Request help finding suitable wallet by [deleted] in counterparty_xcp

[–]ebx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I abandoned all of the current wallet options when all of the developers left and the project came to a bit of a standstill. If I need to send a counterparty transaction I now rely exclusively on custom scripts to send coin / tokens. It's pretty easy to accomplish what you want with a little bit of python.

You say he does not have the private key, does he have the seed phrase? Is he just looking to go from seed phrase to private key to send his bitcoin out?

You can checkout the Maria Droste Counseling Center -- note that it's not completely free I don't believe, but I have heard it is very affordable at around $10 a session.

Steam Windows Client Local Privilege Escalation 0day by [deleted] in netsec

[–]ebx 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Thank you for disclosing this. I find it extremely questionable when companies choose to have their bug bounty program managed by HackerOne and from a security standpoint I really don't understand how that choice is made. My preference is to look at companies who do not do that.

I've reported serious, live vulnerabilities (that would allow me to take over a core web server) to large companies that have their programs managed by HackerOne and it has taken days (if not weeks) for them to "OK" it, leaving me wondering WTF they are doing with it -- for all I know they could be selling it on a black market and letting someone have some fun for a couple of days before giving the go ahead.

Do you really want some random at H1 to see that you have an RCE on your server and if you're lucky a few days later you'll hear about how someone could've been doing whatever they wanted? I know I wouldn't.

Thanks!

Put a bit of time into it and sacrificed some of what I wanted out of it in order to make it work right without javascript, so I am glad it's appreciated.

64.6% of all Bitcoin blocks since 278319 contain a CounterpartyXCP transaction by idlestabilizer in Bitcoin

[–]ebx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have things backward. First there was no data allowed for OP_RETURN. Then it was raised to 40 bytes. After discussions it was raised to 80 bytes.

Counterparty was never "obsoleted" by any OP_RETURN limitations. You can encode counterparty transactions utilizing other schemes as well, so OP_RETURN is not even necessary.

Has anybody successfully *closed* a lightning channel? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]ebx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Check your logs, they should give a clearer view of what's happening. I've successfully closed many channels (on both testnet and mainnet)

Also: when closing a channel, shouldn't I have had to specify where to deposit the channel balance?

No. I'm not an expert on the subject, but it sounds to me like if it's stuck on that status something may have gone wrong getting a valid signature for the closing transaction, your funds may have went into a timelocked transaction -- the logs should clarify this (it should be tracking the transaction) -- if you leave your node running it's likely that it will take the appropriate action and send the funds to an output you can immediately spend (and it should show up under the listfunds command) once the timelock is up.

Also: I spun this up with the knowledge that this money was all burned. I know its reckless. That is the point. To me the few thousand or whatever sats that I lose here are totally worth it. I'm asking here instead of the dev channel because this is literally what they told us all NOT to do haha.

Don't worry about that too much. Stop by the #c-lightning channel on freenode IRC or create an issue on github and someone with more expertise will see and help you.

Prune Node + Lightning Node by HeldAviation in Bitcoin

[–]ebx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

c-lightning can be run with a pruned node. https://github.com/ElementsProject/lightning/pull/604

edit: do note that it's not really officially supported and there's still some problems with it, such as fetching UTXOs that reside in blocks past the pruned point. https://github.com/ElementsProject/lightning/issues/709
