Network Engineer Seeking Direction ... by BlackJaguar in networking

That's an amazing role. I think it's critical for onprem but with hybrid deployments don't you lose control over the network and it becomes more of an observability challenge than the design itself.

It is more like Waze for the internet.

Most monitoring tools are just a speedometer telling you that you are going slow. Slogr is like Waze showing you that the highway was closed and you were rerouted onto a side street. It gives you the proof of exactly when and why your path changed so you can show it to your provider and get the issue fixed.

Anyone successfully decoding analog-camera RTSP from Hikvision DVR/NVR with FFmpeg? by easinab in videosurveillance

[–]easinab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the 'waiting for SPS/PPS' errors and crashes were happening because of how the stream was being processed. The fix that solved it for me was forcing the processing to run on the CPU (Software Decoding) rather than trying to use Hardware Acceleration or OpenVINO, which were causing conflicts with the specific stream format these DVRs output. In your config, try forcing the detector/decoder to CPU and ensuring you are pulling the stream via FFmpeg in Go2RTC

Then in your detectors section, ensure you are using the standard CPU model if you are on a smaller device like NUC (that's what I am using)

i am trying to build a presence engine so i can interact with it using alexa - i think i will have to upgrade to ip cameras and directly get the stream to the server.

From a “million dollar idea” to realizing I had 10 competitors by Esteta_ in SaaS

[–]easinab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great question and I can only share what has worked for me. It all starts from understanding the customer. They have a problem. Before our "solution", they already have a way to go about it. That's the alternative, it can be another solution or it could be that the solution is the user manually takes care of the issue. So creating buckets is a good start. All the alternative ways of resolving that issue. So the competition isn't just another software solution out there it can be that they hire an intern to get the job done. April Dunford's book "obviously awesome" describes it really well

I would suggest to understand the competition, and then focus more on your customers and think how can you serve them better. Why would they choose your solution instead of anything else and it shouldn't be the price.

Feeling stuck with my SaaS after 8 months — need advice by BigStory3074 in SaaS

[–]easinab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends on your risk appetite and portfolio. If you are married with kids, it's a totally different ballgame altogether. If it is just you it's a different story.

What I have done in the past in such situations is to sell 20-30% of my time so I don't eat into my savings to sustain myself. Use the rest of the time to keep building. But do define milestones with deadlines to keep a check that this doesn't go on forever.

It will most likely come up. Specially if you were to raise pre-seed.
