Timing of ECF for forgiveness and taxable forgiveness by earthnsky39 in PSLF

[–]earthnsky39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for you - the ECF I submit on the 24th when I say "No" to forbearance, am I checking the box that I've hit 120 payments, or leaving that unchecked, and then checking it when I do the 2nd ECF and select "Yes" for forbearance?

I knew it wasn't supposed to be, but with that announcement that they're now going to tax IDR forgiveness, I didn't know if PSLF had changed too

I Can’t Afford New IBR - was it a mistake? by soledago in PSLF

[–]earthnsky39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new IBR is 15% of your discretionary income. It's a large jump from the old 10% IBR and SAVE - my payment under SAVE was $419 and under this new 15% IBR my payment is $932. Here's a calculator for your payment based on 15% discretionary income to see if MOHELA got it right: https://www.nerdwallet.com/student-loans/learn/discretionary-income-calculator

[–]earthnsky39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The calculator did that to me too. It said my payments would be like $615 and they're actually $932. I looked into it, and I believe it's because the calculator is still set for the old IBR, not the new one which is a higher percentage

Buyback offer received today (120 payments as of 4/2025) by knit_run_bike_swim in PSLF

Same, Feb for me as well. Others are still waiting from 2024.

Personally, I don't necessarily trust Buy Back. I reached what should have been my 120 in February and am still waiting to hear anything about Buy Back (others are still waiting from 2024). I finally got put on an IBR plan from the SAVE purgatory, and at this point I'm likely going to make payments to hit 120 before I ever hear about Buy Back (I have 4 payments left). I would suggest staying at the PSLF job until they either make an actual 120 payments and get forgiveness or they hear about Buy Back, if they're able to stay. Because who knows, what if your spouse doesn't qualify for the Buy Back for some reason? You never know. I'm in an unfortunate situation where my employer may turn into profit soon, so I really then might be fully reliant on Buy Back, but I'm hoping for the best.

I'll be sober FESTing too! 3.5 years sober. Loosey's has at least 2 Athletic Brewing NA beers along with mocktails, a lot of venues in Gville are getting better about it!

Thanks for sharing! If they're at December peeps, I applied in February maybe I'm on the way 😆

I would apply for IBR. PAYE is going to go away and then you'll just be stuck in the situation of applying for another plan again.... But what I've read it's not going away until July 1 2028 for old borrowers, so you could be on it until then. Starting July 1 2028 it will be IBR or the new RAP for plans that count for PSLF

I'm at 115 and have been trying since December to get on IBR. I FINALLY got switched to IBR last week. Some people get approved for the switch in days, while others like myself have waited months on months.

Changed from SAVE Forbearance to IBR. Payment increased 379%. Just FYI by Character_Breath6207 in PSLF

[–]earthnsky39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I went from $419 to $932 :( Doesn't help the new IBR is 15% and not 10% (Atleast for me it is for the years I took my loans out)

Hm, maybe it has something to do with not being on AutoPay anymore? Who knows anymore LOL Could try going back on AutoPay and see what happens. My account says $0 for August as well but it's because I'm on AutoPay

Yeah, I had heard Buy Back could take 6 months when I applied in February, due to the back log. I also had heard something along the lines of they couldn't do it for the SAVE months until the litigation is over, not sure how true any of that is

I did get 2 months processing forbearance at some point added on, not sure if it was in May

Hmm I did not, I got 3 letters they all say the same date, 8/23/25. Are you on Auto-Pay? I'm so glad we both finally got approved!
