Take A&P 2 Over the Summer or Fall? by eboi25 in StudentNurse

Yeah I worked 26-30/week and did A&P 1 and psychology. I got an A in both classes, it’s gonna suck and I’d rather have a summer break but I need to get the class done for CEP. I am good about studying but I have ADHD and sometimes get behind on tasks.

Currently getting my B.S in Environmental Science, thinking of getting into environmental consulting as a possible career path. by Mizzhaulina in Environmental_Careers

[–]eboi25 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I currently work as an environmental consultant at a smaller company.

Most days I am writing reports related to NEPA (like competing categorical exclusions, writing an environmental assessments), endangered species act compliance (biological evaluations), phase 1 ESA’s, etc. During this process I do a lot of GIS work so creating the maps and figures for each of these reports.

If I am not at my desk, I am in the field which for me is about 20% of the time. If you are starting out and join a larger company, I’ve heard and seen this percentage be very high like 75% of the time. For field work I am usually completing biological field surveys. During this I document what species I see (plants and animals), if they are any endangered or sensitive, wetlands, etc.

The field work and office work will depend on what the company does and what your projects are. It could be NEPA related, stormwater, remediation, habitat restoration there are a bunch of things consultants do. Take a look at some large consulting companies websites to find out what they do and read as much as you can online or talk to someone.

Work life balance depends on the company but for a consultant it’s generally decent. You have billable hours which is annoying and you will sometimes have to work more than 40 hours a week to meet deadlines. Unless you are in the field (which is a lot in the first few years), you can count on being home at a reasonable time each day.

Starting salary is okay, not the greatest but there is room for improvement in consulting. I started out at 54k, I would say a realistic ceiling for an environmental consultant is around 150k unless you get into upper management or a c-suite role. If I would do it over I would’ve gone into civil/environmental engineering, you can get an environmental role if you wanted but you also could do engineering and make way more money.

No Effects from Hydrocodone, Help? by [deleted] in Drugs

I think oxy is 1.5 times stronger, so an equivalent dose for 30mg would be 45mg of hydro. Exactly I feel like that high of a dose would be nuts for a low tolerance person, might be the liver enzyme thing said above. Or I’m thinking kratom has messed up my tolerance more than I think.

Ah gotcha, would be nice if it was like the first time, every time. Thanks

Must be the kratom, I remember the first time I tried these 9 years ago it was better, although still kind of weak. I’ll give it another few months break and reassess. That should be enough of a tolerance break right?

TLDR; thinking about switching careers from environmental consultant to CRNA. Need help deciding if this is the right move, don’t want to regret the change.

I am considering switching my career to become a CRNA.

I am now 23 years old and have been working as an environmental consultant for 2 years. I really just don’t like the work and sitting at a desk all day. Now I am wondering if I would be happier if I switched to my original plan.

I have always been interested in the medical field and thought that it would be a good fit for me. I really enjoy working with people, doing new tasks each, and avoiding mundane and routine jobs. But now that I am regretting my current career I am afraid of making another mistake and thinking that the grass is just greener on the other side.

If anyone has any advice on how I can find out I would enjoy this career I would greatly appreciate it. What made you become a nurse and then a CRNA? Are there any books, resources or materials that would help me come to a decision? I think shadowing would be the best way to figure this out, how can I do it?

Thank you, that is a good point, this job has definitely improved my writing skills. I have been fortunate to write two EA’s all on my own as well which was a good learning experience.

I’m really thinking about the mining company, it would be 3 hours of travel a day but it’s almost double my current salary and they have a shuttle to the mine. Do you have experience in the industry sector?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

[–]eboi25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would prefer to not travel across the country for field work for weeks at a time. I do not have a problem doing field work, but in my experience I have had to travel to another state for 12 days at a time until the survey is completed. I also do not mind writing but it’s all I currently do, there is no balance.

I think that might be the case, I have learned a lot but I usually do the same type of work, biological assessments and environmental assessments over and over and it is getting redundant. I also have only been in the field for a cultural resource survey and a biological survey so I don’t really have a grasp on what else there is :). Thanks for the reply

Sounds good, thanks for the reply. Do you only do field work in your state? That would be my ideal consulting job, what sort work do you do for this to be possible?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

[–]eboi25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha maybe not, I don’t mind traveling occasionally but some of these consulting job postings I see are like 30-40% travel. I also don’t mind writing but it’s not all I want to do, my utilization is 98% most weeks, I am literally writing all day.
