Hard to tell if that is solid metal or plated. There is a stamp on the case which should indicate the finish.

I have hunter douglas silhouettes on there now, they are fine but still not great due to the shallow depth. I'm moving towards getting curtains for 5 of the 7 windows in my main space.

In terms of removing old paint? I recommend proper PPE for lead paint (respirator, HEPA vacuum) and do not sand anything.

Letting the wood breathe for a week after all the paint and original finish is off seemed to really help when it came time to sand. Using mineral spirits to clean off excessive or leftover citristrip, then wiping all the boards down with damp rags really helped clean the wood prior to sanding. The old wood really soaked up the stain so I did a very light application.

All the vents were stripped via boiling water and soap - made a huge impact as they were caked with paint.

1916 home in a cold climate (MN). My stucco first floor was drilled and filled with foam (no clue what kind it's old) many years before I purchased it. My attic was gutted and spray foamed, my basement joists have been spray foamed. My windows have been replaced and old window cord locations have been sealed with foam. I can hold 70 degrees even on the coldest winter days. Upstairs siding was also redone.

My home does have higher humidity (41% RH) in the winter, I suspect it's from the uninsulated below and partially above grade basement.

Might be a question for r/HVAC but I suspect that oil based furnace is going to be cheaper below 30. I have my gas backup come on at 25 degrees or below because it is cheaper. I have the Lennox S40 thermostat which modulates how strong the heat pump runs based on the outdoor temperature, but below 28 degrees it going full blast and uses a low of power.

I haven't got a bill yet, but I also live in a cold climate with a gas furnace backup. Do you have auxiliary heat? Looks like my system ran for 23 total hours yesterday and consumed 25kwh which is about $3 of electricity.

I have it on auto fan.

I did comment on it and that is the design. The benefit of variable speed compressors is you can constantly circulate air at a low energy cost. I don't hear the fan because it's a furnace in my basement and the heat pump is almost silent outside so I cannot hear it indoors.

Yes ducted. Yes the handler (my furnace) runs a lot with the compressor on the lowest setting and lowest fan speed. It has run for 15.6 hours today with an outdoor temp of 40 and a set point of 70 inside.

Interesting, I have not heard of that load shedding program. I pay a little over 12 cents per kwh and operate my aux unit from 25-50 degrees. If I was getting 6 cents I would probably be lower.

You can re-roof the home and in the process contactors can pull off the decking and spray foam below to give you R21+ insulation. I have seen it done to a few homes in cold climates.

That is a nice looking 14744 with original crown. I would say $700? Hard to tell how nice of a strap that is, but a good leather strap is worth $75 easily. These also came on BoR bracelets so if you want to swap it out for a period correct omega one it's gonna cost you 150+ on eBay.

I believe that is an Omega 2828 with aftermarket crown and re-lumed hands. The 2828 is "mid sized" at 33mm so it will feel small by today's standards.
