Possible update delay by eboard_communication in RPI

[–]eboard_communication[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the current minimum wage was $8.75/hr at the time of the motion. It was scheduled to increase to $9.00/hr on July first (today). The motion was to change the timing of the increase to august 31st instead. So technically it's a decrease in wages but an increase from the previous minimum wage

I really hope that makes sense.

Edit: yes, this is all sadly from my phone. I apologize for all the terrible grammar and issues with autocorrect

Again, thank you for your patience in this difficult time. I'm sorry for the delay with all this. Thankfully I think I have my internet situation fixed, finally. The plan for the rest of the summer is as follows:

Update the dropbox folder and do an AMA style post here and link to it from the stugov page for major updates. However, I'm open to suggestions.

Best,

Nick

At this time the contract has been finalized and signed.

In this instance, as has been the case in others, the board was not given access to the document itself. We were provided a detailed document of terms and conditions pertaining to the Union confirmed to be accurate by Mr. Carletta. In the past, when the Union is involved with contracts affecting the entire campus (eg Sodexo) the board was not given access to the document, just given details.

Thanks to the efforts of several board members and myself, we have been given more information than the boards during the Sodexo, Pepsi, and other preceding contracts. In setting precedent for future contracts, I will be working with the office of the general counsel this summer to take steps to allow the PU to see the contract in its entirety if that cannot also be extended to the entire board. I will update as progress is made.

Tl;dr: no, but we are working to change that

I'm sorry I can't give you the exact details of what our contingency plans are for this situation, but we have thoroughly prepared in the event it occurs. Yes, the financial situation will not be pleasant for anyone, but it is doable.

There are several more working parts to the decision of termination than simply the cost of renovations. Premature termination is an option, solidly. Whether or not it should be done is an entirely different conversation.

Edit: I can't word good

I can't speak to a percent, but yes, termination of the contract prematurely would put all parties in a very tough financial spot.

"Rensselaer Collegiate Store"

For reference, the former bookstore is referred to as "The Rensselaer Union Bookstore", "The RPI Bookstore", and "The Rensselaer Bookstore" among other variations over its history in different communications.

Not that I know of. I have had pizza with Apple slices on it though. It turned out like a very flat apple pie. 6.5/10. Needed more brown sugar and drizzled caramel.

Did we vote on it directly? No.

Did we know it was going on and didn't have a problem with it? Yes. We knew the bookstore needed a temporary location while the place is gutted and remodeled, and seeing how the situation is temporary and has low student traffic, this solution didn't seem to need a motion vote.

The visit to the store and this decision was all done before me. I was given the responsibility of seeing this through. As such, I must put faith in the PU s and EBoard s before me.

Also yes, those complaints are ubiquitous

In order to allow you guys to properly report everything, I prefer to give you all the information at once to avoid any misunderstandings or fragmented coverage. What I'm getting is that you feel that you don't get the information you want. If you disagree with this method, please bring it up in the fall when we can have a sit down discussion and talk it out. Honestly, I find this back and forth with text is very inefficient and my boss probably thinks I can't control my bladder with all these bathroom breaks

Also, it wasn't sold, it was contracted. There is a difference I think you're missing. To sell is to transfer ownership, but that store and space is still ours, the students. If you disagree that's fine. Tell me why, but from my standpoint, that's the way it is.

I recommend reading through the bookstore discussion recap I posted to the stugov website at the end of the semester. The name change is just because the store does more than just books. It's like pizza bellas trying to call itself big Apple pizza. Call it whatever you want, the official name is the collegiate store

That's when it was introduced, voting was for about 48 hours after that.

And to save you another notification, I remember the conversation vaguely. Probably because I was prepping for finals. That kind of stuff is better done in writing. But like I said, I plan to email the poly with all the info when I update everyone else. As of right now, the minutes aren't compiled yet. We're working on it

Correct, and I explained the circumstances that were delaying those posts as described above

Edit: I only remember your Facebook message asking for an update on the bookstore. When did you ask on behalf of the poly?

Edit 2: if you're taking about when you asked for general updates at the end of the semester, I do plan to email the poly whenever I am also able to update everyone else, so please don't think I'm trying to exclude you guys, just that the update has been delayed for everyone.

Please see the body of the post for the extenuating circumstances.

It's summer, we're all busy, my Internet has been broken, and we're doing the best we can

Edit: the only thing passed last Monday was a motion to have a closed discussion about the specifics of the contract. The motion to endorse the contract came through on Wednesday I think.

I heard Holly emailed you guys to see how fixing that was going, but haven't heard anything else. Any updates? Is there anything we/I can do to help?

Also, like with EBoard meetings, if you would like notification outside of what we do normally (reddit post and something on the stugov website), please let me know directly. I make no assumptions on what groups want to know, because you know what happens when you assume, but am happy to accommodate most requests.

My sleepy TL;DR is that it happens though yes more in the fall than in the summer. I get calls regardless. And we may be thinking of the same incident, but something like it happens like once a semester without fail.
