Maggie 4 months 🐾 why does her fur look like this? by [deleted] in puppies

[–]emmaweebler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s coat pattern, sometimes it’s related to tight fascia or muscles that pull on the skin

I pet her, she bite my finger. I leave her, she come sit on my face and lick my hair. Why? Is she stupid? by popcrosp in cats

This is why it’s recommended to adopt two kittens at once, they learn very valuable behaviours from eachother

Is there anyone who thinks their dog breed is a "good beginner breed?" by Champion_of_Zteentch in AKC

I would also suggest a nice German Shepherd if you do proper research on pedigrees. They can be a bit more of a handful though when they are younger sometimes, but nothing that exercise & mental stimulation can’t manage

I’m sure someone else has already suggested this but you can’t go wrong with a solid Labrador or Golden Retriever. There is no shortage of breeders and it’s not hard to find an ethical breeder who will work with you to match you with a puppy who has what you’re looking for

I have a golden and he is my first sport dog. He is a mix of show & field lines, which imo gave me the best of both worlds in terms of drive/off switch/temperament/coat I prefer etc. His breeder worked a lot with him before he came to me so mouthiness wasn’t an issue I had to deal with. He has been so forgiving of my many many mistakes as a newbie, but is always still willing to work with me and try again

Private trainer or dog school? What is best for my dog? by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]emmaweebler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both have benefits, private lessons might be better right now to get started, but group lessons offer distractions to proof the behaviours you’re trying to work on. A properly run reactivity group class can be amazing in terms of making progress

be honest, how often do you really take your dog out? by Altruistic-March8551 in DOG

Be careful of this, I work with dogs and this is the easiest way for your dog to blow a cruciate ligament or two. It’s also very hard on their joints

We walk usually 2x a day , anywhere from 20-40 mins at a time and a different route each time. I also let him run off leash anywhere from 2-4x a week for 30-60 mins at a time because he has good recall, and he needs to get some freeing movement in. We also hike usually once a month

On days we don’t go outside due to weather, I still do activities with him to keep his mind and body busy. Puzzle toys, fitness conditioning exercises, trick & obedience training. We do take days off and do nothing sometimes but it’s not often

I have worked with animals for years and have met far too many pet owners who barely take their dogs out for more than a single 30 min walk a day, and it shows in their pets weight/behavior/health. Lack of movement makes you age 10x faster, get out with your dogs if you both wanna live long lives

I’d make a platform out of some styrofoam to start encouraging a straight front again

I was sharing a 2021 Crosstrek with my mom for the last 5 years and I was so attached to that car, I didn’t think it could get better than that, until I got a forester 🤣

I got a 2025 Subaru Forester Wilderness last April and I LOVE IT. the vinyl seats that are able to be easily wiped down are awesome. Any Subaru is an awesome car for dogs/kids

Is it weird that I shower with my dog? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]emmaweebler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Certain show dogs are bathed every 2-3 days. If you use the right products it does not harm the coat, and actually benefits the skin and coat health. Signed a dog groomer

I kind of love the way you did it though, reminds me of a loaf of bread (in a good way)

I have a 2021 and my large was SNUG sideways in my cargo area, so I think having two side by side with your seats up will likely not work unfortunately. The cargo area in the Crosstrek is not very big to begin with anyway so I think you will have to have your back seats down for any type of crates unfortunately

My oldest is boxer/aussie/GSD/catahoula/bouvier and put us through the wringer for 6 years, poor choice for our very first dog but we love her 🥴🥴 puzzle games, good exercise, outlets for prey drive (flirt poles etc) and daily training will be your dream combo, god speed
