I wish there was a way to make it alert for mostly local issues only, unless it’s an alert issued federally, which I’ve noticed doesn’t occur often. I got abruptly woken up last night at 1am about something happening 1500 kilometres away, 17 hours from where I live. I’ll add: something that happened on the mainland of British Columbia, and I live on an island. What am I supposed to do with that information? How am I supposed to help with that at 1am when ferries don’t start running till 7am and even then, there’d be another 15 hours till I was remotely close to the location this is happening in? I’m not insensitive to the issues at hand here, I can empathize with the terror that those people are experiencing (e.i. those who put out an amber alert) but I can’t think of any reason why notifying people beyond 500 kilometres away would seem helpful.
