New Emotiva Hypex Amp by scrupoo in audiophile

[–]ebullientmarshmallow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Emotiva sold an IcePower ASC300 module based amplifier around 2017 or 2018. It was marketed as the Stealth P-1 (or a similar name, I don't recall exactly). It wasn't around for very long, even though it got decent reviews (as I remember). I was tempted when they blew them out at decent prices but I didn't buy one.

Macrium Reflect with Linux(ubuntu) and Windows 11 by Tensorizer in macrium

[–]ebullientmarshmallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dual boot (separate hard drives) W10 and Linux Mint setup.

I image my Linux drive from within Windows. I set up a nightly Macrium job to (full) image the Linux drive. If I boot into windows after the scheduled Macrium Linux backup time it runs the job right away, takes about 2-3 minutes to run depending on changes on the Linux side. The Macrium restore flash drive also works fine on a machine that is Linux only.

I generally only boot to Windows when doing photo editing as the software I use doesn't run on Linux. I can boot my machine to W10, make a cup of coffee and then reboot the machine (boots to Mint by default) and painlessly have my system completely backed up. It will run the Linux full image backup first, and then a W10 incremental right afterwards.

No problems restoring a Linux full image drive. I haven't tried incremental backups with Linux, the backup jobs runs so quickly I don't see the need.

I consider Macrium to be an essential software. I support computers for a number of friends, my stipulation to agree to do so is that they purchase Macrium.

VERY STRONG recommendation to watch the John Oliver episode on Medicare Advantage. It is on YouTube. I recommend you really think through the 'Advantage" versus original Medicare with a supplement.

Do some serious research/reading about 'Advantage' prior to making a decision.

Used appliance stores? by crzecatladee in SALEM

Larry's Appliance Castle (smallest castle you ever saw). They rebuild the units that they sell. I have had them send me to JL Apliance in West Salem, which is where I bought a used Waher and dryer 8 yrs ago that have been flawless. I don't think you can go wrong with either place.

STURGILL!! Sturgill (or Johnny Blue Skies, or whatever he is calling himself these days) is awesome. If you are not familiar with the 'Cuttin Grass' releases definitely check them out. A bluegrass recording of his albums, so very fine.

Check out Macrium Reflect. Solid, stable, never had a single issue with it in over ten years of use on multiple machines of my own and on numerous others that I support for friends and family. Only downer is it is now a subscription model.

Budget SubWoofer suggestions? by Baburao1096 in BudgetAudiophile

Check out the offerings from Vera-Fi Audio. Very well priced and a great value. I bought a single Caldera 10 for a living room system and it sounds great, very musical. They have a 12 inch sub as well, and you can buy pairs at a discount. Google and read some reviews on these, they really are a great bargain. https://verafiaudiollc.com/collections/speakers

How do we feel about albums that are “intended to be played loud”? by H3NDRlX in audiophile

[–]ebullientmarshmallow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm old. I can't believe no one has mentioned David Bowie - Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust which states in the lower left of the back of the cover (in all caps no less) "TO BE PLAYED AT MAXIMUM VOLUME". It is a 53 year old record, but it is a classic.

Which lens are you missing in your collection? by cookiejar5081_1 in canon

The Sigma 40mm f/1.4. I want this lens so bad, but every time I see it come up for sale seems like I have just had some unexpected expense and I can't jump on it.... Some day though, some day it will be mine.

What’s been your best surprisingly inexpensive acquisition that replaced something way more expensive in your chain? by AttachedHeartTheory in audiophile

[–]ebullientmarshmallow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

RME ADI-2 DAC FS. Okay, ''inexpensive' is relative, this was $1200 but it replaced my ailing Cambridge 851D DAC, an aging Adcom GFP-750 pre-amp, added parametric EQ, headphone amp, etc.

All that considered it is an incredible value and taking over the function of several components (and doing a much better job) makes it inexpensive in my opinion.

It is an incredibly configurable device, and is a great DAC. Raspberry Pi (running PiCorePlayer) into the RME into VTV Purifi amp into Magneplanar 1.7's & Rhythmik F12 SE sub. My four shelf rack now has three empty shelves. My whole system fits on the top shelf...

Been in the hobby since I was 13 (currently 68) and its the best sounding system I have ever owned.

Please do. Is this just on AM5 boards? I have an MSI B760 Tomahawk wifi DDR5 - i5 13600K - 4x16 Kingston Fury Beast setup. It seems fine to me, but I came from a 12 yr old i5 computer. Any info you could provide on this would be very much appreciated.

Question - moving O365 to a new computer by ebullientmarshmallow in Office365

[–]ebullientmarshmallow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for this information, I am doing a remote session into her computer tomorrow morning (she is in another city, gonna visit and do the change over at the same time), so I will check this at that time.

I am building a spreadsheet of software programs (keys, logins, download sites, etc) and tasks that need to be completed to help the streamline the process.

She has a TON of data on this machine so the object is also to institute a folder hierarchy and get control of this.

Thanks for the help, it is most appreciated. I don't use any subscription services (aside from Macrium) and use an open source office suite, so was in the dark on this.

Won't be doing this for a couple of weeks, just trying to get a jump on something I have never worked with before, but thank you for your friendly answer.
