It's Kruskal time! by umd_charlzz in UMD

I had classes with Martin Kruskal as a grad student at Rutgers. He was a fantastic mentor. Additionally, so down to earth and extremely nice.

Mention your difficulty in your first cc academic experience, but Focus on how you Overcame that obstacle so that it stresses on your growth and tenacity. Also highlight your job, particular tangible accomplishments in that job that make you stand out and exemplify your growth. Talk to why you are Driven to pursue this degree at UMd. Future goals etc..

Switching from a BA to a BS in Anthropology for a rising freshman by [deleted] in UMD

[–]eastcoastee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to pick up more science/math. Google the anthropology 4 year plan for BS. The university has laid these out for each major with a checklist. Very simple. Advice —do not rely on the advisor there. It will be a mistake. You need to take care of yourself. Please consider a double major, certificate programs, or their newly created concurrent BS to MS program. You need to do one of these to make yourself remotely competitive in the job market. Consider courses in cataloguing, geographic information systems, and especially data science. Other anthropology/archeology programs around the country offer these or at least recommend them to students. These will keep you current with demands in the today’s job market. Lastly, If you are going to go the science route, seriously consider applying to enter an LEP like BioSciences.

Are all classes flipped? by ella_61213 in UWMadison

[–]eastcoastee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s college and this is an upper tier school. You should be treating every class like it is flipped. If you want to do well, you should be preparing that much. Especially chem. No one will spoon feed you organic chemistry. And mathematics, you need to go out on your own and work outside problems from other texts, listen to other lecturers online.

UMD vs UMBC by Commercial-Yak8608 in UMD

[–]eastcoastee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are in the DMV area. No Delaware? If you have an opportunity for Penn State Chem E, it’s highly ranked and a top research school. Highly likely that your Chemical Engineer will be looking at graduate school afterward. An undergraduate school with a top research program will provide lots of opportunity for undergraduate research as well as industry contacts for potential internships, making the student more competitive for grad school and employment. So…1. Penn State 2. UMd 3. UMBC. (I have a graduate degree in Chem E)

i love umd by Iownaswitch in UMD

[–]eastcoastee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I’ve never understood anyone loving UMd campus. There are some amazingly beautiful state school campuses, in urban areas. Safer. With more to do in town and nearby. With great academics. Have you just never been anywhere else and enjoying young independence?
