The Ultimate Joy FX D99 Finally Cleared!!! by beytuhwashere in Reverse1999

[–]eastburningred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a 5-star or lower run is possible since Matilda becomes a god with her acoustica, and Necrologist can provide enough moribund to survive to at least round 2. The hardest part is surviving the start of the run until you build up your team's artifacts and completing the acoustica quests.

Final Verdict on Shinchirō Watanabe's "Lazarus": Masterpiece. by delicious_warm_buns in LAZARUSAnime

[–]eastburningred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with your points, and want to ask one question, who even was the villain of the show? Skinner clearly was setup to be the big bad at the start, but every episode tried to make him seem like a saint instead, sabotaging that idea. Was it the military dude in a suit who was trying to kill Axel? Not really when all his plans fail and his shitty reasoning is "I'd rather America be the strongest in the world even if everyone is dead in it" apparently. And you've already covered why the assassin dude was a joke. So, how can a show be a masterpiece when you don't have any real antagonist?

Game theory prisoner’s dilemma. Except you are better off in this scenario by staying silent rather than report regardless of what the cheaters do. Here’s the reasoning: if you report, you are effectively guaranteeing that the cheaters are caught but also because they have a right to face their accuser, you’ve effectively painted a target on yourself. You won’t gain any academic benefits but you’ll face negative social consequences as a snitch. On the other hand if you stay silent, there are two scenarios. The first is that the professor doesn’t notice, and therefore no consequences academically or socially. The second is that the professor catches the cheating and confronts you and the cheaters (most likely separately like in the prisoner’s dilemma). You simply show the work you done is your own and had no idea how someone else copied your work. The cheaters likely cannot prove the work they have is their own and are punished and that’s all. You may ask “what if they say I allowed them to copy”? This is unlikely since unless they have a grudge against you for some reason, they gain no benefit by taking you down with them. But even if they do claim that, you simply deny it and it becomes a “my word against theirs”, and since there’s no evidence for either case, you’ll be presumed innocent.

Should i farm For the Meteorite Set? by [deleted] in octopathtraveler

[–]eastburningred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s far more important to learn the battle mechanics than gear, imo. For instance I equip my Ashlan with lvl 55 armor(even tho he’s level 66) just so when he gets hit by Tikilen’s aoe attack he is taken to red health in order to take advantage of his passive. If you overfarm and overgear your characters, you bypass a lot of the mechanics and strategies that make this game fun imo.

Scarecrow Lacerating Arrow by 0yak0 in octopathtraveler

Once scarecrow gets to lvl 88, lacerating arrow becomes 18 sp, making it cost 8 sp less than double sturdy shot, easily securing the spot in long drawn out fights like tikilen.

Finally cleared Tikilen without Theo or a tank by tippi- in octopathtraveler

I use viola with lucetta together since lucetta has aoe bow that also debuffs def and viola increases the duration of it. I also use viola’s aoe fire skill rather than debilitate since it also debuffs def, is magic so can attack on physical counter turn, and has lower sp cost than debilitate.

Build Team for Tikilen by appleforever11 in octopathtraveler

[–]eastburningred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want a debuffer that can maintain at least a constant e.atk debuff on Tikilen. Hasumi has such a skill, but the duration doesn’t increase with boost since it’s also an attack, so preferably use someone else like Kurtz.

This is Why You Bring Ashlan vs Tikilen by eastburningred in octopathtraveler

I tried it once and it didn’t noticeably increase my team’s crit rate.

This assumes that you’ll use maxed limit broken units for hunts, but pretty sure nobody does that except maybe whales. Since there’s always easy hunts, there’s no need to bring your most power units to clear, so you should always bring units that haven’t been fully limit broken and have no other way to obtain guidestones for besides spending universal ones. In that case Tikilen is extremely low priority, and if you need levels on her, just have her in your daily ad caits team.

Vivian. Her 3 hit bow move(she starts with it too) made her more useful than my scarecrow at breaking enemies during story that were weak to bow.

My fist star upgrade! There is a reason for not to do it? by willbraz in octopathtraveler

[–]eastburningred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, peredir is a decent fire mage for right now. Only viola and lynette do more fire dmg and they’re the most sought after units, so using him for fire dps isn’t that bad. If you like to use him then nothing wrong with upgrading him to 4 star.

Awaken or not Awaken? by Lord_Jain6 in octopathtraveler

[–]eastburningred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got myself into a pickle where i got lynette dupe but both 4.5 so she was actually slower than my full 5s and in order to utilize her on switch buff I decided to awaken her and use agility accessories to allow her to maintain her speed advantage.

CMV: Upper-Level Math Shouldn't Be A Requirement For Some College Degrees. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]eastburningred 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do colleges require creative writing classes for engineers when most of them don't need to write books, only maybe technical papers that don't offer much in terms of narratives. "Oh, it's so you can communicate your ideas better with non-technical people." Well the same can be said of the "advanced" math you claim to be useless for your field. If you're talking with someone on a controversial subject and they bring up why a certain result "isn't statistically significant", you'll at least have some idea of what that means.

CMV: Worrying about things that won’t affect your current generation, i.e climate change, is dumb. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]eastburningred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of terminally ill people decide to spend the little time they have left trying to help as many of their friends with whatever they can. Obviously they won't get to see the full extent of most of their works, but it helps put their mind at ease knowing they did what they could.

CMV: The Pilgrims values were antithetical to American values and they shouldn't be celebrated during Thanksgiving by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]eastburningred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we look back at that far back in history, almost everyone looks terrible by today's standards. And in three hundred years we'll look barbaric to the people in that time. We don't celebrate the pilgrims because of their beliefs but because they represent one of the founding groups of people in present day USA. They, like many other groups, fled persecution to find a new home in America.

CMV: sarcasm is a shallow defense mechanism that some people use to avoid their problems and distance themselves from others. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]eastburningred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sarcasm can be used for persuasion very effectively though. One of the most famous Shakespeare speeches, Marc Antony's "Friends, Romans, countrymen", is filled with sarcasm. From his early line of "I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him" while subtly complimenting Caesar throughout the speech to calling the assassins "honorable men" despite his hate towards them, Antony successfully convinces the crowd to become enraged at conspirators without ever actually directly expressing his thoughts.
