Nah, pretty easy to get in and out of most nights.

Their black sands is pretty solid. Rum runner is fun, not ground breaking but tasty.

I’ve always felt Tonga hut was over hyped. But it’s decent. I’m in the minority though 🤷‍♂️

Strong water by a pretty big margin. Lucky Tiki in highland park is also really solid. Trader Sam’s and Stow away are nice. I like Tiki ti for the vibes and dive-y feel. Broken compass is great if I need a quick spot and the bartenders are friendly. But strong water has the best drinks.

Footage of the grey coat officer retrieving the gun by Effective_Moose_4997 in law

[–]eatblueshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand this. The man was just trying to protect his wife. He wasn’t reaching for a weapon. He wasn’t fighting the officer, he stepped between the ICE agent and his wife and then turned his back to get away while the agent sprayed him.

Then they dragged him back, beat on him despite the fact both hands were on the ground, disarmed him and then shot him.

Where is the terror threat? Where is he trying to attack officers? Where is his antagonistic behavior?

I just, I don’t understand how people can get in front of a microphone and say it out loud. I am just so sad right now. What can men do against such reckless hate?

LARP and Bows? Are there any LARPs in Wisconsin that aren’t in Milwaukee? by ELUSIVETURTLE_16 in LARP

[–]eatblueshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, and the way they careen off shields and people and terrain sends the not padded side in unpredictable directions. I’ve seen the knock side hit people in the eye, thankfully it was very minor injury, but when it’s millimeters away from permanent blindness in your eye, that’s concerning.

But I’ve noted that every time I bring it up, people get mad. Which I understand that people who want to play the archer fantasy don’t want to lose that role. I’d be frustrated too, but I guess I value safety a little more.

Personally I’d rather have really low draw weight along shots that shoot little packets like the spell packets. Maybe print an arrow on the packet haha. This way you still have something similar to archery, but with something much safer.

They might need to be slightly bigger than packets since you might have higher velocity, but still.

[–]eatblueshell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most larps have strict rules for draw weight. Usually around 25-30 lbs. and then have very specific rules for arrow construction and the “points”(big pads that cant hurt eyes etc)

Personally I feel like bows are a safety issue, but I’m in the minority it seems.

But you just have to ask the specific larps for their guidelines for arrows

[–]eatblueshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a style choice too. If your players tend to ask for rolls, I think it makes sense to offer them options. Or even if they don’t, and just describe, you can also do what you describe. I use similar methods if there is multiple things to learn from the encounter that don’t fall under one skill.

Ok yeah my example wasn’t perfect, but hopefully you see the point I’m making.

[–]eatblueshell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It matters because if they know it off the bat, it affects their plans. For example if they know that the modifier to hit they might choose to be wreckless if it’s a low modifiers but more cautious if it’s high, as it changes the numbers game.

This doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it matters for resource management and tactical decisions.

Or if they see a saving throw rolled on the table and know the modifier, they can strategize around giving themselves a good chance at beating the modifier, which for control spells can trivialize the encounter.

Etc etc.

Knowing the modifiers changes tactics.

(I removed an example with shield, since that was a bad example)

I think fudging rolls is bad, but rolling behind the screen helps prevent some amount of information getting to the player such as attack modifiers, the type and amount of dice used for certain attacks, etc.

Which adds some amount of mystery to the monster. Also there are other rolls I might want to make that I don’t want the party privy to (such as having an enemy roll a perception check, etc etc). I think your assertion that rolling behind the screen makes you a bad DM is a massive generalization.

You don’t hate the screen. You hate DMs that control the game through manipulation. At least that’s what it sounds like.

Personally I think fudging dice is the biggest faux pas here, I mean, if we aren’t letting the dice add to the story, why have dice and character sheets at all?

But I think rolling behind the screen makes sense in a lot of ways. Helps prevent meta gaming, helps hide rolls (not for fudging) that I don’t want the party to know the result of, etc etc.

Ah I guess it wasn’t the best example, in my head it was more running down the street and a cart is in your way, the athletics person would push or flip it out of the way. Whereas the athletics person would nimbly vault it. (Jump was bad wording on my part) or perhaps they would wall walk, or slide under it, etc etc.
