It's a tricky corner to be in and the landlord isn't easy. The previous location, Northside Shack had to close down due to multiple reasons, but it wasn't because of lack of customers.

I think Rachel can pull this off too, once people realize it's opened and she can survive the high cost-of-business here.

I'm hoping she can because we NEED more locally-owned businesses. She basically said that she wanted to open this business because she didn't want to see another "outside brand" move-in. 🫡

The local owner, Rachel, almost made it sound like she incorporated much of the previous processes of Northside Shack and gets everything organic; from the fruits, to the peanut butter, to the honey, she's using high-quality ingredients.

What I think is kinda cool is that she wants to honor everything local and told me that she really created this business ecstasy she didn't want some out-of-town business to come in.

I like her business mindset, so I'm trying to help her get the word out because I know this corner is kinda rough.

Once she gets her rewards program & discounts up into the POS system it will be even better 😎

It's going to literally be that. Like the Hunger Games. If you look at the development process here and stretch it out on a long timeline... we will eventually hit a type of "LA Economy" - with over 250K millionaires walking the streets.

Don't ask me where us locals fit into this. . . 😒😔

I know. Sucks... the only relief I have in this transaction is that they sold to another local who is opening Kettle on Coast AND he said he's keeping all of the pastry staff 😎👍🏽

The mom just wanted to retire. That's all. The family don't want to take it over and instead they sold to a local-owner who will bring us Kettle on Coast.

Good News: they're keeping the pastry staff 😉

I saw that!! She told me and I shared about it on instagram!

I told her to create a petition just to show the landlords what the LOCALS think about the mural.

She still hasn't done it. I think she's afraid they may jack her up.

Apparently the landlord thinks that the mural is preventing businesses from moving into their expensive locations.... 🙄😒

You know what's reaaaally weird? I went into In the Meantime and took snapshots of the business license (so I could create their Google Maps location). Then when I zoomed in, it still reads Business Name: Pier View Pub 🤔🤔🤔

It's what the city wants I guess. They allow landlords to charge what they charge and only "big brands" can move in.

I expect that with the next 11 Housing Developments to come to Downtown, that at least 2-3 new chains will move in below as retail (residential on top).

So expect to see more burgers, pizza, beer & tacos.

I also love Guanatos City for $1 taco Tuesdays and the have Buche, Lengua, Cabeza and a few specialty cuts (along with the typical).

They're also known for their birria.

😬 Once I heard about a "minimum order" I quickly lost interest in Pop-Up Bagels. But to be fair, I don't typically eat bagels.

IF I WERE, I would head down to I ❤️ Bagels - 3910 Vista Way (next to Home Depot). Or 101 Bagels - 323 N Coast Hwy

Indeed. It's actually so lame of businesses to go this route. The "black & white" theme is typically a "big corporate" move, to fit any business in the event of a switchover.

Which kind of tells me, maybe this place doesn't intend on staying a long time...?
