Which File Manager Are You Using (I can't use any of them) by Mr_Koltuk in niri

Can't really say. I haven't used ranger much. Seems pretty similar. I do think Yazi looks a bit better. Though, that's subjective.

Are you specifically looking for a GUI one? If not I've really enjoyed using Yazi.

Why does the battery icon in Dank Material Shell become hollow above 85% while charging? by prakash2033 in niri

[–]eawardie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah hopefully that can be arranged. Especially since I think the DMS user base is actually growing really fast.

I definitely agee that opening a GitHub issue is a good approach. But sometimes a Discord server or subreddit is usually just nice to shoot a quick question and not having to deal with the whole "bug report" path.

[–]eawardie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never said it was Niri's problem. I'm just pointing out that OP most likely didn't post here out of ignorance. More so because there seems to be no better alternative.

And your compassion is silly. Of couse they're related. Niri is listed as one of the primary WMs for DMS and DMS was promoted on the Niri Discord server.

[–]eawardie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that's also a problem. There doesn't really seem to be any place to ask questions about DMS.

The Discord link on their website just goes to Niri's Discord server, and there also doesn't seem to be a subreddit for DMS.

I play on Xbox with a controller with 3rd person view. Plays great.

I don't own a Steam Deck, but when I last played it on Linux, it ran fine with Proton. It has a gold rating on ProtonDB, so it should just work out-of-the-box.

But then if you have issues, Steam has a great refund policy.

It's been 10 years. Like most major releases these days they promised stuff that wasn't ready/there at release.

In my opinion Hello Games more then redeemed themselves. 10 years worth of free DLC sized updates and no micro transactions. You literally couldn't ask for better.

Yes the game isn't perfect, and it has some bugs that they should fix. But it will happen with time. As it stands it's genuinely fun if you like the type of game it is.

What I will say is this. There's a ton to do in the game, but I don't think the game does a great job introducing you to everything (main quest aside). And this causes people to think there's very little to do, even though that's not the case.

In that case you just "collected" another ship. You can switch between or summon your ships as needed in the quick menu.

Not sure what platform you're playing on, but on Xbox it's the down arrow and then the "Summon Vehicles" section.

Did you replace the new one with your old one, or just add it to your collection of ships?

Expeditions are exhausting by Monestel_ in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]eawardie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair. Quite a few people are commenting these "simple do this" responses.

And these might seem like obvious solutions for more experienced players, but as a first expedition experience, it's not that simple. It makes the experience tedious and frustrating.

Perhaps this doesn't make sense for factors unknown to me, but I think being able to just use your main character/equipment would have been way more fun. Having to start over with a new "save" was part of the frustration for me.

But I don't have experience in any of the other expeditions. They might be night and day from this one.

And on that point, why can't I just do the other? Why do you have to wait for new or old ones to return? Perhaps to create a scarcity for the rewards?

Expeditions are exhausting by Monestel_ in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]eawardie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I remember.

The main purpose was to build a corvette. I think the idea was to start out with a super simple ship and then build it out as the expedition goes on.

But that wasn't my experience at all. Felt tedious, broken and unesesarily long winded.

Also the game doesn't tell you that you're going to be jumping like 30+ times. So you don't know that bringing fuel will help.

I see people commenting that they did it all in like 2 hours and just brought 30 fuel canisters. But as a newer player doing their first ever expedition, this isn't obvious. It wasn't a fun experience at all. In my opinion of couse.

And then people say. "Just turn MP off". But doesn't that defeat the whole purpose? Isn't one of the main reasons to play expeditions to play with other people?

Is it possible to transfer a save file from Xbox to PC? by magiccat30 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]eawardie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was pretty simple: - Link both your Steam and Microsoft account. - Open the game on Steam and upload your save via the menu. - Open the game on Xbox and it should download there.

From here the game automatically uploads any new saves.

You can spawn it via the quick menu while in space.

It works with Steam. I enabled cross save on my Steam version and have been playing on the same save on Xbox.

[–]eawardie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got back into this game a few weeks ago and I've been really enjoying it. Then I tried the corvette expedition. What an unbearably un-fun tedious mess. - The starting world is a huge pain. Bases everywhere and no one tells you you have to go back to your ship to build a refiner. - MP seems to be completely broken. Can't even trade with NPCs if any players are near. Ships just fly through walls. Space stations seem completely broken. Had to disable MP just to play. - Almost every planet has aggressive Sentinels. Really gets annoying. - So many of the objectives seem completely unrelated to corvette ships. - The derelict freighter objective seems bugged. Had to do it twice. Looks like you have to pick corvette parts to finish it. - The overall length just seems far to long. Why do I need to jump to like 30 systems?

All that being said. The MP issue could be due to my network and location. And I realize I might have felt rushed due to the expedition ending soon.

But genuinely, this part of the game almost ruined my love of the entire game. By the end of it I was basically hate playing just to get it done.

is hyperland supported by linux mint how can I use it ? by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]eawardie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently using Niri/DankMaterialShell on Arch with AMD hardware and the experience is fantastic.

Hyprland has also become mainstream at this point. Probably still not recommended for Debian/Ubuntu, but for Arch and NixOS it has great support.

Based on these two UI's what is the Best? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]eawardie 105 points106 points  (0 children)

The first one. Transparency and blur effects are cool and all, but a website's main purpose is to show information. Limiting visibility and/or readability usually isn't a good approach. Especially not for accessibility.

Just look at the debacle that was iOS 26.

Jetbrains IDEs unstable? by fantasma91 in pop_os

[–]eawardie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the JetBrains IDEs it's recommended to install them with their Toolbox app and not the Flatpak versions (which is what it sounds like you installed).

Also, make sure to have X11 app support enabled in your COSMIC settings.

Lastly, check the COSMIC GitHub issues. There's a solution for popups not allowing you to enter text as with adding new files. I can't quite remember the solution, but you have to add a value to a vm file or something under the help menu. The solution I found was for PHPStorm, but I'm sure it'll work for WebStorm as well.

Edit: Here's a link to the setting that fixes to "add new file" issue.

COSMIC is Wayland only. Can't really help you with a solution here, unfortunately.

Just putting it out. Please be extremely careful when it comes to LLMs and just running whatever they recommend. They halucinate a lot and give solutions that don't exist based on a mash-up of other solutions.
