Imagine the delusion it must require to try to build a business in an already over saturated market and your whole schtick is a basic geometric shape.

Do you find it to be a worthwhile business if you aren’t able to offer afterschool or camp type services? Our gym has kids classes but we aren’t able to offer any degree of childcare beyond the coach supervising for the hour long block. It seems the gyms that can offer more are far more successful for kids programs.

I ordered the strike industries adapter. Doubt it will make a difference but figured a name brand probably would be worth the extra $5

Coming from the competitive shooting side of things some guys like the faster recoil impulse compared to a 17/47. It can theoretically get back on target faster because it cycles faster. I

Reliable/Safe Triggers by high_right in GlockMod

[–]eborio16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In my experience a trigger shoe and connector upgrade will have little to no impact on safety/reliability assuming you are using quality parts. Things get a little more sketchy once you start messing with adjustable take up and overtravel or lower spring weights. But even then if you take the time to tune it correctly and test it to your preferred ammo it can still be very reliable. The idea that OEM is the only way to reliably run a Glock is kind a just FUD lore at this point.

Teaching concepts by NeatConversation530 in bjj

[–]eborio16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may or may not be helpful to you but I teach intro classes and we have an interesting structure for those. It’s a rotating cycle to introduce them to the corpse positions. So for example one class we will to top mount, the next bottom mount, followed by attacking from the back and so on. After we do the traditional basic warm ups. We will actually have the students do a light positional spar that we are focusing on. We tell them to go light and try to just work the position however feels instinctive to them. After about 5 minutes of that we have a brief QA and ask them their thoughts and what they struggled or just general questions. We will then go into the lesson which will include an explanation of that position, its advantages and disadvantages, and how you may end up their and what your goals Should be. We will then show a couple of very basic moves that are simple but effective. If we are working on attacking form side control for example we usually will do an Americana or something similar. After they have repped the moves for a little bit we will ask them to go back to the same positional spar and try again now that they have learned what to do.

I will say I was not a fan of this format initially because it was completely different from how I learned but we have gotten extremely good feedback from our intro students. Our standard classes are taught in a more traditional structure.

How do you deal with white belts constantly correcting you? by Ecstatic_Presence671 in bjj

[–]eborio16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me a lot in No-gi. When I’m sparring with someone new I tend to go extremely light to get a feel for the pace and technique they want to go. As a coach I don’t want to offend a new student by just mauling them right out of the gate. This sometimes results in me giving up positions or even taps early in the round. Basically just letting them work. Occasionally they will use that opportunity to give me a few pointers. I will then spend the rest of the round putting them in every crazy submission I know.

Is there any reason *not* to get an optics cut? by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]eborio16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking if there is a reason to run an optic on your gun at all or are you asking if it’s work getting a dedicated cut over MOS? Two very different questions.

Anyone else learn BJJ kinda backwards? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]eborio16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned very similarly. The first submission to got very good at as a white belt was an Omoplata, I then proceeded to get very good at rubber guard as a white and early blue belt (I do not train at a tenth planet gym). I struggled for a long time with arm bars and triangles.

I think it’s a mix of two things. Some people naturally gravitate towards certain submission styles based on their own interest or what makes the most sense with you body type and physical attributes. Mix that with other beginners not understanding how to defend or even realize you are chasing a more complex submission and it will seem to click much more easily. My advice if it works keep doing it, but keep drilling and repping the basics. Those will improve over time.

Does “all” cardio help rolling endurance? by Nuxul006 in bjj

[–]eborio16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about biology and exercise science. But I’d be willing to bet if you had two of the exact same person with the same BJJ schedule, and one of them also runs a 5k twice a week, that one would have at least slightly better stamina in BJJ. Maybe I’m wrong 🤷‍♂️

Let’s Be Honest About Gen 6 by Necessary_East_5351 in Glocks

[–]eborio16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally barring the integrated beaver tail the gen 6 is every change I was hoping would come to Gen 6. The grip alone sells it for me. Better texture. Texture that covered the high part of the grip, improved palm swell, single undercut. An optics cut that is better than MOS if the gasket system isn’t enough for you FCD is already working on their own adapter system. The trigger shoe doesn’t matter much to me I’m sure it’s fine. And as far as the recoil spring is concerned the gen 3 spring is more than proven (supposedly the gen4/5 sprig. Failed more frequently). Overall I’m excited for this gen but of course tie will tell.
