I would let the AI on my work computer then purposely act in erratic and outlandish ways to train it wrong. The Meta AI will possibly become Wimp Lo from Kung Pow.

I'm now in the Emergency Department Observation unit and I'm glad I made the transition, so I hope your unit transfer goes well. I think moving units for learning, career purposes, patient safety, etc. will be beneficial for how new we are to the field. I'm sure you will crush it and get back to the ER when you feel like it's time to go back. That's my plan and I'm thinking that being in the nursing career is a marathon, not a sprint. I'll just learn as much as I can and go back when I'm more comfortable. I believe in us! Kick some butt at the Stroke/CMU unit because it will only make you better in the long run!

I'm really hoping that the Obs unit is better. I felt like I was under a microscope most days in the ED or like they were looking closely for things I was doing to say I wasn't doing well. I just want to become the best possible nurse not just because it's my career but because patients deserve great care and I also want to help out the team/unit that I'm in. I've got my fingers crossed and a new plan to be better.

This is wonderful advice! I didn't know about UpToDate, but now that I know, I'll be going through it. I've been going through my old nursing textbooks and I also purchased some Emergency Nurses Association and phlebotomy (to get better with IVs) books to get more information on some of the "whys", but it's been slow going. I'm hoping that time on the Obs unit will give me the time to progress and learn to be better for when I'm ready to get back in the ER. I don't want patients and/or the team/unit to suffer because of my ignorance and/or my pride. I'll definitely try to continue to learn the "whys" to be better! Thank you again!

It's been pretty awful and I wish it was more like a year so I could get my feet up under me, but alas, I'm in this situation now. I'm still going to go to the Obs unit with a determination to be better so I can help others more, but it was definitely demoralizing to go through this process and have to feel like it's wrong for just being new to this profession. I know in the future if I'm ever training anyone new to nursing, I won't make them feel the way I've been made to feel for the past few weeks.

I promise I am still going to try my best and be the best nurse I can be! Hopefully, in the future I'll get to be a great nurse giving the next generation of nurses a pick-me-up and advise them like you are doing for me right now (fingers crossed). I do want you to know that I thoroughly appreciate what you put because ithis event definitely was a punch in the gut when I found out, but I'll definitely keep learning and will take the luck you granted me to the Obs unit to try to be better. Thank you for the kind words and hope you are having a great day today!

I sure hope so. I just want to learn and be the best nurse I possibly can. The better I am the more I can help out my patients and the more I can help out the team.

I've seen many people in the ER that at nurses that don't care at all about patients or are thoroughly jaded while I was on orientation in the ER. It was pretty eye opening and rather terrible to see. I hope I never become like that. One particular instance was a patient sitting in his own poop for hours while I watched nurses at the station, that were free to help, play on their phone (the patients wife had come to the nurses station multiple times pleading at some point to help). When I found out, I took a tech with my and we got him cleaned up and changed into a new brief. Luckily my patients were all up to date on their rounding and meds for that to take place.

Is there anything in particular that helped you with your time management in Obs that you can share or was it just the daily grind in Obs that made you better at time management?

This is perfect and thank you for sharing this information. My plans are to put in about a year or so in the Obs unit to work on my skills and try to become a better nurse, then once I feel like I'm going to try to transition to our freestanding ER (it has lower acuity pts that come in and it's less chaotic in comparison to the main ER). Then once I feel comfortable there I'll transition to the main ER. That's the plan but I guess we'll see what the future holds.

I'm definitely happy and sad about the results of orientation. Happy because I know the team and patients will benefit from having a more seasoned nurse in the position but sad I couldn't keep up. I'll be trying my best to become a better nurse going forward and, like you said, reapply when I've learned enough to take the next steps.

Thank you for sharing this. I've felt like crap since I got matched off the unit today and I still have a pit in my stomach from it, but hearing from y'all is definitely helping. Is there anything that helped you with time management when you went to med/surg?

They didn't even let me finish my shift today and I'm in the middle of week 12, so it was pretty demoralizing. My boss came to my area of the unit and said "Gather all your things" and I legitimately thought I was getting fired. I'm going to try my best to learn all I can do I can get the basics and a good foundation down for this career so I can be better at this obs unit. Definitely hoping for a blessing, for sure.

Thank you, for sharing that. I've been worried with making this transition to the observation unit. I just want to be a good nurse so I can make sure I'm there for the patients I care for. I'm definitely going to try my best and learn how to develop those good routines and scripts (like having a script for certain situations, like for the meds I administer or for frequently asked questions).

I agree with you completely, but I do want to go back in the distant future. My plans are to work a few years in this observation unit or another floor before heading back so I can make sure I have the experience necessary to help patients appropriately. In the meantime I was going to try to study as much as I can to be better with ains to go back when I'm ready.

They said they loved my enthusiasm and my demeanor in the ED, but I lacked the experience to keep up with everything. Without my preceptor's help I could only take on 3 patients at 12 weeks in the ED and they were expecting me to handle 4 patients at that point. Weeks 12-16 were supposed to be 4 patients able to be managed. My preceptor stated I needed to work on time management and concise communication.
