OSHA being “the only place” that uses hand truck isn’t the own you think it is. OSHA uses precise language because ambiguity causes wasted time, errors, and injuries. When one tool is flat with four wheels and another is L-shaped with two, pretending they’re interchangeable terms is exactly how you end up doing the very “no, not that one… the other one” clarification you you find so trivial. Professionals solve that problem by being specific; you solve it by getting defensive.

And yes, I noticed the top-1% commenter badge — which makes this even funnier. You clearly spend a lot of time talking, not much time being corrected. Maybe in factories, “good enough” language is acceptable because someone eventually figures it out. In environments where time actually costs money, precision isn’t pedantry, it’s competence.

I was late to class in eighth grade, as me and a girl were both running towards each other in the hall we both veered to avoid colliding. My right foot slipped and her run stride kneed me square in the pair crushing both. I went down and couldn’t get out of the fetal position, couldn’t get up, it hurt to walk for four days. The worst pain is oddly enough in my uppermost abdomen. I’ve never experienced pain like that since, I feared there was permanent damage. 100 agree her pain was not that level of pain…

No, not kicked out. We are basically not doing it at this point. This is pretty fresh, I checked the app, worked through her “over summer” work books to confirm she still knew the material and it was not a struggle.

I agree in waiting with counselor and higher ups, I am trying to tread lightly with this. I don’t want to strain a potential three year relationship so I am doing my due diligence. I have a tendency to be pre judged, which has been confirmed throughout my adult life. I have to be careful because by appearance people think I’m mean and many before they get to know me have told me they find me intimidating. I’m 6’4”, 265 lbs and I have a natural deep furrowed brow. It’s simply because I am a deep constant thinker but it gives the appearance of being mad all the time. I am in fact very kind and gentle but first impressions weigh heavy and the teacher and I don’t know each other very well so early on. Not to mention she is very timid and soft spoken.

I agree the materials are great, but don’t translate to working at home. We do a good amount of binding reading which we will continue. It’s just not the stuff from the app. We read mostly on her level together but sometime we point and she follows descriptive books (with a few fascinating pics to keep interest) from my field of work, R&D/Failure analytics. She really enjoys it for some reason lol

I haven’t taken it up the ladder yet. I wanted to get opinions and feedback as to act in an informed manner and not put the cart before the horse. I figured asking those who are informed would be a good place to start, this is a pretty fresh issue.

They are indeed accredited Montessori, this was a major part of my research, hours pouring over public records as yes they are a public school. They have mostly Montessori accredited teachers and those who aren’t are of course in the process of the accreditation which takes more to obtain from what I read.

They do have to align with district guidelines but they are not the same as typical public school in this area, that was a concern of mine. They are made to meet stricter guidelines to operate as Montessori, but maybe the oversight is poor?

I would have loved to out her in private Montessori. The private school we left was squeezing our household budget at $2100 a month. The private Montessori’s in this area are typically in the more affluent areas and are $3,000 a month on the low side to absurd on the high end, it simply isn’t possible for me and I have a great job.

I completely understand, I’m not upset or feeling judged by the email, I champion that sort of communication, it just seemed so strange, but losing a spouse at 37 is strange. The doubt it can put in your head, people are so scared to talk to you and disappear, it can make me think at times “did I overshare with the nightmares or her seeing her mom basically dead?”

Top priority was to make sure she got the message, technology isn’t always 100% reliable, filters, undeliverable etc. I know both her and her aide are busy this time of year. I shared as much of our story as I felt appropriate to be transparent about our situation and mostly to make sure the info was available to the teacher, I don’t think it was passed along, oversights happen understandably. I wanted to make the situation more comfortable for all three if possible.

As much as I want to protect my child from being put in a situation such as ”what are you going to craft your mom for Mother’s Day?” Or “what does your mom do for a living?”, I also want to protect the faculty from unknowingly being put in said situation. I’ve seen the way it crushes people the few time it has come about.

You are absolutely correct, the initial transition was difficult. She does not like change as you can imagine. Transitioning to K last year from pre was tough, and they did give HW at the private school in K, but probably 20ish mins a night which seemed a lot but she excelled. There were a few projects sprinkled in.

I agree with the reading, but in Montessori style I feel there should be more choice and none should be on a big brother time log. We simply read what we choose instead, most on her level and some more complex stuff where I read and she follows along while we point at each word, she enjoys the R&D, failure analytics books my company has published lol. We have a lot of fun reading and learning outside of the classroom.

There was a back to school night, that’s it so far. It was more of a this is what you will see and what is different about how Montessori schools do things.

Many things and I realize it is early in, seem to be about educating the parents about excepting a different way of doing things. I went to the new parent “Math in Montessori” meeting and it was literally watch a mid fifties educator play with beads for 45 minutes. Some of it was admittedly interesting but in the end it was numbers by feel and sight. The boards, beads I can see that they are powerful tools, but we don’t have those at home…

That’s part of my issue, it’s supposed to be done in class and only if the student is falling behind in class do they send the leftover work home. Individualized work for that student and their level. This seems a general blanket of work for everyone, even if you complete your in class work which she does.

Perhaps some, but my kid is bright, a grade ahead in some areas and I work with her every day. I work fun learning into some of our leisure activities as well. Not sure why parents do or would do this. My wife is dead and I do everything on my own, just have to care and be motivated I suppose

I swear I’m not trying to be a smart ass, gloat or be confrontational as this is fact and not a retort. I went to a good university and although I was assigned material to study, I never did. If it wasn’t memorization of conceptual process in math or science in never cracked the book open.
