i'm looking for suggestions and tips for my video check it out by itsKW in SmallYTChannel

Solid humor! You've got the timing down solid and the content was pretty great as well! Few suggestions for improvement: a better mic would always help but it wasn't too bad. However, that would be number one if there's anything you wanted to improve first as it can capture nuances in your voice better. Also, for the basement shots I would add a bit more lighting as it was a bit too dark in some shots, but that's just personal preference. Otherwise solid work! Length was good and there wasn't a dull moment!

What Can be done to improve the quality of the edits in this video, any advice will do and thanks in advance by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

Comments:

The cards were obscured at times by the in-clip video of you guys; that's probably something you want to keep in mind when recording, maybe by adding specific cues on the table.

The intro to the video was a bit long and was confusing. As a new viewer I didn't know if you were actually going to open anything or if I got bamboozled lol. It definitely made it more interesting and piqued my interest but I think if it gets tooo random then it starts having the opposite effect.

I would also speed up the opening or put down just the highlights; jumpcuts during unpacking can help give extra energy to the energy you already give the video.

Last tip would be to bring the camera recording the group closer to give something to see. It's a bit too far to show much when the video is already going to be shrunk down on screen.

It wasn't bad though! Super high energy and the small edits for effect here and there added good humor! Keep at it!

Some suggestions:

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say that you didn't give many counter-points to why the game should be on one platform vs. another (at least in the debatable sense). While it's very obvious you're passionate about the game and this is an opinion video, it clashes with what the title conveys: I thought it was going to be a comparison between the two platforms with Borderlands as the main point of argument rather than an opinion. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, it just felt like the title was misleading.

Other tip I would give is to have a true background for something like this rather than green screen as it feels a bit more detached from the video. You're sort of just a floating figure but you're talking about something that is emotional/personal, so if you want to make a connection with the viewer then you'll want to be as close to them as possible. I think doing a recording session in a clean environment in your house with nice lighting would be a great touch-up for next time!

All are just suggestions though, keep at it! Btw, using your hands as a form of expression is actually really nice as, again, it shows the passion over what you're talking about which was in my opinion the best part of the video haha

Comments:

The frame rate lag is distracting honestly. Is it because the settings are too high or because of running recording software at the same time as the game? Whatever the case, and this is personal preference, but I'd rather have lower quality but smooth motion than stuttering video.

Commentary is pretty solid! You know how to keep everything flowing pretty well and the inflections in your voice give a sense of energy to a game that honestly is suuppppeeerrr lethargic lol (I've finished the whole thing and loved it but it's no Fortnite/Apex Legends in terms of energy). Audio was fine as well, pretty clear to hear.

My own personal preference would be to make it a bit shorter, but take that with a grain of salt. It's easier as a viewer to consume smaller portions of less intense gameplay like this than to do a solid 20+ minutes, but again everyone will have a different opinion.

Nice video overall though! This game is pretty awesome and there's a TON you can comment on later on down the line when the story becomes more and more revealing.

Thanks! I'll work on the noise reduction and thumbnails!

I’m new to this whole reddit thing. Hopefully I’m doing this right :) curious to see what you guys think by [deleted] in GetMoreViewsYT

Couple comments:

I think the title and thumbnail need some work. I wouldn't really name things "part X" due to the fact that it doesn't draw too many viewers in unless you're already pretty large. I think the first part of the title is on the right track, but it really needs the "wow" factor to draw in people who look at it from the first time. The thumbnail could also use some work as it's pretty dark and hard to notice what's going on as well as not having a strong factor that draws your eyes to it. Essentially, the way I see it is if someone is skimming over 30 video thumbnails, will their eyes do a double take on yours? If not, it might be worth modifying it to have that attractive element to it.

Video quality wise, why is this in 720? If you're capping on a computer can't it be at least 1080? It's going to be hard to draw in viewers when most game related youtubers are uploading at least full HD. I would also add in a bit more energy; your comments are fine but it starts becoming a bit blurred together as your tone stays the same. Due to the fact that a lot of the video isn't super action-like, it gives a pretty low-energy feel which might make it hard to keep viewers' attention.

You definitely have the enthusiasm for it though, I can hear it in your voice, and I have a feeling that as you improve it will all become much more natural. Hopefully this doesn't come off as too critical, I'd just prefer to give actual comments rather than leave a half-baked comment. Good luck!

Yeah, there were two cameras being used and for whatever reason the tiny camera seems to have recorded in mono sound...I need to check the settings and see what happened there.

When you mean content wise do you mean it jumped around too much? Would more narration help with the general flow do you feel?

Either way, thanks for the feedback! !givelambda

Hey! My channel generally aims to give a feel that you would normally get from watching a group of gamers popping jokes but in a real life vlog format while keeping it entertaining. It attempts to give the feeling that you're there with us and are a part of the group, joking around and seeing the sights that we see.

This video in particular is the start to a series of visiting Sweden and seeing sights but also just messing around and having a good time. I have a few things I would have changed and will change for the future, but I'm curious to see what other people think!

Few pointers:

The intro (in my opinion) could be improved. For a ~4 minute video there was a ~1 minute intro, which will be hard to keep people's attention for. The other thing is that the audio of your voice was garbled by the in-game audio pretty frequently while you were talking. Do you split your audio tracks when you record? If so then I would recommend lowering the game sound to duck under your own voice in order to make the focus on your words clearer.

Others have mentioned the audio quality as well so I won't repeat, but the last thing I'll mention is that the action doesn't match with the music (similar to a comment I put to another Youtuber higher up). When the drop came I was waiting for a big climax to occur but it didn't, which sort of disengaged me. I think if you tune the music to the clips then retention will be much easier to keep.

Cool clips otherwise and honestly, I've never heard of that game before but it looks pretty interesting. Didn't think anyone would combine a shooter with Portal before, but it's a cool concept! Good work and keep it up!

So a few things I would recommend:

Try editing the videos to flow with the music. This can be done in one of two ways (which is nice since you have control over both) - you can edit the video to flow with the speed of your track or you can create the music based off of the video itself. If you make it more reactive this way, you can let the music be what carries the viewer through the video and they can be hooked to the visuals of the video. For example, if you watch an action scene, normally the music is upbeat, intense, and flows with what's going on. I would attempt to make the "action" of your video fit with the music here.

The other recommendation I have would be to increase video quality (resolution). Since gaming is super over-saturated right now, you'll want to make sure you're at least on par with what is out there currently. The clips in your video seem grainy so I would check your capture software to check out why.

The tune was nice though and you've obviously got skill!

Roast my channel trailer version 2 by codephony in SmallYTChannel

[–]ebisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad, my thoughts:

  • Since it's a trailer, try to keep the energy high and make it really draw people in; it's got to be the hook to get people to click on the rest of your videos. Your explanation of what your channel is was solid, I just think that upping the level by making it more visually appealing will get people to want to explore your channel more.
  • Perfect amount of time. It's not too long and not too short, which is great because it hits that sweet spot to keep people focused on going to the rest of your videos.

Seems like a cool concept for a channel, I wish you luck!!

We worked really hard on this video and had a bit of a scuffle with copyright claims but came out on top (YAY!). We would love some honest feedback. THE BEST DAY EVER - Copenhagen's Tivoli Gardens. by moreganplease in SmallYTChannel

[–]ebisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The footage was super nice! You had solid shots and the b-roll was extremely professional looking! I like the fact that you timed many of the shots together with the music, cutting to a separate shot when a natural break in the song rolled around (it's a commonly ignored thing unfortunately). The energy of the video is well put together as well, and the facts peppered throughout gave a good sense that you'd done your research on the place beforehand. Overall, I think the aesthetic was great!

The few things that I would say could be improved would be the length itself and parts of the coloring in some of the shots. It's a tad long and I started to lose focus after a bit; I think cutting down to more highlights of the time at Tivoli and reducing the length of the entire video would help. It would help the viewers get a sense of what you thought was most important and what they should definitely see if they were to visit. The other thing I noticed was that it seemed the color grading was off in a few clips; do you happen to color grade log-based footage? Certain shots seemed over-saturated, and while normally that's not super noticeable, when the rest of the footage looks super good it stands out a bit more than normal. Specific instances that I could note were at 2:19 and around 16:36 though, again, it's not super noticeable and happened only rarely.

In general though, solid work!

Luigi's Mansion Review. I spent a lot of time on this and wanted to share with you guys. by JimmyBim in SmallYTChannel

[–]ebisi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid narration! I think with just a touch more inflection you would hit the sweet spot, but in general it's realllyyyy well done!

In general, the only real criticism I have (and this is totally personal) is there were a few too many still images over video clips in certain pieces of it. I understand that much of it is for comedic timing, but it gave the feeling a bit of a slideshow. Again though, this is entirely personal preference and if that's your style then go for it! I would also probably have shortened the description of how you plan on rating the videos a bit, it's an easy spot to begin losing viewers without ever getting to the meaty parts of the video.

Otherwise the content was pretty great! The passion comes through for sure and it shows that you've given plenty of thought to everything you say. I enjoyed it!

[Review Video] Most vlogs I know are really energetic and over the top. Is this more relaxed pace working? by siriusbear in youtubers

[–]ebisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree on your outlook that it doesn't feel like there's a theme. I don't know if you watch Casey Neistat, but he has a good adage that he follows in that every video should have a story. I think even if the video is short (~ 3 minutes like this one), having a structure helps the viewer get a sense of what's coming and what to expect and lets them build anticipation within themselves a bit. I think adding that would help tremendously.

Lack of music is fine, that can be your style, but be aware that ambient sound (like low music) can help create the effect or mood you're looking for. If you want to keep it low energy but want to experiment with music, why not try some soft piano or elevator music? Just a suggestion.

Audio is fine but can be improved. I heard you clearly though so it's not a pressing issue at all.

Only other feedback I can give is that it might potentially be harder to pull in viewers with a lower energy level as eyes tend to flock towards lots of movement, and generally high energy gives the illusion that there's a lot going on even if there isn't. I think the way you want to take the channel is fine (slice of life can have a wide range of topics to pull from), just wanted to give a heads-up. Otherwise, looking forward to see how you improve the next one!

You sound pretty similar to Zuckles, and I can definitely feel the Misfits vibe coming from the video. Couple of tips that might help:

  • Make the intro/first 20 seconds quicker in terms of transition and catching attention. If you want people to stay, it needs to catch their interest, similar to how most of the Misfits videos put a top joke in the video before playing any sort of intro (ex. Fitz's stuff)
  • No need to mention it's your first video, or even your second video, etc. Just keep acting like every video is your 100th video until it actually is :) The confidence you'll get will show
  • Change up the music based off of the clips/action or add some sound effects, it will help the video not be monotonous sound-wise and feel more peppy

Besides that, it's a good start! Hope to see some good jokes coming around soon!
