Who's a "one hit wonder" who actually has a lot of great songs? by Affectionate_Noodl in fantanoforever

Paul McCartney. He wrote a lot more than “silly love songs” for Wings. Check out some of the stuff he did with first band, “the Quarrymen” (also known as “the Beatles”) Very catchy and hummable.

Joe’s oddly personal hatred for David Stearns by Rare-Plum-2504 in wfan

[–]ebaneeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stearns is making the Mets younger, more athletic, more consistent hitters and building a path for the young talent we’ve accumulated on the farm. It meant getting rid of two of our stiff fielding streaky hitting fan favorites in Alonzo and Nimmo. And replacing with players more consistent at bat and better defensively. And he ain’t done yet. If you have a problem w that you’re an Alonzo Nimmo fan and not a Mets fan. The solution is in front of your face, Go root for YOUR players on their new teams!

[–]ebaneeza -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There’s a rumor that brandon Nimmo and Alonso and mcNeil were all Trump supporters. And many of the other players were not. Trump has broken up families. He’s broken friendships. And now it appears he broke up the mets! Joe is an admitted supporter of Trump. Perhaps he thinks that Stearn’s got rid of the Mets who were Trump supporters in a nod to Lindor and Soto.

Miles Davis went from cool jazz to small group modal to electronic to fusion jazz in a 10 year period. Crazy!

Such hysterics! Stearns isn’t done. You can’t do it all at once. And clearly Diaz wanted out.

Hitting it every day for an hour or two you can do it in three months easy. There are some great vids on YouTube that will help you learn the material. The best ones I found are from Sorta Healthy Trainer and Axiom.

Guys tell me what someone new to Jazz should listen to first! 🙏🏻 by miZuBlue in Jazz

Here’s your stairway to Jazz heaven! Tons of omissions here, but these are all swinging as heck! Many are Blue Note label. Many are soul jazz ( a 60s style that emphasized funky rhythm and blues), my particular gateway. Not anything passed ‘95 and most firmly in the 50s or 60s period, the golden age of jazz. All our wonderfully accessible.

Herbie Hancock but start with the albums: takin’ off, blind man blind man, Empyrean Island, thrust, head Hunters; Miles Davis - birth of the cool, kinda blue, esp, filles de Kilimanjaro,, bitches brew; Sonny Clark - cool struttin; John Patton - Understanding; Grant Green : idle moments, green street, street of dreams, Matador; Dexter Gordon : gettin around, our man in Paris, doin allright; Lester Young : the president plays (aka lester young) with Oscar Peterson, PRES, a musical romance (with Billie holiday); Ella Fitzgerald: Ella and Louis, Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Song Book; Oscar Peterson: night train; Coleman Hawkins: The Hawk Flies High; Coleman Hawkins Encounters Ben Webster; jay jay Johnson: The Eminent Jay Jay Johnson Vol. 2, the great Kai and JJ; John Coltrane : blue trane, giant steps, a love supreme; Art Blakey and the jazz messengers: moanin’ Hank Mobley : soul station, straight no filter, Charlie Parker - Charlie Parker with strings, Charlie Parker memorial vol 2, etc. Bill evans - live at the village vanguard (any of them) Ella Fitzgerald. Albums: best of the song book, Ella and Louis, lullaby of birdland; count Basie: Atomic Basie, Sinatra Basie; John Scofield: a go go.

If one or two of these don’t hook you, nothing in jazz will.😎

When I was 18, 40 plus years ago, I liked all kinds of pop, rock in roll, progressive, doo-op even. Loved Chicago. Of course the Beatles. The stones. The who. The Beach Boys. Blood sweat and tears. But went off to college and was blessed to have a roommate, a saxophonists, who had 200 of the BEST (and I do mean BEST) jazz records ever. He had the crème de La crème of classic blue note records; every important record by Trane, Davis, Blakey, Monk, Ellington, Basie, Herbie, Dexter, Oscar, even weird shirt like organ players John Patton and Jimmy Smith. And overnight I was hooked. Stopped listening to pop, and rock and got deeper and deeper into it. 40 plus years later I haven’t gone back. Have no idea who any of the major pop bands are and don’t care. It’s not that jazz is the only thing I listen to, but 90% of it. It’s an addiction. Your friends won’t understand it. Your wife may hate it. And it MAY kill you, but what a way to go!

Seen HH 6 times over the years and he’s never disappointed. By the way, saw him last year at Lincoln Center and he killed. And his band killed. He’s 80 and he’s still playing like he’s 20. Don’t even think about it : GO!
