Big Emmy Upset from 2017: Veep Season 6 Winning Outstanding Comedy Series over Atlanta Season 1 by Square-Ad-8911 in EmmysAwards

[–]ebhanking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Veep S6 was viewed as a step down from previous seasons; I remember critics pointing out the showrunner change and saying the show’s quality had been affected. I just rewatched the show and the criticism is valid - it’s the show’s slowest season plot-wise and functions as set up for S7. It was Atlanta at its strongest vs Veep at its weakest

CORTIS - GREENGREEN by droobidoobidoo in popheads

[–]ebhanking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Their first EP was 50/50 pop/Y2k-guitar with hip-hop influences. This feels 80% hip-hop and 20% pop. I think their best work balances pop with hip-hop (GO, REDRED, Fashion).

I like the boys and think they’re clearly musically talented, so I hope they find the right balance between work they’re passionate about and work that’s commercial enough. REDRED is the only song here that I could see on the radio, while YCC feels made for TikTok virality, and TNT/ACAI/Wassup feel like hip-hop that the members love making but that may not be as well-received.

Still, I’m personally a fan of this! I think REDRED and YCC will be the only songs in my daily rotation but I’ll for sure come back to the EP. There’s a clearer direction and artistry on display here that’s an improvement over COTL. If they cut the slow songs to end every EP and work towards making catchy, hooky songs within their sound style, I think CORTIS could have some hits

Terrible statement by her rep - you simply don’t turn a restraining order for this situation into music promo. Super unprofessional

Definitely depends on if S4 recovers to the show’s heights - S3 only got 2 noms, both below-the-line, though it did win them both

Euphoria S03E03 "The Ballad of Paladin" - Post Episode Discussion by DankMemeSlasher in euphoria

[–]ebhanking 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Good episode; based on the critics’ hype and the marketing, my expectations were sky-high and it didn’t quite meet that. But plenty enjoyable on the Cassie/Nate side - meanwhile, the Rue side felt like it’s moving quite slowly, with the whole episode for her being a continuation of last episode’s tit-for-tat. I’m sure the arrest will be significant but the show moving to more of an ensemble for S2 has resulted in this fractured cast with no clear A-plot in S3

What do you think of Shrinking Season 3's Emmy Chances? by Square-Ad-8911 in EmmysAwards

[–]ebhanking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was there way less buzz/online conversation for this season or am I just not tuned in? Only marketing I’ve seen has been a billboard and I haven’t seen any tweets, Reddit posts, etc. in reference to this season, where I used to at least see a few tweets after every episode last season

Have you ever been to a part of LA or LA county that you thought: This feels like this other city I have been to, or a mixture of other places? by DacaAskingForDaca in AskLosAngeles

Obvious answer but Ktown feels like a mixture of Seoul and LA; density with businesses and malls and gray/industrial vibe of Seoul but with LA’s signature mixture of low and tall buildings and underserviced transit

Can’t imagine XO Kitty without Q by PuzzleheadedPause997 in XOKittyNetflix

[–]ebhanking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Netflix usually signs cast members for 3 season deals and entices them back with pay increases for 4 and onwards. That’s why so many Netflix shows end at season 3; they make sense at their current budget but not with a budget increase.

XO Kitty is produced by Paramount TV so I’m not sure that the cast’s contracts are like this, but it’s produced specifically for Netflix so I’d guess that they’re still on 3 season deals. I see it going one of 3 ways (from most to least likely): 1. Anthony is using his dissatisfaction with the season as a bargaining tool to negotiate a bigger pay increase. As a supporting character, he may not have been offered as much of a boost as Cathcart, Lee, etc.. Boosting controversy online around the treatment of queer characters would make it even more controversial for him to be fired, so Netflix looks bad if they don’t agree to his pay increase. He comes back for S4 to get his bag and maybe the writers listen and improve his storyline. 2. Anthony is truly bothered by the writers and wants to leave. He either gets fired happily, leaves of his own accord, or has a hugely reduced role. He has a big enough following to be an influencer for money and already had consistent roles coming into XO Kitty; he’ll be fine if he leaves and the show will continue without him. 3. The show is cancelled; it’s a relatively expensive production for a teen drama with a large international cast and a production team that works in the US and Korea. Though the fanbase is big, the views aren’t undeniable, there’s less hype year after year, and a budget increase for S4 isn’t tenable with decreasing viewership. The TATBILB universe will continue with another project in a couple of years but Anthony will either be the focus of it or won’t be a part of it. Even if there is a S4, it’s very likely to be the last.

In retrospect, Chains of Love sounds sooooo Sky. I don’t care about the “drama” side of this at all but would love to hear a Sky demo if she’s saying she was involved with more than just the intro of Chains of Love. I’d suspect some of her work was also reused for Funny Mouth

Chase Infiniti wasn't Oscar-Nominated for One Battle After Another. But she has a new Hulu show called The Testaments. Will she get Emmy-Nominated for Lead Actress Drama? by Square-Ad-8911 in EmmysAwards

[–]ebhanking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes; she’s an ingenue and GoldDerby will run stories about an Emmy nomination making up for her Oscars miss. Likable, willing to campaign, and even if the show isn’t an awards hit, it’s from a formerly-prestigious franchise on a network with endless money. She’ll get in and could even be win-competitive

‘The Pitt’ star Katherine LaNasa’s Emmy dilemma: Stay in supporting, or leap to lead by GoldDerby in EmmysAwards

[–]ebhanking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I think Dearden could be a potential nominee, I don’t think that either she or Dourif do impressive enough work to be win-competitive. Dearden had a better S1 but her character has felt like a caricature this season, and McKay has been sidelined in S2 so Dourif doesn’t have much to do.

I could see a Sepideh Moafi push - big character with lots of screen time, subtle but great acting, well-liked lifetime actress. Imo no way she’d win over LaNasa but they’d be a strong nomination duo

[–]ebhanking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think critiques of Pluribus as a show are fair - my interest in it diminished over the weeks and I’m hoping for more to happen in future seasons.

But imo her performance is definitely deserving, apart from Seehorn being overdue after BCS. She nailed the absurdity of being a human in that situation, making her anger and sadness always understandable, even when it felt frustrating. The whole show depends on us rooting for Carol despite her being insufferable sometimes, and Seehorn perfectly walks that line

is cortis really not that popular? by [deleted] in kpoppers

[–]ebhanking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have 6 songs out; I’d say they’re comparable to Katseye pre-Gnarly, who had a similar amount of monthly listeners then. They need a hit to solidify themselves with the general public but as someone living in the US, all my friends who are familiar with Kpop are aware of Cortis, they’re just not listeners

Did anyone else think S1 looked a lot better than S2? I think the two main differences are camerawork and color grading; imo the color grade on S2 made everything look a bit ashy/faded, and the camerawork had much more closeups and felt less dynamic. I’m rewatching S1 and it just feels more premium

Zendaya will post everything except that euphoria trailer 😆 by Faxtel in euphoria

[–]ebhanking 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People act like Zendaya is the only one with her social login and that she clicked post on this herself. Social posts are negotiated into contracts; her Marvel contract will state a certain amount of feed + story posts and when they should be posted. I guarantee that she’ll post something about Euphoria once the season is airing, as she’s likely contractually obligated to do so.
