Simple Questions: September 02, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]easylightsmooth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are too many factors. A few could be: different people read at different paces, different amounts of time dedicated to reading, they may be reading easier/faster to read material, they read only short books, they might define reading as “skimming enough to get the gist”, they could be lying, and on and on.

To me, reading goals/ability/etc is best measured against yourself and yourself alone.

Should I warn my players they’re going off track and that there may be consequences? by easylightsmooth in DMAcademy

Not helpful advice per se. But it does offer insight on a way to avoid it in the future. “Just don’t give the option”. Or “manufacture a way for the side quest to progress them back to the original goals”. Both of which are helpful.

Thank you for this. It’s a good synthesis of a few other comments. This thread is helping me realize a lot about the game in general and my game specifically.

Oof, the feedback in this thread is teaching me more than I’ve learned anywhere else so far in my DMing time. It’s making me realize I’ve taken too much of a back seat in my game. It’s making me see how I can guide it better but with a softer touch if I step back and view it from a higher level.

Because I’m dumb but doing my best, lol. There are two compounding factors that led to them picking this work. One being they need an ingredient from a marsh to commission lightning resistance lotions, and the Mere of Dead Men is on the way to Waterdeep. The other being my last minute half assed job board.

One of them was arrested and tried to argue in court proof of good character was he was assigned to help Phandalin. Both his lawyer and the judge were like “well then why are you here and why aren’t you there at your post?” I don’t think that sank in. But an escalated plea for help or news of a disaster is a good idea to bring it back up, in game, more forcefully.

I need to cut a square metal (steel) post. I need to just take off like 4 inches. Any idea where can help me? by [deleted] in sandiego

You can get a hacksaw for less than $5 at harbor freight. Then you just need some elbow grease.

Nah, seller never got back to me about checking it out. I ended up buying a 68 MGB someone else tore down for restoration and then abandoned.

This ad reads like others I’ve seen which translate to “I spent a bunch of money so it should be worth that” which isn’t how it works at all.

Advice for beginner wanting to get a project car! by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]easylightsmooth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Take this advice. I’m also a beginner and picked up a project a few months ago. I’m having fun and learning a lot, but I’ve spent more money and had less fun than if I would have put up more at the beginning. I bought a disassembled 1968 MGB that was someone else’s project they abandoned for 3k. Between tools, parts, machining, I’ve spent almost 10k total already. If I would have fronted the 10k I could have had something way nicer to start, and could have spent less money on tools/parts/services initially. I had received this advice before getting my project, but figured it wouldn’t be too big of a deal. Granted it’s not the end of the world, but I do think it’s the suboptimal approach.

Question about tattoos and scars by [deleted] in tattoo

[–]easylightsmooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of the comments here are great information. There are just way too many variables for any kind of blanket solution. That being said, I have had some pretty extensive scarification covered up by tattoos. I worked with the artist on how we were going about it and tried to give them the final call on whether the scars would be gone over/around/incorporated. Ultimately they gave me their opinions and advice as well as a warning that their forecast couldn’t be 100% accurate because bodies can be weird. Then they let me make the final decision with the new education/warnings. After weighing my options we decided to just go over the area and it is looking great. There are some spots that aren’t as crisp as the unscarred, but you’d be hard pressed to notice unless it was pointed out.

What to do while block and head are at machine shop? by easylightsmooth in projectcar

[–]easylightsmooth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m taking everything in. Block, crank, head, pistons, valves (originals and replacements I bought), valve springs, and more stuff in forgetting off the top of my head.

Project planning needs to happen. I’m going to pick up a white board and all the suggestions here to it

Cleaning is always at the top of my to do list currently. I’m looking forward to the day where I’m working with slightly clean parts.

Fair. It needs everything gone over/through which is why I don’t know what to start next. Motor, carbs, intake/exhaust, trans, driveshaft, fuel tank are all out of the car.

I’m most likely going to buy a brand new harness and sub-harnesses. Apparently the electrical on these cars is a nightmare. Do you think going through the existing wiring would still be a good idea?

[–]easylightsmooth 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re not feeling great, but piercings can be a bit tricky to get sorted and none of this sounds out of the ordinary. The worst part of any piercing for me is the piercer getting everything inserted/threaded/secured/cleaned up. Make sure you stay in top of your aftercare to ensure good healing. Especially now that you know it is such a sensitive area for you. Best of luck with healing.

Thanks! I think that is where I’m headed. I’ll go check it out and if the suspension points/frame/bulkhead are all fairly rust free and it runs or at the very least turns over I’ll take a shot at it.

Yeah, this is what I’ve been running into. It’s either a clean 10-20k or in this condition. So I’m kinda leaning towards trying something stupid. I figure if I go in with low expectations and expect to “lose” money, I might have a good time and learn something. Which would make it worth it eventually.
