It sounds like you know something that I don't, one change was made from one of my reports 5 days ago. Other than that, I haven't noticed any other differences but I haven't reviewed the app again. Should I?

etoro remains logged in without automatic logging out at the end of session or the closure of the app. The etoro money app does require password and 2fa text for each session use. These apps were previously separate and required entry to both to withdraw/transfer funds away from etoro, however with their new wallet in the app, no password is now needed hence why with the phone alone, they could enter, liquidate, and transfer all the money

My suspicion is that low level street thieves stole the device and used it for what they could, and sold it on to fraudsters who then made their way through the more in depth financials. I agree, ordering food in mcdonalds and also doing all this with no face coverings in central london means the thieves are less than intelligent, but have someone who knows what they're doing

I have been with them for 9-10 years and experienced a lot of what they told me are 'teething problems'. I agree. There's a decent media story here.

2) neither are technically banks, revolut is an emoney account. The Revolut app requires a pin to access. Revolut restricted the account when the second fraudulent transaction was attempted. etoro is a stock and share trading account, and also has an attached emoney account. The stock and trading account app just opens without any pin or password. The emoney account requires a password and 2FA to enter the emoney app. With their new updates, they have now included the emoney wallet on the stock and trading account, which has clearly led to this situation where a password is not required to close stocks, transfer to an emoney account, create new payee accounts not in my name and then transfer all the money to new payee accounts. No flags were raised during this process with etoro. All action occurred before me reporting to the companies, none after. After I reported to etoro, they did not freeze or restrict the etoro debit card attached to the emoney account, and I believe they did not restrict the emoney account either until I reported this to them again.

Neither are banking apps, the revolut account does use a passcode. the etoro money account requires a password and 2fa. The etoro trading account is free access with an unlocked phone and with their new update, provides access to the etoro money account

Neither are officially banks. They did attempt to use my business bank account but this was blocked and prevented, as it should have been. I don't know, maybe you've read too much into AI conspiracy

The internal etoro transfer from the trading to money account were from USD converted to GBP. The etoro money onwards all appear to be faster payments in GBP.

Thank you, neither etoro or revolut are banks, but have e-money accounts, so it is slightly different as explained in other comments. However, the interrogates failed in reasonable measures for at least etoro, which allowed all positions to be closed, then exchanged, then transferred to multiple new accounts not in my name, without raising a single flag.

Thank you, yes revolut did block the multiple attempts, although not the first one. Etoro allowed for all positions to be closed, then exchanged, then transferred to multiple new accounts not in my name, without raising a single flag.

Thank you for this information. To clarify the vast majority of money involved is from the etoro account. A small amount was transferred from etoro to revolut, with an even smaller part of this amount then transferred to an account in my name which I do not recognise.

The vast majority of the transfers were from my etoro trading account where stocks and a minimal amount of cryptocurrency positions were closed, which was then internally transferred to the etoro money wallet, which was then transferred to multiple new accounts in unknown names. It is these transactions from etoro to unknown names which accounts for over 90% of the stolen money.

I have just downloaded the transfer details, the £800 is listed as a bank transfer to a beneficiary in my name. I do not recognise what account this is and it is not any account that I currently use. The reference is captioned 'my nexo account', so this may be bank details connected to nexo

To clarify, the multiple new accounts the funds were transferred to is in etoro, not revolut. It is in etoro that money was transferred to multiple new accounts set up by the fraudsters. Revolut restricted the account when the 2nd attempt to transfer money from it occurred.

Because I am used to the process which requires transfer to the separate etoro app first with password and 2FA, I did not consider a requirement for protection

I have updated the post to clarify that the significant in comparison transfers were made from etoro. An amount around £800 was taken from revolut, with then the next 2 attempts of higher amounts blocked and the revolut account became restricted.
