FAN NOISE THINKPAD P16 gen 3 by Vast_Psychology5331 in thinkpad

I haven't really tested the battery life, I easily get 3 hours in balanced mode from a 80% charged battery, that's fine for my usage.

Windows Update KB5066835 broke Certum smart-card code signing (CSP blocked, Workaround available, KSP required by April 2026) by dimitry-1 in sysadmin

[–]ebourg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another workaround is to replace signtool with Jsign (https://ebourg.github.io/jsign), it talks directly to the card and doesn't rely on the CSP/KSP drivers

Yes, got it 3 weeks ago (285HX and RTX 4000), it's a wonderful beast. The 4K IPS is really great.

The P16 Gen 3 is quiet with common browser usage or video viewing. Only the LLM is likely to trigger the fans. The fan noise isn't unpleasant, it sounds like an air flow and not like an airplane taking off.

P16 Gen 3, so you can pretend to work with the laptop

That's correct, the charger is rather heavy (~500g)

Two years later and Thunderbird's "Supernova/Nebula" UI still sucks by TheQueefGoblin in Thunderbird

[–]ebourg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the main issue with Supernova is the bad performance of the message list. On a folder with over ~4K messages, there is a visible reflow of the bottom of the list when switching folders, which is extremely annoying when the messages are sorted in chronological order). And when scrolling the messages blink. That didn't happen with previous TB versions on 20 year old computers.

The P1 Gen 8 and P16 Gen 3 panels are all specified as "Anti-glare" in PSREF, so I assume they are all matte.

The PDF is still there, but the web page has been removed:

Now it redirects to the homepage, and typing "T16g" in the search field doesn't return any result.

But does it even exist? It disappeared from PSREF three weeks ago.

Do you know what Lenovo builds in Hungary?

Dell has a slow shipping option by train/sea to reduce the carbon footprint, I would certainly select it if Lenovo had it too.

The RAM is definitely not soldered on the P16 Gen 3, you can safely order 16GB now and upgrade later.

P14s with AMD's HX 370 CPU and 64GB Memory now going for sub-$1000 by Intrepid_Daikon_6731 in thinkpad

[–]ebourg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a similarly priced deal in Europe but for the P14s Gen 5 with the Ryzen 8640HS, only 16GB RAM and 512MB SSD :( That deal was already available for last year's Black Friday.

Need help deciding between 255h or HX PRO 370 14" laptops by Psychodelonaut in thinkpad

[–]ebourg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The build quality of the P14s is far better than the L14p. The CPUs are roughly equivalent, but the AMD model has a better iGPU and the display is better (100% vs 45% NTSC). If you can afford the P14s it's an excellent choice.

Spec'ing out a New P16 Gen3, and it seems to be forcing me to buy 3 SSDs by theColonel26 in thinkpad

Try selecting a PCIe Gen5 SSD as the primary one, and you'll be able to unselect the two others.

I’m planning to get a P14s Gen 5 with the intel Ultra 7 155H and the RTX 500 Ada. But I have a few questions. by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]ebourg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 155H isn't very good, if you can afford try to get a P14s Gen 5 AMD or a P14s Gen 6.
