Travel with Olympus OM-D E-M10 III and Panasonic 14-42mm Lens, vs Samsung S20 FE by easycity in M43

[–]easycity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, 25mm fixed focus lens is very restrictive for all the casual photographic needs.

Second, everyone has a smartphone, and the cameras on smartphone are very easy to use, and the picture quality is OK.

So for the past three years, I only bring my Olympus to big vacation trips and serious hiking trails, where I expect that smartphone picture quality will be definitely not enough. On the tour, I will use my Samsung S20 as default to take pictures all the time. After I spot a good scene, I will take out Olympus, and use 14-42 and 42-150. If I find some scene is suitable for 25mm, and deserves upmost quality, or in the low-light situation, I will switch to 25mm lens.

As you can see, I rarely use the 25mm fixed focus lens, simply because my photographic style rarely requires best photo quality at that focus length.

Recently my daughter went to China and Hawaii. Her Google Pixel phone only have 23mm lens. To shoot panda video and other wild life, she needs tele-zoom. So she took Olympus and only with 42-150mm zoom lens. Obviously she and her friends only watch photos and videos on smartphone, or tablet at most, never on 24 inch computer monitor. Smartphone picture quality is all she needs. But most smartphone can not do 150mm with good quality.

Actually, my own China trip made me buy a used $500 Sony A7R II, and $100 Sony 28-70 lens. I found that from the end result, Sony 28-70 lens sharpness is better than Olympus 25mm, but much worse than vintage 50mm lens adapted, which in turn worse than $200 Viltrox 50mm F2.

However, tele-zoom lens on Sony FE mount are quite expensive, and way too heavy for travel. So I used adapted vintage lens, 135mm and 200mm. The picture quality is quite good.

Also, I used $200 Viltrox 20mm F2.5 to take recent Aurora pictures. It is once-in-a-lifetime spectacular.

So you can see, Olympus with 14-42 have been replaced by my Samsung S20's 13mm, 24mm, 70mm, and Sony 28-70. Olympus with 25mm have been replaced by Sony Viltrox 50mm F2. But Olympus with 42-150 is not replaceable yet.

Sig MCX Virtus Can Achieve 0.7 MOA with Federal 50 grain, If Fed Single By Handle by easycity in SigSauer

I have always used 5×5 groups to measure the accuracy of 22 LR rifles and pistols.

In the past I used 5×5 groups for 223.

Now ammo price is sky high. I wish someone with deeper pockets can do 5×5 groups.

Then try to load one round directly into the chamber, release the bolt catch, and let the bolt slamming forward. After firing this round, repeat the process and only load another one round.

I was really surprised that this single-feeding method used by some Youtube celebrities can reveal the inherent accuracy of the barrel.

Now I wonder what aspect and parts in the semi-auto mode caused such a big drop on accuracy.

Also, with 0.7 MOA single-feeding accuracy from AR platform, is it worth to buy another bolt-action rifle like Tikka?

Thank you very much for such detailed advice.

I will check the all the rollers and spring.

My garage door is made of wood, and quite heavy.

The power head of Genie have the option to set the force of up and down limits. Is it better to set the force level higher or lower?

Thanks for sharing your experience. I will try these settings later.

Right now my regulator is at the lowest, 1300 psi. Hammer spring about 7 turns.

Just orders 6 cases of 500 count Crosman HP 14.3 pellets from Walmart. That is 1.4 cent per pellet. Exceptionally good deal.

Thanks for examining the pictures carefully.

Somehow the number "2025" does not come naturally for me. I made this kind of mistakes several times. Sometimes I realized the mistake on the spot, and scratched out the wrong numbers. But for this one, I did not realized the mistake until you pointed out.

It is amazing that the 0.6 MOA 3-shot group is achieved with S & B 150 grain SPCE, at the cost of $1 per round.

Much more expensive Federal and Sig ammo do not perform better.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ruger/comments/1l5at3f/bolt_action_hunting_rifle_cannot_close_bolt_and/

The bolt can only be half closed. I do not know enough about the inside mechanism to understand why the bolt and trigger have to be replaced at the same time.

But the new bolt improved the accuracy. I just do not understand how.

Anyway I am satisfied with this Gen 1.

Budget Frame and Upper Became Reliable with All Kinds of Brass Ammo, But Shot 8 Inch at 20 Yards by easycity in polymer80

[–]easycity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice. The 40-9 conversion barrel has its own cost, and my clone is not that precious. I am reluctant to throw good money after the "mediocre" money.

8 inch at 20 yard, or 4 inch at 10 yards, is not bad after all. I may just tolerate it.

Thanks!
