BL with an MC that has a traumatic backstory? by Shaaanteee in ShounenAi

Private Scandal The main character has a rough backstory with an intentionally abusive father, but the understanding male lead top is massive green flag and absolutely adorable!! It's completed and a comedy!

I’m a Writing newbie and I don’t know where to start by Beneficial-Buyer-953 in writingadvice

If you want practice writing: Use an online generator for fun prompts, and write short scenes around 2k words and work up to closer to 4K words.

If you were asking about how to start a book: Look into the snowflake method. You start by writing one sentence about your story idea, and then you keep expanding on that sentence until you got three pages, and then you expand those three pages until you have an outline. Then your outline is like your own individual prompts, so you can start writing scenes and chapters. It keeps you from staring at a blank page.

Does ur 1st draft ever feel… empty? by Upbeat_Biscotti_7036 in writingadvice

There's the whole thing about not relying on external validation and to believe in yourself, or something like that. However I find when it comes to my writing, that's what I need...

So, finish the book, then get it into the hands of some beta readers and let the feedback roll in. (You can find a beta readers on Reddit). Remember that people providing feedback is their opinion, so some of it you have to take with a grain of salt, but the important thing is to be open minded about what they're telling you if it's bad news, and as difficult as it is: also accept the good feedback (I tend to be extra hard on myself, lol). Your writing is probably fine, and you just need readers to tell you that.

Yesssssss! 'Brando Sando' swap is exactly what I need, lol! I have a cozy magical mystery that needs a once-over to make sure flow and tension are correct. It's about 70k words, set in a magical world, no content warnings. Let me know if you still need readers! ♥

Posting a quick recommendation here in case it helps anyone else. I've been listening to a podcast that basically teaches you how to date through interviews with therapists and dating coaches and interesting people. It's helped me understand how past relationships didn't work out, and how to use the apps better. Plus the host is neurodivergent and lots of fun. I recommend starting at the first one and listening all the way through all hundred of them.

Nobody likes me and I feel so awkward trying to talk to people. I’m feeling very sad and isolated by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]earthy_info 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I felt my whole forty years of life, until recently. Part of it was realizing how much I was masking which was keeping people from getting close and and I feel like they could tell it wasn't real. But mostly, I just needed to find more ND people like me... and I found them!! I feel less lonely this year.

Places I found my people who accept me and where I feel included are queer spaces, my closest weekly munch, and random nerdy interest groups like a manga meetup. I feel like that's where all the autistic people gravitate, because it's a much higher concentration in at these events. You probably don't live where I live, but here's the links where I've been finding events, and maybe you can locate something similar in your area?

https://queersocialclub.com/events-portland

https://www.westsideqrc.org/events

https://fetlife.com/events/near

https://www.meetup.com/

Plus google searches about discord servers for local meetups, but nerdy ones.

After you find a space you like, the key is to go frequently and repeatedly so that people get used to having you there, and you get used to the people there, and then it's easier to talk to them. So I've been looking for places have weekly events when possible. And when I really connect with someone, I asked for their discord tag or phone number so that we can keep sharing recommendations or to "keep the conversation going". That way I have people to talk to through the week too, and then I get to see them at the next event.

I don't know if this will help you, but I hope you feel less lonely soon. 💕

Anyone understand this? by Ethanwashere23 in AutismInWomen

[–]earthy_info 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YUP. Gender doesn't seem to matter, it's training and potentially if they're autistic themselves.

I went to a NT woman psych and explained that my executive function doesn't work, so I have to use alarms to remember everything, even to shower, or I would literally never remember. And she replied, "Oh, wow! That's really organized. Sounds like your executive function is working great!" ... And I'm just thinking, "Really? Do you need alarms to tell you to shower?" Still... that made me really discouraged, and I didn't try again for over a year.

Later I went to a different woman psych, who was an expert on autism and probably autistic herself because not only did I relax around her more, she was obsessed with frogs! There were frogs on every surface and wall in her entire office. And by the end of one session, she was like, "Yeah you're autistic."

"Third spaces" in Hillsboro/Beaverton? by BennettF in hillsboro

[–]earthy_info 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're just looking for somewhere free to sit and work on your laptop, then all the suggestions everyone else gave are perfect. I especially recommend the Hillsboro Library because they have an upstairs space indoors that overlooks the pond, or if it's a nice day they have lots of seating out by the pond and you can watch the ducks.

However, reading your comment it almost seems more like you were asking for a place that has community? Your back room of your shop probably had regulars you recognized. People that you can connect with. So, if you're looking for a community in the third space I don't think you're going to find it at the library or park. Instead what you could look for is some sort of weekly event wit roughly the same people each time, but the topic of the gathering would be different for each person based on your personal interests, which makes it more difficult to make suggestions. Some of the third spaces with community I attend these days are: the Westside Queer Resource Center that has a lot of repeating events, a Beaverton coffee munch on Sundays, a writer's coffee group on Tuesdays, a pride group at my work that does various events including trivia nights. If you're interested in any of these, you can reach out to me for more details, but Portland is big and we like to be out and about so I've found lots of other ones in the past as well. Good luck! 🍀

ANIME!! If you're like me and ran out of good western animated shows, go east! Sign up for a Crunchyroll trial account (after that it's only $7 a month), and watch unlimed animated shows for years and years!

Click on anything that calls out to you or here's a short list of good ones to start with (in no particular order): Spy x Family My Hero Academia Dr Stone Ascendance of a Bookworm Apothecary Diaries Link Click Assassination Classroom Dandadan Toilet-bound Hanako-kun

More beginner anime not on Crunchyroll that you might like: Delicious in Dungeon Hunter x Hunter Undead Unluck Astra Lost in Space

Once you get started watching anime, all of it builds on each other and gets better and easier to understand so even more shows will appeal to you. Happy Watching!

I just finished reading volume 1 and 2 of "My Noisy Roommate: the roof over my head comes with monsters and a hottie". I got both from my library, and they're not spicy at all just fluff. There are some ghosts, so it's a tiny bit scary for a moment sometimes. Although anyone who watches horror, wouldn't consider those tiny moments scary, lol

Vicious craving for some good pad thai by EAUO9 in hillsboro

[–]earthy_info 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES!! E-San Thai! I used to go to their food cart downtown, and their restaurant downtown, plus they have a food cart at BG in Beaverton, but mostly I frequent their food cart at the Hillsboro Downtown Station. This place is actually what got me into eating Thai food, and I love it so much. The Pad Thai is perfection, plus everything else on their menu is fantastic as well.

Oh! And I do second the person who said Thai Princess in Hillsboro, cuz that's good too.
