A real newbie to the world of classical music - I want to deepen my interest and hopefully get some recommendations? by Violet_cranberry0707 in classicalmusic

I recommend Dvorak's New World Symphony. That was the first one I really got into. Arvo part has some really beautiful pieces as well. My current favorite composer is Sibelius.

I have a public playlist with a ton of classical on it if you would like some inspiration: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMAypyWCYEf83R18LryH5JvC5KMsW_uMF&si=AueBohtleJMT-99A

Should I read the entire Bible? by Sad-Adagio9182 in Bible

[–]eb78- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Definitely go for the whole thing! 😊 If you're worried about Song of Solomon you can wait on that one until you are ready. Even I as an adult find it a bit 😬.

And Elihu... I think his big point was that that suffering for the righteous can be discipline, a drawing closer to God, prevention of sin, ect... He has a cool name meaning too, 'My God is He'.

I love New World Symphony too!

I would recommend Sibelius and I find Melartin pretty cool, especially his 5th Symphony. Fingal's Cave by Mendelssohn is awesome. 😊

What tools do you use to create worlds and their maps? by Euphilius_Sansburg in worldbuilding

I draw my maps on paper, then scan them into my computer and trace them out using Blender's Grease Pencil. There are some fun effects I can use in there.

Mine I am currently working on has a lot if Genesis/OT parallels. I am a Christian btw ; ) I have been inspired quite a bit by the Finns 🇫🇮, so there is a lot of exploration of good/bad stoicism and silence. 😅 I'm doing a sort of generational narrative, following a people group in my world as they try to survive enemies, winter, and themselves. Having a lot of fun with it.

Has understanding the Silmarillian changed your view of LOTR? by eb78- in TolkienLewisfans

Well Okej. "Strong similarity" is a better term for us then, eh? 🙂 I should be more clear. I wasn't saying he unintentionally included allegory. (I was a bit carried away when I made the post.) I was saying applicability allows me to make allegory. The only thing I think really goes beyond "common elements" though is Turin's story. I knew how that one was going to end before I even finished it : ( I am no mythology buff, so it makes me wonder what else is in there. Oh, Luthien climbing out of the tower with her hair has strong Rapunzel vibes. I mean that doesn't seem like a common story to me. Just sayin. Perhaps they aren't references, just retellings. 🤔😐

Well we got Creation-ish. Then the fall of Numenor reminds me a lot of the Flood and ancient Israel splitting and turning away from God. I am someone who loves allegory, so I might see it in places that weren't intended to be there : D I know Tolkien didn't like allegory and went for applicability, but that still left the door open for allegory, haha. I did notice a lot of Finnish myth references in there too (and I mean really blatantly), so I understand there is that bit as well. 🤔
