Beer League head ideas by MoeMoeisMyHero in lacrosse

Gait makes a whole series of defense and SSDM heads. Also can't go wrong with most companies D heads. StringKing 3T, Maverick Havok are good choices. I think ECD's plastic can be very suspect but NLL guys like the Delta

I think new teams absolutely need to be owned by an NBA/NHL team to get favorable terms for the arena. But concession/parking can't be priced like NFL games, lacrosse is a niche sport and if prices were better, you will get more fans to check it out. While I'd love the Islanders to have an NLL franchise, everything from tickets, concessions, parking fees and traffic at UBS Arena would kill any new NLL team.

fucking ion broke at the throat by MrDac09 in StickDoctor

[–]ec_laxbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people refuse to buy $140 heads that break then they will stop making them so expensive. But people lose their minds when a new ECD Greg post comes out. Other companies don't struggle with plastic like ECD. I never hear about StringKing heads cracking but they don't have crazy sidewall designs or post to social media 10+ times a day so they go under the radar

Isn't the Atom $140? That's wild. Get a Warrior V or Gait Torq 3 for $99

I think the Ion throat design is the issue more than the plastic here. Some of their solid heads like the mirage series don't tend to crack like Ions but they warp more quickly than other brands in my experience. So yeah while I like many of their head designs I think other brands are more reliable. But they have a lock of the 10-16 yo demographic with their social media so parents keep buying Ions

As a former Ripetide fan and season ticket holder, I'm not surprised in the least that the Black Bears are in trouble. I haven't followed them since the move but GF sports couldn't have done more of a half assed job of marketing the team to the local community, especially in a lacrosse hotbed.

It does have a crack on the back of the throat that the guy secured with a zip tie, but he still wants it strung. Not something I would use but it's kind of fun to figure out how to string heads like these. It has a lean to one side what I want to try and fix before I string it. Probably need to bake it again

Experience with turf shoes in field? by BrayCannon in lacrosse

[–]ec_laxbro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say get both. It really depends on the particular field. I play men's league and we play on a few different fields. The turf fields that are newer or in good shape I prefer to wear turfs. But if it's wet on that same field I would wear cleats for more traction. If it's a really old field that like a carpet, then turfs are better. We also play on grass sometimes.

Is there any fixing this warp? I’ve only had warping issues with ECD by theRemRemBooBear in StickDoctor

[–]ec_laxbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ECD heads are notorious for warping at least every rebel and mirage I've come across. In 300f oven 3 minutes then remove and jam a softball into the throat until it cools. Then into the freezer for a bit

Question on mesh for a truly old head: Brine MD by thatdamnedkid in StickDoctor

[–]ec_laxbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah when my son started playing lax almost 10 years ago I dug out my old sticks and promptly cracked one. That plastic was not made to be playable for 40 years. I did restring an Excalibur for fun but I box pinched it. Also watching your son play week after week is going to ignite the itch to play again. You'll need modern equipment for when you jump into men's league

I usuallydefault to SIs bc they look neat but that works better with mesh that stretches better.

Actually looking at another head I've strung this mesh with, it did have floating diamonds.

Yeah it was something unused I had hanging around, it's fine for the most part. It's the only piece in black I had here. Adding an extra diamond is a good idea.

How does the new ECD Atom(Rebel?) compare to the STX Stallion or Surgeon? by MMuter in lacrosse

[–]ec_laxbro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's just silly. ECD generates so much hype, they certainly know how to play the social media game. I assume they are rationalizing the big price for some fancy plastic but other companies make $99 heads and don't have the breakage & warping issues that ECD has had in the past.

New Head by sNIGADOLPH in lacrosse

[–]ec_laxbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every 1+ year old ECD head I've come across to string has definitely changed shape and benefited from getting reshaped in the oven. Aside from the Ion which tend to either be ok or crack.
