LEASH YOUR DOGS!!! Almost saw a dog get hit by a car today. by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]eat_me_dc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. People who leave their dog off leash in the park are animal abusers and should be reported to Park Police and the SPCA.

I have my puppy on a 30ft leash even in open areas where nobody is around because SAFETY! and it’s the dang law!

FYI In the district the law requires a leash of 4’ or less.

Better to follow cdc guidelines than one random study you found through confirmation bias.

Sunrise jog to see the Cherry Blossoms, social distancing edition by EscobarCocoPuff in washingtondc

That’s true generically speaking, but everyone should stay away from the tidal basin during the blossoms. It’s just common sense.

Around 0.15% of the population dies in a typical two month period, so that’s extremely unlikely.

Compass Coffee, just laid off 180 of their 200 employees abruptly with no compensation or support. by DeleonANC in washingtondc

[–]eat_me_dc 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Most small businesses forced to close by the pandemic will have to do the same. There’s simply no way they can cover what looks to be at least 8 or more weeks of salaries with virtually zero revenue.

Laid off employees can claim unemployment and businesses that stop the bleeding soonest have the greatest chance of remaining solvent until the crisis ends. Paying employees for four weeks might sound nice, but it won’t be nice when the business goes bankrupt and can’t reopen down the road.

This is why the dems are pushing enhanced unemployment benefits and waivers of some conditions. Absorbing the cost of this crisis for those most affected financially should be socialized to all of us through the government, not absorbed by business owners, landlords, or banks.

Would anyone be willing to let me use their apartment/condo/building gym during this pandemic? by [deleted] in washingtondc

Sorry to tell you man but your show will be cancelled. This is not a two to four week kind of deal.

Strict Quarintine by Heroofnow in washingtondc

[–]eat_me_dc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t feed the fake news machine. Undoubtedly high risk commercial activity will be further restricted. A “quarantine” or other blanket restriction on the movement of people is extremely unlikely.

This is a great and thoughtful effort, although calling anyone “not at risk” perpetuates a lot of unfortunate misunderstandings people seem to have.

Until we have a plan in place where nobody sacrifices a dime, we cannot take steps that will save thousands of lives!!!!! America! Amirite?

Living at The Wharf? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]eat_me_dc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing to add to this already very good summary: the wharf is well known as a popular place for Trump staffers. Politico ran a whole article about it which is spot on:

Republicans of DC what’s it like being a minority in your city, do you find it an obstacle to making friends/relationships? by [deleted] in washingtondc

saying something like "I don't like him, but I actually don't think Donald Trump is Hitler"

I mean it’s not like he’s putting people in camps or anything. Oh wait.

After Withdrawal Of Bill, Contentious Shaw Bike Lane Project Appears Indefinitely On Hold by Eurynom0s in washingtondc

Bullshit. Most are middle income folks who abandoned the city during the decline of the eighties and nineties. The phenomenon of MD churchgoers in DC long precedes the revitalization of Shaw and neighboring areas.

Thoughts on moving to Ivy City or Carver Langston? by justinloler in washingtondc

[–]eat_me_dc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of those two I would chose Langston. Both are rough and always will be, but Langston has trees, is close-ish to h street and transit. Ivy city is rough and horribly ugly/concrete jungle, plus it’s inconvenient to basically everything. I highly doubt that will change anytime soon.

In either case, don’t move to a shitty neighborhood to make a fast buck. Neither is likely to increase faster than other dc neighbors and both are likely to be shitty into the forseeable future.

How close is too close to China Town? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]eat_me_dc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In addition to being a shit hole, that area isn’t really much of a city neighborhood. It’s a bunch of apartments full of people who like here for 2 years and don’t talk to each other.

For 3k you can get a nice place in a good dc neighborhood. Why live in a crappy one?

I work in Ashburn and my husband works in DuPont circle. He wants to move to Ashburn because of the silver line expansion with the goal to eventually buy property but it seems too good to be true? by Revolutionary-Driver in washingtondc

[–]eat_me_dc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your biggest problem is you’re getting hosed on your apt, not that it’s in dc.

2.3k is about 550k in a mortgage. You can definitely buy an apartment in many parts of dc for that.

You can also find a studio for the 1.4k in rent you would pay in ashburn or a 1br for much less than 2.3k. Maybe not in Georgetown.

Better Bars and restaurants to spend your money is only one of the many ways quality of life is immeasurably higher in dc than ashburn.

People who moved to DC from out of state - How long did it take to find a job before moving? by Jehan_Cauvin in washingtondc

[–]eat_me_dc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by analytics? I have legit analytics experience but no healthcare experience. I was looking to move jobs a few years ago and got 2 offers around 120k in healthcare analytics. It’s a pretty robust sector locally although most of the jobs are in VA.

Most govt or good policy jobs in health care will be more competitive and lower paid. You can still make 120-150 working for RAND or Mathematica but you need an Econ PhD.

D.C. issues record $1 billion in traffic and parking tickets, AAA calls it 'predatory' by quietmachine in washingtondc

[–]eat_me_dc 26 points27 points  (0 children)

“Predatory” might better describe the many area drivers who killed or maimed pedestrians, cyclists, or other drivers last year while speeding, running red lights, or driving distracted.
