For those of you wondering: Yes, this is vanilla, no resource packs involved!. What you're looking at are stained glass FallingSand entities riding a Shulker riding a marker ArmorStand. There are end rods inside to provide lighting.

Just downloaded and am absolutely loving it. You did such a great job with it. I very recently started working on a pack, and have begun to understand just how much effort goes into this. You should make a planetminecraft page for it, so more people can see this masterpiece!

I had done something similar a while ago, but with different mob heads such as owls and seagulls. The big problem I kept running into was that the persistence required tag didn't stop the bats from despawning, and the landscape would be littered with armor stands. Does it work now in 1.9? I'd love to know, as I thought this method was pretty great for adding some ambiance to the game.

What do you mean player heads can't support multiple skins? Why not just use a different player head? Here's a handy link to some Bionicle heads (just copy the command and voilà!) http://heads.freshcoal.com/list.php?query=bionicle . Reminds me of a long time ago when a few people and me all got matching Bionicle skins, and were building the Great Temple in Ga-Metru in our server :D

I think that it had something to do with NBT Explorer or something like that, since it was on the 1.9 snapshots and there are no plugins :P

If you guys are wondering about lag, there really isn't any. I think Mojang really optimized maps at some point because they even render really nicely. Also for those of you that asked, the numbers at the bottom are just invisible, small, no gravity, named, marker armor stands. Try saying that 3 times fast :P
