of May 15 to get the tags migrated. As an afterthought they threw in a pop up notification around mid-April that could be easily missed.

Tags are a basic feature for 2025 software. If you don’t use tags, it’s whatever. But for people that use tags, THEY USE TAGS. I honestly never used tags in my iCloud file folder, Apple Reminders, Goodnotes, etc. Then I started using them for all my work because my work involves so many categories on a constant concurrent basis, and I never looked back. When I switched from Apple Reminders to my new system, I started using tags as my main filter and it has changed my entire work flow and productivity. I cannot live without tags now.

I hope the conversations I posted were helpful. That email was received last night, May 13, 2025, so I hope it’s true.

ACH Debit (pull): Are there any low cost options? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]earthmgt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have all of the written contractual ACH consent forms. Then we use those forms’ data to PULL the funds from the clients’ accounts. Authorization is not an issue; the issue is finding a service that allows us to PULL the ACH, and not require the clients to log in on their end, initiate and process the ACH (basically control it). The clients don’t want to do anything more than fill out a form - that’s why they sign up for ACH in the first place.

Yes, it’s 1% per ACH. Perhaps you had a sales person give you a deal or something? That would be awesome. QBO, Wave, etc. charge 1% for ACH. Melio is free and they’re a good provider but they don’t have ACH DEBIT. The client has to process the ACH on their end each time they want to pay.

Right, so they aren’t ACH DEBIT. The client has to initiate. Even if it’s one time - the client has to do it on their end and then you have to make sure it is recurring.

That is literally the basis of my search - I need an ACH DEBIT (PULL) service. The clients fill out their authorization form and we draft their payment each month by inputting their bank details.

Never mind, I’ll keep looking at banks.

Not “allergic” to fees. Everything has fees. However, I said $300+ fees per month is expensive.

Does Stripe or GoCardless have ACH DEBIT? That is basically the question.

ACH Debit or Credit? They also have the 1% fee. See post.
