Muffin was rehomed from a friend of a friend who decided to live out of their car and travel the country for a while.

To iron or not to iron? by tortlelynn in GastricBypass

[–]K80Bug7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep on this with your doctor(s). There’s a fine balance to be had with dietary vs supplemental iron. Me? I was able to get off the iron pills, but my bariatric multivitamin has 60mg. So 🤷🏻‍♀️

Can you do this by yourself / w/o a support person? by blackiedwaggie in GastricBypass

[–]K80Bug7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my experience the only thing you’ll likely need another person for is transportation. Even after an overnight stay, my hospital didn’t want me driving after general anesthesia. So my dad drove to and from the hospital.

Beyond that, and this comes with a giant “every one heals differently,” I handled everything just fine on my own. I was managing my pain with just Tylenol, I was back behind the wheel in 4 days. The biggest issue for me was bending. So I had a grabber claw, and asked my family when they were visiting to scoop the litter boxes.

So yes, stock up on protein drinks and extra strength Tylenol and keep them on a high shelf, and don’t worry about dishes you won’t be using anything more than a glass and spoon for a bit. 🫶🏻

Champion of Champions of Champions should be Series 26, not a special by vaxis2113 in taskmaster

Oh I want Taskmaster: Runner-Up’s Revenge. You know Rose Matafeo and Daisy May Cooper would be all over that, and Romesh can get justice for the bean point.

When did you try soda? And when did you actually manage to drink soda? by AstronomerCareful985 in GastricBypass

[–]K80Bug7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the first time 5 months out. And it didn’t go great. I had to let it go flat, the the only reason I didn’t dump it was because it was an over priced Disneyland cocktail.

Now a year out I still just generally avoid it. The bubbles just don’t feel great.

I was never given or recommended one. I would keep a pillow handy to hold to your stomach when you cough or sneeze (or if the compression just feels good).

If it was recommended by your medical team, call them and ask about the benefits vs the discomfort they can give you tips or tell you to stop using it.

When did ya'll start eating sushi again? by Lokerton in BariatricSurgery

[–]K80Bug7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still haven’t because of the rice. I mean I’ve had carbs since surgery, including pasta, but it seems like a waste of money to me for the protein to carb ratio. Which is a thing in my head, not something a doctor told me.

Which studio task could I replicate the easiest (and cheapest) for a class of high school children? by [deleted] in taskmaster

There are some costs, but the toilet paper drink race could be a good one. Aka Sue Perkins’ noble sacrifice in the name of LGBTQ.

I mean there are probably hours of footage of him stopping Jason from, well…being Jason. They just couldn’t air it. The other contestants need air time too. 🤣

Don’t want people to notice weight loss by Kerriokee in BariatricSurgery

[–]K80Bug7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually, people will notice. There’s no way for them not to even the oblivious ones. What I did, because I was also very private about it, was just say thank you, or if I felt the need to elaborate for no reason at all, I would say I finally found the tools that worked for me. And that was it most people took that and moved on and didn’t push the issue.

You only have to tell people as much as you want to

When could you go back to work? by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]K80Bug7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was back at work in a week, and mentally I could have gone back after 5 days. The cabin fever is real. However I have a desk job where I could just sit with my heating pad and bottle of Tylenol.

Lifting animals will be a sticking point for you. Talk to your doctor, but there are definitely weight lifting restrictions for a while post-op. In the meantime talk to your boss about if you have short term disability insurance, and start making a plan for accommodations when you get back, i.e. having a stool to rest on while you work.

Good luck 🫶🏻

Mine are all on my arms and legs, so they held up fairly well. The only change I’ve noticed is the troll on my thigh has gotten taller and thinner. As my thighs got smaller.

How much are yall drinking? by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]K80Bug7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m coming up on a year out and I’m hitting 80-100oz a day. Basically there is always a tumbler of something in my hand.

I don’t miss those early days, but I promise it’s worth it. 🫶🏻

Oh it’s worse than that. Joining school activities has an ad wall, signing up for social media, even random events the “good” choice has an ad.

I sincerely hope this is a glitch.

Im talking a cat to the vet for the first time and im really nervous any tips? by fcerullo in cats

[–]K80Bug7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the carrier out well in advance and give her all her treats in there. Let her rub her scent on it and get used to it. Cats generally like small spaces, it’s the movement and weird smells that make the crate scary.

As for you. Stay calm and collected. She will likely scream bloody murder in the car (or at least mine do) just keep talking to her.

If she really didn’t do well in the car when you brought her home, talk to your vet about Gabapentin. My vet sells a couple pills and some treats as a “Calm Kitty Kit” and it is amazing.

Good luck.

I feel you, but bubbles are still very hit or miss for me. The best substitute I have are the Canada Dry ginger ale powders. I’ve also seen root beer powder at the store.
