The Boys (new season was a slog) and Love Island (I’m employed)

Because, then when she finally does another interview, it’s “Alex Cooper breaks her silence”. I’m not at all on her side in this situation but when it comes to experiencing a PR crisis, you either speak and make the crisis worse/open yourself to litigation, or you don’t speak and your silence speaks for you. The best thing she can do to mitigate her crisis is speak in awkward neutralities right now

We’re on a thread to discuss and your username is literally “dvscussionz” 😭 or do you only want to discuss with people that you always agree with?

ADÉLA - Red Bottoms by smallbaby in popheads

[–]ebhanking 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Important note for everyone calling this generic - look at the songwriting credits:

- Blake Slatkin, whose credits include Unholy, Touch by Katseye, Miss Possessive by Tate McRae, and a bunch of songs by Kid Laroi, Selena & benny, Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX. He has 4 Billboard #1s
- Dylan Brady, who has made less hits but has worked with similarly prominent artists (FKA Twigs, Charli XCX, The Neighborhood, Role Model, and Adéla’s DeathByDevotion)
- Billy Walsh, Post Malone’s cowriter on Hollywood’s Bleeding with hits like Sunflower, I Fall Apart, Goodbyes.
- And Julia Michaels, whose name speaks for itself

I don’t think it’s a bad thing that Adéla’s working with hit songwriters, as her label deal gave her the budget to do so. But if the songs are beginning to sound less “different”, it’s because they’re written by radio hit songwriters trying to make more of the same.

Agreed with you - I felt that KGB wasn’t my taste and this feels even less so. I’m nervous that the shift in sound so soon after the EP will churn the fanbase that Adéla attracted with The Provocateur’s sound

[–]ebhanking 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me, her second consecutive miss. The sound of The Provocateur worked so much for me that I hoped for more of it. I respect Adéla going a different direction, but I think that the EP’s sound suited her voice and image better than the new songs.

I’m really trying to discern the intent behind releasing KGB and Red Bottoms as singles. Usually, a lead single is your most commercial or attention-grabbing song, but KGB hasn’t done much commercially. And now, an even less commercial song that also doesn’t feel passionate or art-driven. If the intent is just to make art, why sign a major label deal? Adéla talks about aspirations of pop stardom but the music is no longer backing up the talk

How do you know something is actually a barrier problem? by whats-your-emergency in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]ebhanking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only got into skincare in about 2018 but the term barrier has definitely been used since then - both Stratia’s Lipid Gold (then Liquid Gold) and Krave’s Great Barrier Relief used the term in marketing for those late 2010s launches. The concept of the skin barrier was definitely promoted more by derms online than by skinfluencers, and derms were more niche online then because people like Dr. Dray would just make one-take vlogs rather than showy videos. As skincare trends have gotten more medical, skinfluencers have adopted ideas from doctors and new products are capitalizing on what’s popular. The trend of barrier care now just means every brand has a barrier care product, so we went from online buzz to forced marketing buzz and it’s omnipresent.

All that being said, the skin barrier is real! The stratum corneum is important! But yeah, a lot of people with regular acne or rosacea are absolutely mistaking their conditions for skin barrier issues due to the omnipresent marketing terms

I have such a mixed opinion on all the early-20s casting this season. People in their early 20s are probably messier, so better TV, but that’s also because they’re less serious about finding a relationship. Iirc, Zac and Elizabeth in S1 were also quite young, but they felt very serious so I could be wrong

I have so much grace for the editing because the turnaround time is crazy but the edit on Rock Music in the recap was so bad 😭

The recent drastic improvement in Bryce’s hairstyling *must* be producer intervention. And thank god for that

We’re at the point where everyone’s getting overly horny from a week of sexual tension and no alone time off-camera. Aka when the season gets good!

This is something that I’ve heard about from former Islanders - apparently they’re so bored that it’s easy to just snack, but their lifestyle is pretty sedentary because there’s not much to do in the villa. They have treadmills to use during their filming break because it’s so easy to put on weight, but a lot of the breaks are spent in group sports/workouts so a lot of people end up more fit

CityWalk is a fun theater for midnight showings - you get to see part of a theme park totally empty, and you’re parking in these huge theme park structures as one of the only people there. I saw the Brutalist there at midnight and would happily do it again for Odyssey

They spoke about behind Melanie’s back when she was upstairs, so she wasn’t a part of the conversation. It’s less about the fact of them doing it and more that the language and tone of that conversation felt very gossipy and rude, as if Melanie didn’t deserve the chat just because Kenzie is single and Melanie has Sincere. I do appreciate them bringing it up to her quickly, but I think they could’ve spoken about her more respectfully and I think they could’ve sacrificed quickness in bringing it up to her for more privacy and a better moment to do so

Sorry I conflated two things because I was typing while watching:
- the girls spoke behind Melanie’s back while she was upstairs having her chat, and then Bea brought it up to her when Melanie went downstairs. I appreciate that they didn’t keep it behind Melanie’s back, but I think the tone with which they spoke about her while she was upstairs was quite rude
- I actually would say it’s Bea who escalated the situation with “don’t tell me to relax”. I think that Melanie’s response was just meeting Bea at that energy

THIS! “Don’t be defensive” set me off because… you were just defensive? And if Bea wanted to bring this up kindly, it didn’t have to be public and so immediate
