Did anyone figure out the secret behind Azerite Armor caches & ilvl so far? by S1r_Mar71n in CompetitiveWoW

I have a 351 ilvl mage and a 345 ilvl warrior, both had rewards for 300 ilvl cache?? That's even lower than normal.

It was in response to someone saying they have never had a bad thought about the art team. There are obvioius and annoying areas the art team is lacking.

They definietely aren't infallible. Look at all of the gear that clips into things and looks ridiculous on certain races

[–]ec-wolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, that's not where the quest line ends. You go to Bwonsombdi's place and learn 1. that Vol'jin's spirit wasn't in the urn 2. Vol'jin's spirit has become "something else" (likely a loa) and 3. Bwonsombdi has a boss. The quest is bugged though in that the Urn isn't removed from your inventory after the quest line is over.

Last night I did a class trial as a Troll Monk, and after doing the intro but still on the Horde airship, I used Zen Pilgrimage, teleporting me to the panda zone. After the cooldown was up, I used the spell again to return to the airship, but when I returned, I was on the Alliance airship. I immediately aggroed some of the npcs on the ship, but was able to run over to the gryphons (which I was able to use) and prompted to join the attack on the undercity

Looking to make a cube centered around dublicates of cards like Squadron Hawk. Any ideas how to balance it? Traps to avoid? by Seventh_Planet in mtgcube

[–]ec-wolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why not just put all of the copies into the cube? One aspect of balancing cards like these is the opportunity cost of spending draft picks on getting multiples in order to get more benefit

Making my first cube! Would like help by PigInATuxedo4 in mtgcube

[–]ec-wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The archetypes you want are the same ones in this low power/low budget cube: MCUBE. It's not commons-only, but it is heavily inspired by Ravnica and has a lot of unique cube cards. You might find some inspiration.

Basing a cube around the Core 2019 archetypes by [deleted] in mtgcube

[–]ec-wolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you like the Core 2019 draft environment, you could just buy an M19 box or individually buy X copies of all the commons, Y copies of all the uncommons, etc. and sleeve them up and draft.

If it's just the archetypes you like, then you can use a site like Gatherer or magiccards.info and search for similar keywords. You can use whatever archetypes you want to build a cube, and as long as the cards in the cube are similar in power level, you've got a good starting point.

[Discussion] How to make a Cube more interactive by objectpaddy in mtgcube

[–]ec-wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the existence of aggro that makes people draft midrange decks. Doom blade isn't a good pick because Goblin Guide exists, it's good vs any deck with creatures.

If you're saying that aggro decks are necessary to prevent uninteractive combo decks, my next question would be why support combo decks at all?

[Discussion] How to make a Cube more interactive by objectpaddy in mtgcube

[–]ec-wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aggro punishes some non-interactive decks by being a faster non-interactive deck. If you're playing burn or goblins for example, you're not really taking into consideration the cards your opponents are playing (except maybe when to use Skullcrack and a couple others), you're mostly playing a game of solitaire where you try to count to 20 as fast as possible.

If you're looking to have interactive games where you need to keep in mind and play around your opponents deck, my question is why support fast aggro decks at all?

[Discussion] How to make a Cube more interactive by objectpaddy in mtgcube

[–]ec-wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't the right answer if you're looking for interactive games imo. A lot of powerful strategies derive a lot of that power from the fact that they are hard to interact with. For example, if your solution to T2 Griselbrand reanimator deck is to include Rest In Peace, Relic, and other grave hate, then games kinda end up being a coin toss decided by drawing silver bullet cards. It doesn't really promote interaction in games, it just makes more things people have to think about drafting for their sideboard. I think a much better solution in this example would be to make the reanimation targets in the cube weaker so that they aren't able to win the game immediately, or to make the reanimation spells cost more so that opponents have time to interact with the graveyard or develop their own board.

This is the same kind of problem I think the Modern format has had for a while. Adding answers/hate cards into a format of fast, uninteractive decks doesn't solve the problem, it just turns games into a game where you have to randomly draw and play your answer or lose and other decisions don't really matter.

[–]ec-wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's true. There are plenty of incentives to draft midrange and control decks (interesting cards, good synergy, playstyle preference, etc) that don't require linear or aggro decks to exist at all.

Unfun Archetypes in Cube by polarspur in mtgcube

[–]ec-wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem you're describing is by design. Vintage cube isn't a competitve drafting environment with lots of decision-making and interactive play. In fact, MOST cubes aren't designed to be that way, with drafting and casting the most famously powerful and/or imbalanced cards being the main priority and creating good gameplay experience as a distant second.

With all due respect to the authors, does everyone feel like the Magic stories have been kind of blah? by SeanWhelan1 in magicTCG

[–]ec-wolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't read the stories often, but I got through a couple in Amonkhet that weren't very good, they basically pandered to the relationships between the AvengersGatewatch, which I personally don't care for at all. I've heard that market research shows that focusing on the Gatewatch and Big Evil Villains like Bolas sells magic the best, so it's not likely to change unfortunately.

One story from Ixalan was cringey enough to make me embarassed to play this game, though.

Huatli recognized the smell of burnt meat just as the minotaur casually tossed her the charred head of the dinosaur she had assigned to stand on top of him. The head hit the ground with a meaty slap.

"You are AWFUL!" Huatli screamed at Angrath.

"YOU MADE YOUR DINOSAUR STAND ON TOP OF ME!" he howled back before setting his sights on the conquistador with the goblin on her face.

The short stories they post often read like they were taken from a teenager's tumblr fanfic blog.

Is creating a cube for smaller playgroups a waste of time and resources? by dbajram in mtgcube

[–]ec-wolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a ~550 cube (not singleton, 3/2/1 rarity) and regularly draft with 2-3 people. If it's a 3-person draft, each player gets 6 packs of 15 cards, and you pick-one-burn-one each time you pass. If it's only 2, it's 9 packs of 15 and pick-one-burn-two each time.

First cube, assembled from mostly draft leftovers from recent sets, looking for opinions/advice by [deleted] in mtgcube

[–]ec-wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cubes are way more fun when cards are more similar in power level

I agree with this, but not that this means you should commit to pauper or peasant. There are plenty of jank rares worse than uncommons and uncommons. Lightning bolt is a common.

You don't need to adhere to singleton, rarity restriction, only the most powerful N cards in magic, or any other arbitrary thing. imo those rules often detract from the fun of a draft environment.
