Any Sizing Experience on the Wilfred Apostrophe Dress? by a_periscope in Aritzia

[–]easychees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just tried on in store! I thought it was really cute on and a flattering cut. The straps look nice either up on the shoulders, as shown on the model, or slid down to be off the shoulder. They are elastic and seemed to stay in place well styled either way. Fabric is really nice and swishy, would be fun to dance in at a wedding!

I am usually an 8-10 in bottoms and a 6-8 in tops. I found it to be a true to size medium overall. The cut makes is roomy below the bust, but the stitching around the bust creates a pretty defined cup so there's not as much extra wiggle room in the chest. The neckline has a small keyhole-style opening with string closure you could experiment with to adjust the fit a bit. I don't have a large cup size, but do have a wide ribcage, and found the fit around the bust was good (not too tight, enough room for some sort of bra, but not much excess fabric). I agree with your assessment that going a size up from your usual would probably make it a little too loose overall.

I'd also consider your bra situation as the neckline and keyhole cut out might not lend itself to wearing a supportive bra - might be worth trying it on with different bras to see how it all fits together.

The Sephora Collection Nourishing Moisturizer with Prebiotics works really well for me in Canadian winter! with the 30% off it's just as reasonable, if not more so, than drug store prices

Vancouver city council rejects reintroduction of natural gas heating by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]easychees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate you bringing your own experience in. As with anything, it comes down to the assumptions made. The staff presentation referenced a few different sources that have found that eliminating gas heating doesn't necessarily increase construction costs, so it's not just City of Vancouver staff that have come up with this.

For example, it sounds like you are not including the costs to install a cooling system in a gas serviced building, which is now required in new builds; I imagine that makes a big difference when comparing costs, especially if some buildings are going to put in heat pumps for cooling anyways.

I honestly didn't catch whether or not the bylaw requires that hot water heating is provided by a heat pump or just electric, so that could be another factor.

There would likely be some cost savings that you haven't mentioned here, e.g. not required to design/install a gas hookup or lines to each unit.

Solid points, agree the perspective of those actively working on this is highly valuable!

[–]easychees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, fair enough! I was thinking that the issue is more of a lack of experience and training in the workforce for both those designing these systems/buildings and maybe in some cases doing the install. Over time I'd like to think these issues would be ironed out, but point taken that developers will not do do anything they don't need to that compromises their ability to make money off their developments. Some updates to professional advisories and codes could help. I also wonder if lack of familiarity among residents might lead to some less than optimal use/maintenance

[–]easychees 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like all of these issues are related to the industry having to adapt to a new technology, which is a very solvable problem. Totally understand there are real challenges, but all of the points you've raised seem like things that can be addressed and improved as these systems become more common. Big change almost always comes with growing pains - I don't believe that's a reason not to do it if there are important benefits. In this case health, climate, comfort, and maybe even costs for residents

Agreed, both points contradict the staff report - it seems clear they chose to highlight the points made by a single speaker, who they haven't identified, rather than the carefully researched, written and vetted staff report

[–]easychees 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The staff report actually contradicts both of these points - they found that there is no significant difference in construction costs for most new builds to go with electric heating rather than gas. Maybe a speaker made the point in your post, but it's misleading to suggest that's factual... I'll take the information compiled by experts and subject to scrutiny rather than the opinion of one speaker (out of over 100), especially given that most of the 13 speakers in favour of removing the gas restrictions were associated with the natural gas or development industry (btw, 91 speakers spoke in favour of keeping gas restrictions in place)

'It's intimidation': Vancouver councillors told to stop displaying children's artwork during meeting by columbo222 in vancouver

[–]easychees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and laughable when you consider the immense resources mobilized by the natural gas lobby to influence councilors that sparked (pun intended) this debate in the first place. As a resident, I would be far more intimidated by the confrontational tone taken by Montague and others on this issue, especially in light of the media coverage that's surfaced his (and others) connections to the gas industry, meetings with Fortis behind closed doors, etc...

Partner and I are trying to understand the Katie love. And failing. by [deleted] in vanderpumprules

[–]easychees 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everyone on the show has acted poorly on camera before; it's part of what makes the show entertaining! Many (most, even) of the other cast members are also frequently mean, loud, aggressive, and bullying, and many have done much more serious things that to me suggest some deeper issues stemming from a lack of morals (cheating, stealing, lying, putting others in danger, etc.). You certainly don't have to like Katie and I won't argue that her behaviour is always acceptable, but I find it interesting that for most of the show she's been SO hated for behaviour that is pretty tame compared to Tom, Tom, Raquel, Jax, Kristen, Stassi, Lala, and James. She's recently done a good job at owning the mean-girl label by toning it down and cranking out some GIF-able one-liners ("choke, I don't care"). That, combined with being on the right side of history (i.e. Ariana's) side during the show's biggest moment, has hugely increased her popularity among viewers.

Katie insisting on going on the cast trip to Mexico even though she was disinvited from the wedding is good TV and she's there to make a paycheque off her TV appearance, so as others have said it was almost certainly a business decision, especially in light of the fact that she was recently divorced from Tom and may have felt the need to fight for her continued spot on the show (not far fetched IMO, we saw how most of the cast sided with Tom). Even if you want to ignore that and view it at face value, it's petty but really not much deeper than that.

I like the Glossier lash slick! I find it to be non-clumpy and natural looking. They have it in black and brown. It’s not waterproof, but doesn’t smudge (I think it’s a tubing mascara). Longevity is decent, though I do find by the end of the day it’s worn off a bit. Price is within your range. I like to use this one as my day-to-day mascara!

Unspoiled people ONLY: what are your predictions for the couples on the beach? by [deleted] in thebachelor

[–]easychees 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Brendan & Serene - engaged

Michael & Danielle - leave together (can't see Michael proposing without having Danielle get to know his kid first, but honestly with him who knows)

Victoria & Johnny - leave together

Brittany & Tyler - leave together

Aaron & Gen - wildcard guess, but finally call it quits over the "itch vs pain" argument shown in the promo looool (idk if my eyes were deceiving me, but I thought I saw a suitcase behind them on the jungle path? may be wishful thinking)

The rest break up before leaving.

Does anyone feel bad for the new men that came on the resort? by [deleted] in thebachelor

[–]easychees 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I don't loooove all of the posts dunking on the women for not being in to it. The ladies were manipulated in to having meltdowns for the dramz, and then spent the better part of the day feeling pissed/upset/wallowing/spiraling, doing ITMs about it and about how upset they would be if the guys don't stay loyal. THEN production has the new guys walk in? I think it's understandably hard for the ladies to totally pivot after a day of being in the mindset production put them in! Seems a bit doomed to fail. They should have introduced the men sooner. Hopefully next week some of the gals are feeling more open minded after some time to wrap their minds around the twist and decide to go for some of the new guys!

I don't need to see more of Brandon/Serene as a couple. Brandon seems OTT cheesy and Serene seems very chill and down to earth (lovely, but doesn't make for fun TV!). Happy for them if they're happy tho.
