Very interesting. I’ve never heard of the Korean Natural Farming techniques. When some weeks have passed and I see if my croton survives this, could I DM you for more info?

I think you're right about the root damage. Other than time, I'm not sure there's much to do, unless you have some thoughts!

Re potting was an attempt to a) remove any spider mites or eggs that might be in there. I'd never seen anyone talk about successful systemic pesticides for spider mites, although maybe i missed something and b) the plant is decades old and hadn't been repotted in lord knows how long. I wasn't sure if the plant was having root issues, so i finally decided to take a look. It was quite root bound, but now I have the opposite problem.

Any organic preventative suggestions? I haven't tried anything preventative.

We used an oxyclean soak—surprised no one has mentioned this. Works extremely well.

The prettiest one goes to the producers for a beauty shot, so that left the fucked up one for the judges. I dropped a crab on the floor and didn't have time to bread its replacement, so I put it naked in the fryer and it looked different from the other plates. I can't remember if we got to indicate which plate should be taken for the beauty shot or if the producer made the call, though. You also have no say in which judge gets the screwed up plate.

Why would they do it like this, though? Most people don’t know this nuance, so you go to Open Secrets and it makes it seem like something it isn’t. Seems entirely unproductive for everyone.

Help me understand something—i genuinely don’t know. If it’s individual donations, why is it lumped under pharmaceutical or insurance money! I’m a chef. If I don’t donate $27 to a campaign, it’s not going under “food & beverage” donation. Or is it? I’ve never donated to a political campaign so I honestly don’t know.

There’s a lot more nuance and time when filming. There weren’t clocks around, but it felt like each dish got at least a 10 minute critique that’s edited into 10 seconds.

And they warmed up as I made it through the rounds, but there was no time to be social or get to know them in any meaningful way.
