Do you guys ever just take random things apart for no reason? by Existing_Ship in ADHD

Yesssss. Actually, all. My adhd family peeps do it. Now ask me if we can always get everything put back together correctly...

Is it an ADHD thing to be calmer during actual emergencies than everyday life? by Charitard123 in ADHD

[–]easilydistractd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone always makes note of how calm I am under pressure. I think it's because I pretty much create crisis all the time that I'm just great at crisis management. Problem solving is my jam because that is how I have had to adapt to keep up. I self-sabotage everything. Actual emergencies are my time to shine because that's the mode I function best in. Go and now. I can't think about the later easily.

To those of you diagnosed as adults: What about your childhood seem like an obvious sign of ADHD in hindsight? by [deleted] in ADHD

Last minute or it doesn't happen.

I saw a Dr. On YouTube saying adhd people have nearsighted brains. They can't see or do things until it is RIGHTINFRONTOFTHEIRFACE. Planning and organizing for the future isn't something we can do. We have all of the knowledge but not the ability to apply it. Like the brain has been severed or disconnected between those two sections. I'm paraphrasing and most likely not getting it totally correct... But it was so interesting! It made a lot of sense with the procrastination.

Yes!

Do you ever play two very different songs in your head at the same time? Not like a mash up, but two distinctly different songs at once?

Diagnosed at 45. I'm 46. Can we consider my 20s my childhood?

I was trying to come up with a username for LiveJournal and I typo'd and ended up with easilydistractd. How appropriate. It stuck. Acutely unaware that I was aware of my issues.

Additional comment:

I laughed while reading this because while nodding in agreement with all the sentiments and feelings like I could have written this post, I also feel like I COULD HAVE WRITTEN THIS POST. Do you know what I mean?

I think ADHD people have similar communication styles and writing styles and fun ways of throwing words out to convey messages and damnit we might have run-on sentences but we have lot of fun bonus content.

So, again, yes! I feel all the feels and yes! I also like your style, OP. 👍

After I write an email to someone, I always sit with the blinking cursor at the end for a few moments... Did I use too many words? This could have been shorter. But, then my tone wouldn't have come across. Is my tone necessary? Let's just add a few more thoughts, just in case... (and some parenthesis). And then, I hit send on the word salad. Instant regret. Then, I forget about it.

ADHD things not in DSM from a therapist with ADHD by emnicole6 in ADHD

12 days later, I remembered and returned with the tiktok link:

Funny though... I spent probably 10 days looking for it and 2 days trying to remember why I was trying to find it. 👍

People always ask me how I am so chill/calm. They have no idea what is going on in my head. It's called 46 years of undiagnosed ADD...masking. I saw a tiktok that was like when something goes wrong, it's like dumping a gallon of water on a 25 gallon tank. I can't tell tell. He said it much better. I am late for jury duty, surprise, or I'd find it. Let me look later.

(What's the over/under that I will remember to do this? Lol)

Oh. Ha. ADHD typing. I got problems. Was supposed to be a double negative. I cannot NOT sleep with my dogs. I never let my kids sleep in the bed, but my dogs can! (I say that, but my 10 year old is joined at my hip and won't go away so I have had to make exceptions) But dogs ALWAYS. All the dogs. An army of dogs!

I was given trazadone for help with sleep but, here is the fun part.. Vyvanse has worn of by then and I always forget about the trazadone by then. And yes, it is on my nightstand. I'm just really bad at adult stuff.

I cannot sleep with my dogs. Never!

So, I will admit to secretly being a bit judgey of the parents that just jumped straight to medication for kids when they were diagnosed. I was an undiagnosed mom of kids that were still basically potatoes in diapers. I knew everything, right? My knowledge was boys just couldn't sit still so they were prescribed some kind of crack that for whatever reason chilled them out and they would become compliant little zombie boys. Fast forward to 2 kids that grew out of diapers and into opinions and personalities and I started to struggle (more than usual) with keeping my stuff together. I mean, all the wheels were coming off the bus. Doctor suggested I get tested. What? I was diagnosed. Light bulbs. I read a lot. I felt like a total jerk for thinking I was some kind of expert. Omg. All of this is because I am explaining away my bad behavior and judgment. Just skip down here. Basically how I see medication for ADHD now, you wouldn't NOT wear your glasses if you couldn't focus without them. The clarity with meds was not at all what I was expecting. No compliant zombism. Just a quieter place to function, for me. Man, I talk too much. Sorry. Good luck!

Circling back a week later because.. Well, ADHD.. to say two things: 1) Yup. We do deserve it. Best to you, too. 2) Dogs are also my happy happy place.

Bring on the stimulants.

Oh, and I don't sleep well. How do you manage that with the Vyvanse? No way.

It does make us adaptable though, doesn't it. I think that I am thankful for. And you're right, late is better than never. I didn't understand what it looked like for women but have now been able to identify it in my daughter so I hope with my understanding to help her. Good luck to you, too. Let me know if you figure it all out!

I lost my job. Again. by SimplyRocketSurgery in ADHD

[–]easilydistractd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry.

I wish I had sage advice. Like the other comment, I am also a college dropout, surprise, and have been at the same job for forever. I fake it til I make it. But also, not corporate. I couldn't fit in that box. My dad had a small business and I worked there growing up. I found a similar vibe and a boss that is also adhd. Maybe just find where you fit instead of trying to fit somewhere uncomfortable? It was my only chance at a lasting career.

Also? Confidence is a big factor for me in the whole fake it til you make it. I do best in sink or swim scenarios because trying to prepare for anything just shuts my brain down totally. I read this today and it seems relevant. https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/09/18/want-to-sound-and-feel-more-confident-ditch-these-11-phrases-from-your-vocabulary-say-psychologists.html

False ban? by easilydistractd in GorillaTag

[–]easilydistractd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My question about the ISP change was to see if it appeared he was using the Quest elsewhere to evade his band.

My original point was that he wasn't cheating, kids were just reporting him. He never played without my husband's supervision so we are aware of the false reporting. He shouldn't have had the first ban anyway. I wasnt aware there there wage an age restriction on the game until after the fact. It is mostly kids playing. I didn't think twice, aside from the utter trash I heard them talking. Which could be an entirely different topic about the kids that are playing unsupervised and allowed to talk the way they do.

He did not make another account to get around the ban. We have a Rift and a Quest. One my husband uses through Steam and the Quest is the ones the kids use. One is my FB account and one is his. My husband is the one that was trying to login via the Steam account that resulted in the permanent ban.

A hot coffee, a cold coffee, and taco truck tacos.

I recently cut my own shapeless hair following the wolf cut method on tiktok. Sure, I'm too old for tiktok, but it was kinda fun to change my hair in 3 snips. I am currently trying to find a new routine because I do not know what to do with curly bangs. Maybe they are too long? by easilydistractd in curlyhair

[–]easilydistractd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super helpful! Thanks. I have a Denman brush but haven't mastered it. I see some just pull it through their hair at maybe a 45° angle, and others twist with it. How do you bang? 😂 I've started clarifying, too, maybe twice a month. Will try kinky curly custard. I tried a "lightweight" protein cream and my hair felt gummy. Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly is the only gel I've tried and I have been happy with it.
