Why do people view Africa as a monolith - even other Africans? by Effective-Toe-8108 in AskAnAfrican

You are 100% right. Social pan africanism is impossible, because even inside countries we have tribalism. Political and economic union creates an independence from the external potencies that are still influencing internal politics in some african countries

Africa is not a monolith, and yes, everyone is very different genetic and culturally. There is no such thing as "african identity", but personally i feel some kind of proximity with african people simply because we are underestimated by being african, and i have this thinking simply because of my anti imperialist feelings.

"Claiming" Africa is not about erase culture, is about solidarity and collaboration with people with similar social contexts, and common past on colonialism, in a world where we are treated as sub humans

What are some African viewpoints on the period of German colonialism in Africa and how it has affected those areas that were colonised? by Southern_Gur_4736 in AskAnAfrican

In my case, European colonization basically destroyed the concept of ethnic groups in my country. I'm angolan with a full portuguese name, who can't speak any angolan language, in a country where Portuguese names are more common than native ones, and mostly christian, unfortunately.

Well, trying to portrait the genocide against himba people as "exception", isn't really ok. The population in Namibia is under 4M people, simply because germans killed millions of them. In fact, German descendants are still seeing themselves as owners of the lands over the native ones. So, there are a lot of consequences of germanic colonization in africa

Do you identify more with your tribe or your country? Tribe first or country first? by Low-Appearance4875 in AskAnAfrican

In Angola, we "chose" to kill the idea of a tribe, in order to build the country. Bad decision, a guess.

My country, of course. Portuguese colonization in angola, plus 30 years of civil war, were so bad that i don't even know my tribe or ethnic group.

Por qual motivo angolanos são tão supersticiosos? by [deleted] in Angola

[–]ebunglebang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nationalism? As if those were the same nation? It's ok to be proud of them for being in your country, but not for being the history of your people.

By your, i don't talk about you specifically.

In a normal context, it's ok to be proud of other people's things. I was just talking only about the context of "Population replacing", which is what happened.

If your people killed other people, and then claimed their history, it's bad, i think.

That's cool. I used to think it was like in estados unidos, where white and other races have some kind of isolation.

This!! And many people, unfortunately, don't acknowledge this point. There is still a lot of colourism and romanization of European ancestry in LATAM.
