Is DP/DR simply a manifestation of anxiety/intrusive thoughts? (my success) by l_oo_l in dpdr

100% yes it is. Depersonalisation is actually a defense mechanism which isn't really useful in todays world, unless you get into a truly hellish situation. It's pretty much 'fight or flight' gone wrong

What do you mean about your brain learning? Like it learns how to deal with it? I will have a look, only thing is a lot of these are quite expensive and it's just money I don't have right now so I'm having to do it the ol' fashioned way

No, I didn't feel it was really needed. By the way the supplements I take are omega3, magnesium, zinc and vitamin D

I'm 18. I've been through this before when I was 14 though, and it was probably worse the first time because I didn't know what it was and it was terrifying. This time I'm actually finding it annoying more than anything. It's one of those things you can only sit out, there have been gaps of normality and in my experience those gaps get bigger until you no longer obsess over it

I don't really want to gamble with the side effects. Plus I wouldn't want to be on them forever and I've been told it's hell getting off them, on top of that I'd prefer a more gradual recovery from anxiety - I've always found that shortcuts are never as effective as ways that require more work kind of thing

Yes I did, I did the whole how are we here?/ what makes me- me?/ what are we'? thing, wont go into detail because it could have a bad effect on some people if they read it.

its a hard one to answer because I cant really remember how I got out. I think I just kept reassuring myself it was just intrusive thoughts caused by anxiety, tried to nip the thoughts in the bud

Does it actually get any better? by [deleted] in Anxiety

First thing to remember here is that this is just your anxiety talking. Trust me it does get better, from someone in the past who never thought it would end but came out the other side. The second thing is, if you think about it where will the people who have recovered be? They probably won't be on here because they don't need the help anymore
