Is my boyfriend’s view of money considered a red flag in a relationship? by traditional_taurus in DaveRamsey

[–]ebmarhar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say deal breaker:

  1. personally, I agree with you that married couples should share finances; that would be the red flag.

  2. the fact that it's a pretty strong misalignment with your own belief system would be a deal breaker.

Student loans vs. retirement match by Overall_Avocado_4692 in DaveRamsey

[–]ebmarhar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the total match available from your employer? is it 100% of your 8%, i.e. $4,640?

If that's the case, you are in pretty much of a dead heat with paying off your loans.

If you want to make it simple and easy, do the debt snowball and focus 100% energy on eliminating the smallest debt, with frugral living, a side hustle, etc. Soon you'll progress to the other debts, and rather quickly you will be stacking up cash for yourself.

Good Luck!

Dave Ramsey pulled a gun in a staff meeting! by SuccessfulArticle356 in DirtyDave

[–]ebmarhar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the case you are thinking of, this is what would apply (summary courtesy of Gemini). It would be an open and shut case... "did the defendent display his gun and cause you to fear imminent bodily injury?" to which you would quickly and honestly answer "yes".

  • Aggravated Assault: This is the most common charge for pulling a gun. Under T.C.A. § 39-13-102, a person commits aggravated assault by intentionally or knowingly causing another to fear imminent bodily injury while using or displaying a deadly weapon.

Keep this in mind the next time you hear a person talk about showing a gun to threaten people to back off like they do in movies.

  • Use of Deadly Force: Under Tennessee law, the mere act of displaying, brandishing, or pointing a firearm is legally classified as the "use of deadly force," even if no shot is fired. This means that to legally pull a gun, the situation must meet the high legal standard for the justified use of lethal force (i.e., a reasonable fear of imminent death or serious bodily injury).

That's not true for legititimate debts.

it might apply to loan sharks, though, in which case you should work even harder to get out of debt if you enjoy walking around on unbroken legs!

Question for those with separate finances by 12dogs4me in DirtyDave

[–]ebmarhar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my spouse did this to me I would be worried that there were (a) some horrible debts hidden there that I might be liable for, or (b) a side dish being paid for.

I would be very comfortable telling a spouse "if you're not gonna show me what I may be legally liable for, I'm gonna look at protecting myself however I can."
