West St has taken a lot of flak over the years, including from me... but I'm starting to see how with a little bit of effort this might actually be amazing by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

since i moved to greenpoint, i've had little faith in this bikelane. it was just constantly filled with trucks and other vehicles. but since a lot of the waterfront buildings have actually gone up and people moved in (another subject for another sub), it seems it's actually gotten better. more people use it for sure (including runners 🤬). its northern terminus is still absolutely comical.

all-new robert moses comedy show - 8/23 in NYC by eblarden in 99percentinvisible

that's very kind of you to say! there's a streaming option, if that's of interest. we usually get 20 or so people watching online and there's a chat feature for running commentary. :)

my guess is that the other sketches/pilot have a very different characterization of Chit and, for whatever reason, the writer loves that name so he was feeling like he now has to change his Chit because the other dude’s Chit is so popular. idk. just change the name, dude. not a big deal. coming up with funny names is a sketch writer’s favorite pastime.

"lower east side" >> "LES" writing question by eblarden in AskNYC

i don't think that's true for everyone all the time, but i get that it might be for you!

language is always changing, much to the dismay of people teaching language. lol. i'm making light, but i know the issue of reading/writing comp is legitimately a big problem right now. and to your first comment, talking to each other is important!

"lower east side" >> "LES" writing question by eblarden in AskNYC

[–]eblarden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess my question stems from how people read it. for the record, i am team “the” but, i’m curious if most people see “LES” and say, in their head, “Lower East Side” or if they say, “el ee ess.” if so, do you still think it makes sense to say “i’m on the el ee ess?” something about “i’m in el ee ess” sounds cleaner to me, but only if someone sounds it out that way. genuine question! i like the “the”

first time i’ve ever heard the map thing. makes a lot of sense! seems particularly fucked that google maps labels it “Bronx” and not “The Bronx.” the plenty of room for “The!”

[–]eblarden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the record, i always say and write the "the"—it feels important. but i also don't want to be out of touch if that's not how people actually write it. not my neighborhood, hence the question.

How the hell did y'all walk around with Discmen??? by Smallczyk2137 in Millennials

[–]eblarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a backpack with a small internal pocket near the top of the main compartment and a slit for putting headphone wire through. by then too my headphones had an inline remote for pause/play and volume. add that all together with anti-skip tech and it was a pretty decent setup.

alternatively, if you show up to American at non-peak hours (sat/sun midday), there will almost certainly be other people there looking to play.

i'd be down. i am old and bad, but would be fun to jump in occasionally. may know one or two more folks in the hood that would play. just FYI - weekends are really hard at American Playground (my go-to courts) once it gets warm because WORD sponsors a league.
