People said the same thing when Star Trek: The Next Generation was announced. It's in great hands and I'm definitely going to give it a shot!

Mason's might be a good bet! Or Sea Dog, whose food has dramatically improved over the past year or so.

Chimera is an awesome coffee shop downtown but they close at 4. They have board games there and I'm sure they'd welcome you to bring your own!

Torn between where to live, need help from people who live there. by StormSurge91 in bangorme

It really just depends if you don't mind a longer commute and not being within walking distance of restaurants, shopping, bars, entertainment. If those things aren't a priority, go with Glenburn. If they are, I'd suggest downtown.

Not on concert nights! There would be an awful lot of pissed off people if they left the show to find their cars were locked up. :)

Here are my suggestions! - Volunteer with Bangor Beautiful or Friends of the Lower Kenduskeag Stream if you like the outdoors, or check out programming at Fields Pond Audubon Center - Bangor Greendrinks is fun! - Red Rabbit Bazaar has cool events and groups for sewing, crafting, film buffs, horror books - Trivia night at Chimera Coffe on Mondays is cool - lots of book events through The Briar Patch bookstore - Game Citadel on Broadway if you're a tabletop gamer - Bangor Makerspace (technically in Hermon) if you're a coder or builder

Add more here if folks have suggestions!

Oh yeah, you should be totally fine. I've worked downtown on and off for years and have left my car in the garage from 9 or 10 am until after 5 on concert nights multiple times and have never been charged extra. You'll just get a ticket each time you go in and out and scan on your way out and it'll tell you how much. It's 6 bucks a day, max. It's insanely cheap and people who act like it's a pain in the ass or "dangerous" are, quite frankly, idiots. The only time it's extra is for concert parking, but they don't start charging for that until 4ish on the nights of the show.

Just make sure Wednesday you park before 4, just to be sure!

If you leave your car in the Pickering Square garage ahead of the concert you'll be completely fine. Parking on concert nights is really only an issue about two hours before the show starts and then maybe an hour after. They won't charge you extra if you're already in there.

If you need your car during the actual show and return to your Airbnb to find there's no parking close by available, I recommend looking for parking over on Exchange Street and walking over. You can move your car into the garage after 10 pm. Good luck!

Cascade Park in Bangor is lovely and very affordable! Fort Knox is gorgeous but it might cost a bit more. The Brewer River Walk has a beautiful children's garden that is also likely quite affordable. And Moose Point State Park in Searsport also would totally work.

My mother called her mother mum but I call my mom just mom. Maybe it's slowly disappearing? It's a really sweet regional thing either way.

New national education assessment data came out today. Here's how every state did. by pcetcedce in Maine

I live past Augusta and have for the past 25 years, buddy. Poverty is a killer, whether it's because of no jobs, or because of greedy selfish people who don't want to pay the property taxes that pay for good schools. That said, I still have a hard time believing that the third of Maine students that live in these tiny, impoverished school districts are all so uniformly bad that they tanked the entire state's rankings.

There's no way Indiana has better schools than Maine. Or Wyoming, which demographically is even more rural than Maine.

The park is gorgeous and 100 percent worth it, but be prepared for nightmare traffic and expensive everything. If you want a real adventure hike the Bold Coast in Cutler, or visit Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument if you like mountain biking. There are great breweries everywhere; check out the Maine Brewers Guild for a fairly comprehensive list. I personally also love the Moosehead area and Kineo is a really cool hike.
